You'll need to enter the keep on Fenris Isle and get to the roof. Enter through the entrance and take the following path: left->right->right->go up the stairs->left->left->go up the stairs. If you die making your way up, head right to the roof before ressing and you can bypass the gnolls. Once you reach the roof, cross it and it's in the tower - hovering your mouse over the towers on the roof will light up "Dusty Shelf".

There is an easier way to complete this quest. Just run inside the barracks, you will die since there are too many enemies there. Take your ghost up stairs as the person above me has mentioned. Locate the Dusty Shelf while still in ghost mode. Get out of the tower and rez where no enemies can see you (outside the tower). The shelf is accessible from OUTSIDE the wall (it is a bug). Just move your mouse curser on the wall from outside the tower until "Dusty Shelf" appears. You can easily put the stuff on the shelf without encountering any enemies.

The bug i believe has been fixed you cant finish this quest from the out side. I recommend going to roof then find the SW tower clear the enemy inside then locate bookcase which is on the left side of entrance.

I did not find the above directions to be correct. You need the SW tower, not the SE one. From the entrance, turn right, left, left, right and go upstairs, right, right, upstairs, and cross the passage to the SW tower. The niche is in the bookshelf to the left of the entrance.

I went in left,right and then left up the stairs and outside, i was on the SE so I jumped on the roof and walked over to the SW..

It's on a dusty shelf, not a typical bookshelf as I had expected. Stuck back in a corner on top of one of the towers.

I was killed many times when I tried to finish this quest at 17. At least I died almost in the center of 1'st floor. Then I walked up on the roof like a spirit and resurrect there. Now all I need to kill 3 mobs to complete this quest :)

Just let yourself die next to the base of the south west tower - can be outside, no problem. Then - as a ghost, go upstairs untill you find the niche (three shelves). Get in to the rooftop between the two towers (the south west and south east) and - on the farthest corner, where the guards do not spot you - get ressurrected. Then - it�s easy - just get the first guard, get the second and go for the shelves. The quest it�s yours!

The shelf is hard to find but with a little exploration it is possible. Enter the keep and fight your way to the back where the stairs lead up to the second floor. Turn left immediately after going up the stairs, go the the hallway in front of you, kill any mobs near you, and turn left again. In front of you should be a doorway with maybe one or two mobs in there as well. Kill the mobs and enter the room. You are now in the North East tower. There should be a set of stairs in the room follow them up to the top killing any mobs you come in contact with. When the stairs end exit the tower through the doorway and you will now be on the roof. Cross the roof to the other side (west) and kill any mobs near the enterance to the South West tower. Enter the tower through the doorway, again killing any mobs, and directly to the left of the doorway (as you enter it) is the dusty shelf. Like I said kinda tricky but with some exploration you can do it.

As a ghost, enlarge your minimap and find your way up to the southwest tower. The green shelves are at the very top of the tower being guarded by one mob next to the shelves and another one walking up and down the stairs. Don't resurect yet. Go onto the bridge that connects the two s.west, and s. east towers and hop onto the roof that connects the south towers to the north towers. If you died at street level at the top of the stairs before you entered the building, you should be able to res by standing on top of the roof (or well, you can res anywhere but the roof is the safest cuz there's no mobs on there). Once you res, heal, buff, kill the one mob that's walking around, and kill the one that's guarding the shelves. open the shelves and you're done.

Ghost trick DOES work, but make sure you look around in deep and exacting detail. You'll easily find yourself surrounded by three bad guys, not one.

The ghost thing does work. It took me about twenty minutes to find the shelf, but I would've given up if I didn't run around dead looking for it. I also had problems killing the two mobs once I was in the room with the shelf (the one guarding it and the one walking around outside). I found out that if you ressurect outside on the roof, you don't have to worry about mobs attacking you. Once my health and mana was full and I had my pet, I killed the one outside and the one in the room. This quest takes time and patience and lots of exploring while you are dead. I'm a 22 Warlock and I almost gave up on this quest.

I did it in party lvl 17 priest and party member lvl 17 warlock, was preaty easy. Just turn left on first floor, and left again to stares, on roof go to oposit tower and ull find shelve. U fight 2 mobs max in 1 fight, and u get some preaty nice stuff for lover lvls.

Soloed this at 26 (I haven't been questing much... so I'm doing all the low lvl ones.)

It's at top of the keep. Get up on top where the guard walk is, and go to the south west tower. In there, by the stairs going down, there will be a shelf, if it's not there, wait for it to spawn. That ends your quest, but starts another.

Died outside the building, after not reading the quest properly. Ran to the top of the Keep, looked around at the mobs and the patterns they walked, then waited and resurrected while walking backwards on the roof (the peak of it). Healed / Manaed up, then finished quest.

The first time I tried soloing this as lvl 18 warlock, I got beat down. Then, they beat my corpse unmercifully.

Fortunately, a lvl 60 warlock came along farming for wool (good place to do it!) and escorted me upstairs. w00t.

Solod this as a lvl 15 mage, did the ghost trick by dying at the steps and ressing on the roof. Then just frostbolt+fireball+fireblast the guy as hes coming towards, nova, run to the other side of the roof and repeat. Do it for both guys, grab the book, and slowfall off the roof out over the walls.

Like someone said above, it's in the southwest tower. Just die and res on the roof, kill the guard on the wlakway, kill the guard in the SW tower, and do the gear thing on the shelf. Once you find the top of the SW tower you can't miss the shelf.

If your finding it hard just die at the bottom of the keep then res on the roof (after running through the keep as a ghost. Then kill the guard patroling the walkway that leads to the south west tower, then you can access the shelves through the wall from the roof without any need to kill the guard standing next to it =)

Soloed as a lvl 17 rogue, with no problems. Went to one of the towers in stealth mode, i had to kill the mobs on the stairs, and at the top of the tower. The quest says it's in the tower at southwest - and it was there, a bookshelf without books. was really easy...

i might be a bad rogue...

but i found it HARD as a lvl 17 rogue....i was on like 10 health mx when i killed the lvl 19 gaurds.

died atleast 3 times against the guards

Just a small tip. Once you make it to the roof and you find yourself in the wrong tower you can climb/jump onto the roof and goto the other side.

I did this last night. Had a bugger of a time getting up the stairs and taking the wrong turn,a nd we always seemed to come out on the wrong side :). So I jumped on the roof and went to the SW corner, found the little green bookshelf

Enter through the entrance
RUN LIKE CRAZY in below direction
left->right->right->go up the stairs->left->left
and hopefully die somewhere around there. When in a ghost form, keep following the path and find a rooftop- do some exploring.

YOU WILL NEED TO GET ON IT AND CROSS TO THE OTHER SIDE. There is only one mob pat on the other side of the roof top- kill it- and then kill one more near the shelf, which is placed to the left side.

You can access the shelf without aggroing from outside the tower, through the wall beside the door, if you turn your camera angle right.

To find the shelf, enter the keep on fenris isle (middle of the lake between The Sepulcher and Undercity, go to the North-Eastern Tower and go up. Once you reach the top, go over the roof to the South-Western Tower. There you'll find the Dusty Shelf.

The bookshelf is in the top portion of the southwestern tower (coord 65,24). The place is full of lvl 19-20 mobs, so be prepared. Find staircase to second floor near the center of the keep. Make 2 lefts and find the stairs to the roof down the hall. Walk across the roof arch toward southwestern tower. Green bookshelf inside!

There is a way to get to the dusty self through the wall behind it and never aggro the mob.

Do the "Die by the wall" trick to get to the top of the roof. Then goto the wall on the southwest corner. When you're next to the wall your cursor will turn color and complete the quest. After, hearth out and go on your way.

No need to kill anything and can be done by almost any level.

Just thot it was funny cuz I'm alliance and was just checking out what was in Fenris Keep when, lo & behold, a talking head was part of the loot! rofl

Only for the hordies but interesting to see.

I did this quest, and its pretty hard for anyone 17 or under... once you have finished it, you barely get any XP, and no items that you would care for (unless you are an enchanter) are gained... waste of time you would get more done if you just grinded.

Hmm this quest isn't to hard.. I did it with a 16 mage alone. Also there is a rare silver dragon spawn in one of the buildings that is a lvl 22 that was mistaken for a 22 elite. And there is a 24 elite somewhere in the main building. Anyways yeah this quest works best with the "Ghost Trick"

The XP and reputation points for finding the shelf are not that great, but I think we got 1700 XP and more reputation points for the next quest in the chain, which was just taking the book to a guy in the Undercity.

The gnolls were worth killing for a couple level 20s: not bad XP, and we got some fabric and I think we got a couple green items in the course of fighting in and back out.

Level 15 Undead warlock, got killed down stairs in the tower, i resurected my self on the roof, the "complete the quest trough the wall" thing did not work so i completed the quest when my pet had the aggro.

I did it at lvl 18-19 warlock... did the ghost thing and then killed mob walkin between the towers and as my pet help agro with the twi in the tower completed the quest and then just died... rezed outside the spelchur and flew ta UC... not too hard, and its a wand u get not a book...

Dont bother trying to grab the bookshelf from the other side of the wall, Blizz fixed it.
Soloed as Lvl 16 Rogue, died at bottom of stairs then rezzed on roof took care of Lvl 19 & 18 fairly easily went to bookshelf and voila !
Dont know why I couldn't do this at Lvl 15 but I couldn't :P

At level 21, I walked to the top of the tower, I killed a few of the guards (just waited for the roamers to roam past).

I tried to click the table from outside, it didn't work so I just killed the guard inside and finished the quest there...

At any rate, just wanted folks to know as a rogue it was very easy to do...

I cleared it solo with my lvl 16 warlock.........which actually was kinda easy.....OK F*CKING EASY!

This is how I did it...(probably the best way to do this)

> First run (sprint with roque is best) in without paying attention to the mobs..
Then u need to die in the exact middle of the keep...
Run back to your corpse and take all the stairs up...
when u are on the top of the keep, u must rest. on the middle of the roof..(when done this correctly u will be able to do this without problem)
Stay in the middle untill your fully health and mana/energy....
when u have a pet that can tank u need to send it to the guy walking on between
the towers...
Ones he is dead u must send him to the guy in the southwestern tower...
Then u can do 2 things:

-While your pet is killing the mob u need to take the Dusty Shelf and get the hell outa there...
-Kill the guy in the tower and dont pull any other mobs..when done u can take the Dusty Shelf...

Hope u all find this helpfull (cuz I dont think u will find a better way xD)...GOOD LUCK!

No need to kill anything...

Die inside the keep anywhere near the front, run back and run to the very top.

Hop onto the roof, and res near the SW tower on the roof next to the wall so the wondering mob can't see you. hover your mouse around the wall till you see the gold icon and open it through the wall... poof all done

The next portion of the quest asks you to take his remains in the keep in an alcove behind a dusty shelf. It is one the third floor sw tower of the keep itself. You need to get to second floor and go upstairs through the NW 3rd floor tower to get to it though.

Be careful of the adds and named up there.

As mentioned, I found this pretty easy if you do not mind another death. I died right in the entry of the keep then walked up to the roof in ghost form and respawned in the center of the roof. I then killed the guy on the ramparts, the guy in the tower and got the wand. Then, I just jumped off the roof and ran for the gate. I died right at the gate but you might be luckier. Anyway, soloed with my level 19 undead warlock.

this one was easy....i died directly behind the keep, took my ghost to the roof and spawned there, only had to fight 2 mobs to get to the shelf

The bookcase is on the very top floor, I mean the battlements, in the south west corner. If you die in the south west ground floor room, you can ress on the roof and it's easier. Guarded by level 19 mobs.

The alcove is in the southwestern tower of the keep, behind a dusty shelf.
