I got the Sacred Frostsaber Meat (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=12733) from a 58 Frostsaber Huntress near the summoning stone (found at 49,9). I think any type of Frostsaber can drop it, though.

She fears, as well as does a bleed effect. Not too hard though, just be careful, because she summons an add of equal power (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/npc=10741) after you've weakened her some. Killing Shy-Rotam completes the quest though, so you can vanish / run / FD / etc at that point.

To help out with the add you should have a hunter around lay a frost trap so that Shy-Rotam's mate does not tear you apart. Most hunters will gladly accompany you as the mate makes a nice pet since it is pretty rare pet.

Tried this with two shamans, me with a 60 restoration-spec shaman and my brother with a 59 elemental-spec. We did ok starting off, though we did pull an add thanks to Shy-Rotam's fear. It seemed like she used that every 15 seconds :) Anyways, once she hits about 50% health, she summons her mate, also a level 60 elite. This is where we wiped.

I scoured the web for strategies, and read a suggestion that said hunters could start the fight, then kite her back to Everlook and have the guards there help kill her. Taking that into account, we tried again. This time, I tried kiting her with Frost Shock. It was incredibly successful.

Frost Shock slows the target for eight seconds, but only has a cooldown of six seconds. What I did was cast Frost Shock to start off the fight, then ran towards the road. If you use this strategy, note that you'll want to clear the frostsabers from the road beforehand. I simply ran down the road, turning to cast Frost Shock whenever it's cooldown finished. It's worth noting that at this point, I had about 5400 max mana, as well as the Elemental talents that increase Shock damage and decrease Shock mana cost. Even with all that I still had to use a superior mana potion a ways down the road. I was able to stay way ahead of Shy-Rotam, and well out of range of her fear. Not only that, but once she got down to 50% health, she called for her mate, who did not appear. My guess is that he spawns back at Shy-Rotam Rock. I was so far off that he either never caught up or did not give chase. Regardless, he was not a factor, and once Shy-Rotam got to around 10%, I dropped a Tremor Totem (to break Fear) and closed to finish the fight with melee and Earth Shock.

My brother only used one Frost Shock, and that was at my suggestion, as a way for me to save a little mana on the road. There was also a level 57 Alliance hunter who saw us and fired on Shy-Rotam a few times, but his damage was fairly small, mainly Concussive Shot (I assume he was trying to avoid pulling aggro). After killing her, I still had about 800 mana and about 70% health. The removal of her mate was the dealmaker here, so I recommend kiting her down the road if you can.

Horrible drop rate on the Sacred Meat. I was farming Frostsabers all over that area for 45 minutes without it dropping. I dropped the quest, too frusterating.

Successfully completed this quest series with a 53 Troll Priest, 55 Undead Warlock, and 57 Blood Elf Mage.

The Sacred Meat took about 15 kills before dropping.

When I did it, we pulled her to the other end of the frozen pond. This far away from her cave her mate cannot hear her call. So we killed her and not her add. (very easy this way)
Tremor totems help a lot. (fyi)

I did it (with help of a 64 lock) at 57. Took her down real quick. She didn't summon her friend... oddly. We didn't go more than 20 yards from where she's summoned

Solo'd, warlock level 60. Cheers for the tip about taking her out to the lake, her mate didn't spawn for me either. Plenty of chain fear and dots did the trick.

Just did this as a 57 fury warrior with 55 holy / disc priest. Pull Shy back from her spawn point out onto the frozen pond opposite the rock and her mate won't add.

I used a Mechanical Yeti charge to help with the DPS.

ooo and the coordinates where to summon the cat is 49,10 around that on a stone but you need sacred meat from 1 of the tigers around that first doesnt takes long for that to drop

The proper way to do this quest:
1)Find a decent group
2)go to 49,10
3)Keep killing Frostsaber Huntresse's and Frostsaber Pride Watcher's until one of them drops the Sacred Frostsaber Meat(https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=17123/monster-sword-horde-troll). The drop rate is actually low: 1.8 and 1.9%
4)The one who looted the meat should place it at the stone(49,10)
5)Shy-rotam and his add will appear, kill them
6)Go to Everlook and finish the quest.

The drop rate isnt that low cus ppl cant get the meat item if they arent on the quest, but they can still kill tigers, so the drop rate is more like 5-7%. just that yu know and doesnt think its VERY rare :P

If you pull Shy-Rotam out into the frozen lake that's in front of the pillar, the second elite won't spawn when she calls for him. Makes this fight half as long/hard.

Did it with a 57 Lock and a 61 priest. Just keep her feared the entire time.

The name of the meat is 'Sacred Frostsaber Meat'.

It apperently drops from any Frostsaber, not specifically the blue ones, because we got it off a random drop.

We did it with just me(Druid), a rogue and a priest. Kinda easy ^^

got meat droppped on 5th frossaber, summoned, pulled to the lake, chain fear, dots, shadowbolts... 2 minutes and she's down, no mate ever showed up.

easy quest for a 59 lock.

The Quest is less about the reward then it is about getting possibly the best cat pet in the game. This quest is a must for any hunter who likes cats. Taming Shy-Rotam or her mate is the real objective.

Pulled her away from the stone and no spawn whatsoever. Me (56 hunter), 54 rogue, and a 60 mage downed her quite easily after that. She does fear quite a bit (maybe 2-3 times) but it's no real problem if you try to get the Sacred Meat around the stone area since the mobs will have thinned out by then.

Did it again afterwards for someone else with a 57 tank, same principle. Pull her away and she won't spawn her mate, Sian Rotam.

I'm a novice at this game. This is my first character and for every one thing I know about WOW, there are a few dozen dozen things I do not know. For just one example, I have only done one instance on the Cenarius server ( Razorfen Kraul) and that was solo.

But I have stumbled along as a solo Tauren hunter to 59. And usually can hang in most situations. So I thought I could probably solo this quest. Worth a try anyway. ayiyiyiyi...I was wrong

For anybody a little confused, as I was, as to the location of Shy's rock altar.... that huge angled slab with the alliance trainer up top.....just go behind and under that slab. You'll see the altar and a path to the "cave".

OK. I got the meat quickly and cleared around the area. Placed the meat.Shy came roaring out and cast fear on my pet immediately then on me and did huge damage to me while I was running around and helpless. Pet came back and was dead in a short time....I was dead shortly thereafter. Pulverized my butt.

Made the run back to res, and thought I'd do better now that I knew what was what. So set an immolation trap in her path before summoning and got a few shots off - concussive first - this time before she cast fear on the pet......made the mistake of trying to mend my pet...no go..pet died..so we were now going toe to toe and I was making a little slow progress when she hit 55% health or so and her mate arrived. Soon I was dead. I gave up....lol....which I usually don't do. I didn't come anywhere close to putting em both away. Though I am a solo player, next time I may try and assemble a 40 player raid group for this quest <grin>.

One good thing about the trip to Frostsabre rock....before trying the quest I tamed a huntress and picked up level 3 dash for my pet.

Shy and Sian look cool for sure....personally I think the level 59 and 60 Pride Watchers hanging around the area look even better. But me, I will hang with the old mountain lion I started with. (I like dogs better than cats in real life....but the pet has saved me more times than I can count. A stubborn loyalty thing) Too bad that when you tame an elite pet like Shy or Sian, most of their abilites in the game do not translate into capacities as pets. (as best I can tell)

Last night I tamed Rak'Shiri as my pet, but then I learned of this horde-only quest that spawns Sky. When I was reading postings about sky I noticed someone said something about taming Sky. Could anyone tell me if there is an improvement in one over the other as a hunter pet?

If any horde has this quest I'd pay 20G if you let me tame Siam, Shy's mate. If successful, we'll set up an auction house transaction there in Everlook in Winterspring. I'm Modan on the Argent Dawn server. I've done this before to get Shy but was disappointed because Shy looked just like Rak'Shiri. I would really love to have the only lvl 60 lion in the game. I soloed her at 59 with my warlock...

And the meat was not that hard to loot either. And the 15 sta medal you get at the end is not a PoS.

All I did was summon her, pull her to the lake and kept fearing dotting/nuking, with my imp nuking away at her as she ran around.

If you keep her on the lake away from her rock she'll never summon her mate, or maybe it was just me keeping her feared. Either way as a warlock this quest was a joke.

The meat you need to summon Shy-Rotam appears to only drop off the high level blue frostsabers. They're easy to spot seeing as they're dark blue as opposed to the white color of the rest of the frostsabers.

Tamed this beauty a few days ago on Gorgonnash, and I'm not ashamed to say that I stole her from two horde. ;) I asked nicely first, (/beg /point). They both wiped and I tried to tame her, but it was too hard with her mate beating on my head. I had to FD and run off. The horde came back and one of them was a hunter who cried on my shoulder and pointed at her too, so i got the impression he wanted to tame her first. So I nodded, and waited, but man did they do a terrible job! Sian was beating on their asses, and the hunter was trying to run with Shy chasing him, so i set down a trap, chased after her, distracting shot her when the hunter died, and ran back to my trap. She feared me before she got there, but then hit the trap! After the fear wore off, I was still just within taming range, so I started it and bam! Got her! Fed her and hearthed the hell outta there, muahahahaha! I love her!

Just be aware, Shy-Rotam fears you a lot.

When it is down to less than half health, she summons her mate, another 60 elite.

A 59 Warlock posted below that she pulled Shy-Rotam to the frozen lake and killed her with chain-fear, and never had her mate spawn.

I am confirming this. I am a 60 Warlock (Zem of Zul'jin). I cleared the cubs from across the lake, and pulled Shy-Rotam all the way over as far away from the sacred stone as I could, and kept her DoT'd and chain-feared. She never summoned her mate.

I had made 3 previous attempts with chain-fearing at the rock itself, and she always summoned her mate. So, I don't believe it's related to fear. As long as you pull her far away from the sacred rock where you summon out, she won't be able to summon her mate. There seems to be a limit on range.

Also, she herself hit me (a squishy) for about 250 damage. Her mate, on the other hand, hit for 450 consistently. Her mate is harder than she is.

Doesn't matter if you fight on frozen lake her mate still came when I tried.

The major problem is main saber fears and her mate does as well. They fear to often which is only problem.

They could of atleast made her mate a non elite.

Soloed on my troll 0/0/51 Frost mage. Nuked Shy-rotam then sheeped Sian while I regged mana (didnt have evocation tho). Had cold snap so 2 icebarriers and 2 elementals and if you need you run away from elemental and IB so they run back to him.

Duo'ed this with my friend (mage 60), me being a lvl 60 warlock.

Was kinda tight, it summons its mate around 50% health, who hits atleast as hard as shy-rotam. Had to do some extensive fearing to keep Shy-Rotam away, then feared the mate when it showed up and then killed Shy-Rotam.

Although, after killing it, her mate made mincemeat out of my, and then my mage friend. But killed it all the same :)

The fight wouldve been easier if we'd have had either a tank or healer.

I'm a lvl 58 Night Elf Huntress on Aegwynn, on my way to lvl 60, and I'd be eternally grateful if someone with intentions of completing this quest would let me have a go at taming her first.

Any of you alliance on KHAZ MODAN server who want Shy-Rotam for a pet, I have one piece of sacred frostsaber meat (the quest item) with which you can tame it. Super easy as a warlock. Pull to middle of the open area, cast all dots and spam fear. It dies really fast, but hits really hard so try to keep Shy feared as much as possible. You might want to clear the area first.

This quest was originally a Horde Only quest in WoW Classic and will be changed to be Faction Agnostic with the TBC Prepatch. (Tested on TBC Beta)

You may want to get your Wintersaber mount before doing this quest as you will likely make your servers Frostsaber population extinct in the process of trying to get the "Sacred Meat" to drop.

In northern Winterspring, great cats assemble around a large landmark called Frostsaber Rock. The leader of these cats is known by the name Shy-Rotam. Defeating the matriarch of the frostsabers would grant you much respect in the eyes of your fellow <race>.

Go again to the harsh wilds, and once there, gather sacred meat from the frostsabers. Find the stone of Shy-Rotam, and place it there. Placing the meat of her kin before her will summon Shy-Rotam, in anger.

Be ready for her fury, and defeat her.
