It moves every single time... I have done the quest on at least 8 different characters and I have only found it in a same location twice... it's random all over the bottom of the lake.. just keep swimming... look near rocks, near the pier and even on the other side of the bridge.

The Horde can complete this quest also, although it is next to impossible to do it at the correct level because the gaurds will kill you.

I did this quest on my 60 warlock like 4 months ago, I had to kill one gaurd then talk to the boy, obtain the quest, then jumped into the water to find it.

Easy quest to miss if your a horde char. trying to complete every quest in the game.

People... please, express clearly. You talk to the boy on the dock... now, look west. See that other dock? Yes, that one... now, go under it. It is somewhere within spitting distance from here. Behind rocks, or out in the open.

Her necklace is always close to her but you shouldn't go over the bridge to the left of her it's never that far away... her necklace is usually under a rock or under a log... my friend found it under a log, when i told him it was under a rock.. he punched me after that =p so you guys have to remember it has different (spawn) places....

While your getting Hillary's necklace, you can also grab Olsen's Tool chest, of the Lost Tools Quest. He is by the bridge (town side). I found Hillary's Necklace in a mound of Dirt just East of the bridge. I found the Tool Chest a little farther east where the blue area of the map starts. It's laying in open view with Murlocks patrolling.

To find mine, I jumped in the water, and swam left, passed the stone bridge, to the other dock. The necklace is in a glinting pile of mud. For me, it spawned behind a broken boat. On my way back to take a picture of where it was, I saw the next spawn next to a big rock, only a couple feet away.

As people have already said, the location to this necklace changes. The first two times I ran this quest it was near the pile of debris next to the middle support of the bridge. The third time I ran this quest, it was in an entirely different location:

-From the dock with hilary, look to the west and you'll see a smaller dock, go onto that. Look across the lake (and slightly to the right) and you'll see a large outcropping of rock, that's where it was on my third run of this quest.

It's definitely a random spawn, just poke around the rocks and underwater debris, it just loooks like a small pile of dirt, but it stands out easily when you cursor over it.

Here is a screen shot. If you are standing by the kids. Go to the other side of the stone bridge to the broken dock. Jump off the front. There is a log and there is a sunk boat. I found it in both places.

I found mine at 36,54 -- if you dont have a mod that provides coordinates, use these directions (taken from an above post)

"You jump in the water where the kids are, swim under the bridge to the other dock on the other side of the big stone bridge, and its under a rock in a mudpile, the necklace is hidden in the mudpile."

THERE IS NO CONSTANT LOCATION. The pile of Glinting Mud apparently spawns randomly. Mine was all the way at the western tip of the lake. The easiest way to do this quest if you can't turn into a seal is to skim the top of the lake (so as to keep breathing) and look for Glinting Mud next to all the rocks on the bottom of the lake. It is a darkly colored mound that is much larger to all the little white things on the bottom. The most important thing to remember is just because someone posted their coordinates doesn't mean they will be true for you.

I found it east under the main bridge under the right hads side span when facing east. It was a pile of black goo near a log

I think the mud moves around. I found it on the dock directly to the west of the dock where hillary is standing. I've had friends say they've found it there or further west right next to a rock. The mud pile isn't that hard to find if it is there you should be able to find it.

Really easy and also pick up "The Lost Tools" since they're both in the lake. It can be picked up at 15.

Ya, just like everyone has said, you'll find the necklace easily in a pile of glinting mud that is on the bottom of the lake, and it will spawn in various places. If there are others doing the quest, it might take awhile because it'll have to respawn, and more than likely spawn in a different place each time. I found my pile of glinting mud directly under the dock where the two boys, Roger and Jamin, are fishing. Roger and Jamin are just down from where Hilary stands on the dock. This location is west of the bridge. But as said, the mud pile can spawn pretty much anywhere in that general location.

I know this is a really silly question: but how do I swim underwater? I seem to just gracefully glint about the surface, able to go in any direction .

I did this quest in like 1 minute, as a level 15 rogue.. I just jumped into the water, saw that piece of glinting mud to my right, "opened" it, and voilá! 1350 xp @ 15

I have done this quest twice with 2 different characters and found it in 2 different places. Once on the east side of the bridge by the log and once on the west side by the rubble.

With the help from here it was about 5 minutes as a lvl 16 Warlock. It apparently has multiple spawn locations. I found it at 36,54 using Cosmos. Look for a dark patch of mud probably near a rock or log. The far eastern location I found it in put me uncomortably close to a lvl 19 murloc swimmer but he didn't aggro. Breathe Underwater is a nice warlock spell that gives you ten minutes underwater. If your not one find a friendly warlock to cast it on you. Do the tool quest at the same time and you only get wet once.

I believe evrytime the is looted, it moves. I found it next to the log underwater, under the bridge. After looting, it vanishes. And then I turn around and it is behind me next to the lion underwater.

This quest is intermittently broken - has been since beta. It always works properly after a server reset, but something happens to break it over time - possibly someone takes it and doesn't finish it. If the mud is not over next to the rocks by the bridge it should respawn in about 1-2 minutes. If it doesn't, come back some other time after a server reset.

Swim around the bottom of the lake near Hilary. Look for a blackish mound on the bottom named "Glinting Mud" or some such thing. Open it like a chest and inside you'll find the necklace.

I found the mud right beneath the dock where Hilary is standing.

The mud must appear at random locations in the lake. Contrary to the recommendation look for it west by a rock, or right under the dock... I actually found it next to a log under the bridge.

i did it with my 13 mage and got 1350 xp as well.. probably the highest you can get. i did level at the same time but it took about 15 mins for the necklace to respawn. so as soon as i saw it, i went straight for it. and yea, it was right underneath hilary where the rock is. i've never seen it further west of the bridge so it's possibly the easiest 1350xp i've ever made.

Since the descriptive of what to look for is way down the bottom now ( excuse the pun) I reposted up here.
When you are swimming around you need to look, under water, for a med sized dark or black mole hill looking thing. Mouse over it and it'll say glinting mud.
Swim down, right click when the cog wheel turns gold and wait till it opens up like a chest.
Watch your air !

Just FYI the spot that you get the necklace is not the same every time, its random placement.

Just look for Glinting Mud in the water near the dock by Hilary.

You don't need to travel to the east past the bridge.

Just like to add that while it is marked alliance, i did this quest as an undead rogue.

What was a big and bad member of the Horde doing in an alliance town on the docks mingling with small children? Heh... Well us undead you know.... We are cannibals....

I found it next to a log at 24,54 (cosmos).

Judging from the other posts, it appears to spawn in a variety of locations, so don't give up just because you don't find it at one of those listed.

It is mostly found on the west side of the bridge, often near a log or rock. It looks like a dark mound called "Glinting Mud".

The mud is not small! It looks big almost like a small boulder. Smooth and roundish and dark black like another user stated. NOT gleaming!

To complete this quest you should dive into the lake and search for Glinting Mud on the lake bed. This will contain Hilary's Necklace. You can turn down the Ground Clutter graphics setting to 1 to make the Glinting Mud easier to spot at a distance.

To complete the quest you need to retrieve Hilary's Necklace from the bottom of Lake Everstill.
Hilary's Necklace has multiple spots to spawn, so you may need to check some before you locate the necklace.
You need to find Glinting Mud piles and interact to it to retreive Hilary's Necklace and then bring it back to Hilary.
