The runners wander the road from the entrance to Felwood all the way to the top of the winterfall village. You can also find a runner in the felpaw village in felwood.

The runners in winterfall travel in a pack of 3 (lvl 57), the easiest way to get the crate is from the runner in felwood since you can just pull the one runner. This is their route: https://www.wowhead.com/classic/npc=10916

When you turn in the quest to Donova Snowden 3 ambushers will spawn and aggro you. You can feign death, stealth or turn in the quest while mounted and run away. The ambushers will eventually group up by the lake and you can safely talk to Donova Snowden again to get the next quest, without having to kill any of the ambushers.

There's a very good chance that the one walking in front (delta formation: one in front and 2 behind him on each side) has the crate. It seems to be a good 80% chance or so.

If you're a lower level and can't handle the three by yourself, kill only this one and, if he has the crate, grab it and run off. The funny part about doing this is that they'll continue to pat around as two, without a crate, until someone kills the remaining furbolgs.

When you return to get the xp the NPC says:

Are you sure you weren`t followed? Watch out! ...etc etc

And then 4 mobs comes out of nowhere - 4 level 56 furbolg`s.

2 casters and 2 warriors :)

....so watch out :P

They killed me, a level 56 undead mage while that lame ass npc did nothing but gaze at them :(

If you're a rogue, druid, or Night Elf, turn the quest in and stealth immediately. The 4 mobs will spawn and walk around near the lake for a few minutes, then disappear without a fight. :)

ok you guys are confusing people, for the quest, you have to go out and find these 3 lv 57 runner things. they patrol the road around where you get the quest. just look for them. i did it at 52 because i got a 57 shaman to help me :D hehe. when you go back and turn it in, 3 or 4 lv56 ambushers come out and attack, they have nothing to do with the quest. i was on my mount, turned in the quest, they spawned, i rode off without getting hit, and then came back and got the next quest. easy.

"Remember the Cauldron from one of the quests? There should've been a Winterfall runner there with the other Furbolgs. This'll save you time from looking for the group of 3."

For solo players, this was great advice. No waiting, and an easy kill

tloc 53,32 - what i did i used my pet again, i did fight one of them my pet 2 other ones, i killed the first one - got the item! lucky me.

they walk along the path, between tloc 40,41 and 53,32

As with others, I went to the camp where I'd found the cauldron and there was a Winterfall Runner standing right next to it. I pulled it and just the one came at me. Killed him quickly and easily and moved on.

Yup. Go to the camp at coords 59 - 6 and stand on the knoll. Pull the Runner - when you shoot him he will come by himself. Kill him, get the crate, and ride out. A synch. 56 lock with a pet, no troubles.

Solo'd as 53 shadow priest. SWP one of them, full mind blast and mind flay, one fear, he died and dropped the crate. 200 hp left, the other mobs came back and killed me. Fortunately this was at the Winterfall site so very close to the graveyard.

Soloed this as a 57 hunter with the help of my freezing trap. It was *thiiiiis* close I didn't die, so I recommend a party. :)

Solod as a 55 warrior. Retaliation was on CD so had to do something else :S

Approached from the back (they walk in a triangle with 2 in the front) used diamond flask - charged - int. shout - was lucky with some crits on the one i charged, so he was dead before the 2 others came after me - sweeping strikes took care of the 2 others. Drank 1 superior health potion and finished with 400 hp!

didnt see any ambushers when i delivered it :S?

really easy with my 57 mage just get some distance between you and the runner then pull him with a fireball (didnt pull any adds) then nuke him fast as you can mount up and your done

How did you do this without pulling adds?` :P

i pulled the hole place, but was lucky and pwned the whole place! ^^

Solo as 57/58 frost mage!

For those of you who look for the Runner in the Northwest Corner of Felpaw Village(Where the single Runner and the Cauldron for the previous quest are), the Runner didn't link when I moonfired him. I was ready to fight 5 Furbogs, but the Runner was the only one that bothered me.

as sson as you hand in the quest there will be a group of 3 ambushers (level 57) appearing near the lake.. just run in the opposite direction to avoid them. (or you can choose to fight.. your choice really)

Just to confirm loc 60,9 for the runner.

Lvl 57 surrounded by four lvl 54/55. Too many for my lvl 55 lock on his own. Hit and run may have worked. But i was lucky to find a friendly lvl 60 druid who aggro'd the adds and ran off with them for me while i was left to kill the runner.

Makes your day to get some random help on a quest.

Soloed as a 54 rogue (horde), pretty easy, no potions, no scrolls
And hopefuly when the ambushers came i was mounted and ran away, didnt even use vanish, blind or anything :p gives 6k exp and 250 rep

Simle , level 60 warrior , find them up and down the path. ownd them with 3000hp left , get the crate and your done. i wouldnt suggest a level 55 try this . would be quite tricky without a potion.

I am a lvl 54 Human warlock and i soloed this.
I sent the voidwlker to aggro all the 3 of the Runners and i pulled the last one, as OokamiNoTsuki
suggested. As soon as the voidwalker was ready to die i sacrificed him. I finally killed the runner, he indeed droped the box for me and then i started running with my shield. When the shield went off i used a healthstone and kept running until the other two runners left me..

This was a fairly ez quest, im a 54 rogue and i teamed up with a 55 rogue did it. Everytime i have seen them they have been on the long path heading east, near the quest giver so just camp their. I think there r 3 lvl 57's so it can be hard.

Upon returning the quest she asks " are u sure u wern't followed" so i quickly stealthed and a 56,56 and a 57, come running in and just stand their stupidly. I thought they would attack the NpC or something. I could angled it right so i talked to her got the next quest, and let the next poor chap deal with them, but i wondered "could i take all 3 on".

So i ran up and cheap shotted one(likely shoulda sapped the 57). As a combat rogue i used my main combo for taking on groups, after the first cheapshot i throw on evasion, then i throw on blade of fury and adrenaline rush. Wut this does it increase my dodge by 50% for 30 seconds, basically making me invinsible. Then blade of fury ( a combat spec rogue technique) lets me attack two targets at once, with a 20% attack speed increase, and finally adrenaline rush doubles my energy regeneration rate by 200% so that i can pull out the maximum damage while in blade of fury. With this i managed to take out the two lvl 56's, just by SS spamming and using eviscrete since im a sword rogue, then with half health left i took out the 57. It was real fun

I wouldnt recomend trying to take on all 3 if u dont have a plan, or if u dont have AoE's or something

I just did this quest as a 55 Tauren warrior and managed to kill all 3 of the runner aswell. My strategy was to go into battle stance, use blood rage followed by battleshout (to save rage during the fight), I then waited for my health to reach full and charged the back runner, hit damoralizing shout, war stomped, sundered the mob I was on, hit retalliation (quickly kills the mob your on and damages the others), I then used intimadating shout while I finished up the first one, then finished off the other 2 when they came back. I ended the fight with around 10-15% HP...easy

There's a trick to this quest, either that or I got lucky. Focus in on one runner; kill it; then psychic scream. When the other runners run away, get the drop from the dead runner.

As a level 53 mage I didn't have much chance taking on 3 57s so, as other people suggested, kill one and run like hell.

I barely survived after killing one but I managed to get the crate and run with about 200 hp left. Then a hunter popped up and shot me to death.

Solo'd as a 54 'lock. Used a healthstone and a superior health pot, but I emerged victorious.

Solo'd at 55 with my rogue. Cheapshotted the one in the back, then popped Evasion, Blade Flurry, Adrenaline Rush and my Black Pearl Panther Trinket. Killed 2 of them, then used thistle tea and a health pot to kill the last one. Only hard part was finding them. :(

If you have to solo the Runners, make sure to target the one walking behind and kill him before dying/running like hell/feigning death. In my experience he's the one who has the chest.

Soloed lvl 53, just frost rap then tank with pet stay back and ranged, killed one, pet died, ran in, got quest drop, the feign death. :D

After you hand it in - expect to get ganked by 5 waves of 3 fuborgs. Quest is easy to solo but the effects of it are rather tough. You don't have to kill them if you don't want to though.

Solo'd this quest as a lvl 55 shadow spec'd priest. MC to take down 1, a couple psychic screams, and the other 2 are toast.

I actually got the drop from the runner that spawns at the Deadwood camp in Felwood while a guildie and I were grinding rep with the Timbermaws. Of course getting to and killing that one may well be more difficult than killing the wandering group.

Was farming Yeti, helped a L60 kill a NPC and she hit me with Mark of the Wild.

Went looking for the 3 runners...found them already dead in Winterfall Village. :(

Travelled on the path from the Village heading towards Felwood, hoping that I would run into them again. Found them. Buffed up with all my scrolls, Well Fed, etc. Stealthed and got ready to strike...and a L60 Warrior attacked and killed all three right in front of me. :(

Now my Mark of the Wild was running out (15 minutes left) and all my scroll buffs were going to run out if I couldn't find them again.

Cruised up and down the main trail, and with 5 minutes left, I spotted them. Dismounted, stealthed, got behind them, and attacked the trail runner with Cheap Shot and Backstab. Killed that one, then took on the other two. Killed one of them, but health was running at about 35%. Drank a healing potion, and finished off the last one. Looted and then turned in the quest!

That was close. No way I could have done that without Mark of the Wild and some scroll help. Sometimes it really pays to help others!

I solo'd this quest easily with a 55 tauren shaman.

Lightning Bolted the runner in the rear, dropped stoneclaw totem to draw aggro from the others, and ran while shocking the one holding the chest. The other 2 dropped aggro and I finished off the runner I was attacking. Picked up the chest and left the area. Didn't even drop under 70% health.

Found the 3 on the road, mounted and ran ahead, dropped an explosive trap in the middle of the road. Pulled all 3 with multishot, they hit the trap and I tossed them a "Big One" - Goblin Engineering FTW. Activated deterence and AotM, counterstriked each one and ran back out to range. Volley'd until they broke the immobilization, hit multishot and melee'd the last one down. np. Fiery weapons dual-wielded with Deterence and spammable attacks bumps DPS by almost 50 until I run out of mana... :P

Got the stamina buff from a random priest while I was turning it in, rinsed and repeated previous strategy.

This is do-able as a 56 warlock (specced afflication).
Took me a ride up and down the road to find them, but finally saw them around the lake. All 3 are 57 (non elite). I send in the VW and was able to DoTs all three of them. At one point one comes after you...fear him (my fear is up to 20 secs now so you have enough time to do stuff)....there is no one around so he didn't aggro another creature....at that time you can help out the VW and kill one. Have the void focus on the second one and repace DoTs where necessary. The feared comes back, so fear again and finish off the one with the VW. Wait until feared one is back and kill him....easy to do...didn't die once...

When you cash in your quest you get a similar scenario at Donova's camp. Use same method and you're fine..

Solod as a 57 (feral) druid. Not too bad, only had to use Frenzied Regeration once. Although I'd killed this group twice while running back and forth doing the pre-requisite quests then of course when I finally get this quest they were nowhere to be found, lol. Not too hard at all though, and pretty decent XP!

Be careful when turning in, though. I'm not sure if this happened as a part of the quest or a random event that just happened, but right after I turned in, she walks away then says something like "Are you sure you weren't followed? I have a bad feeling. Be on your guard!" and you get attacked by three Winterfall Ambushers, two lvl56 and one lvl57.

Soloed as a level 54 Warrior. I know, I know, some people don't want to hear stories like this, they just want the numbers. But they're the sort who like to sleep in tubes and press buttons.

The Runners (what a poorly chosen name for a group that walks slower than my Grandmother!) start out near the entrance to Timbermaw Hold and meander to Everlook, or close to it. I found them after dropping some stuff off at Everlook, scrolling and potioning up, and in general getting ready for a fight.

They were three level 57s, so I hit them with a Crystal Charge, Retaliation, shouts, etc., and died. Oh well. I was too late when returning to loot the one I had killed. However, I knew which way they were headed, so I mounted up and followed.

A level 54 can handle two level 57s, just barely. I wasn't as charged up as the first time, but I managed it natheless, and got the crate of goods. As mentioned, three more jump you when you get back to Donova, but you can just stay out of aggro range until they fade away.

The next part, though, I don;t think will be soloable.

soloed as 53 frost mage. VERY lucky. spawned elemental, set him on the left one, sheeped the middle and nuked the other myself. they resisted like hell (well, they are 57) and it took all my effort, a potion, evocation and cold snap but i did it :D

The other runners will retreat once ranged.
Kill the one you tagged.
Rinse and repeat until you get your crate.

You can't kite one. They all now aggro together and leash back together.

I found a group of 2 on the road, rooted one and attacked the other. Although I am a 57 feral, I only got his health down to about 50% before the other one caught up with us. Even if you are using a ranged attack on one, they both leash back together after a certain point.

This is one of those quests that was soloable in vanilla but has been changed so it no longer can be soloed.

Dont bother with trying to follow the path. I ended up going to the felwood village area and the Winterfall Runner was standing behind the cauldrin. Pulled him and got the crate.

Do you have to have the "Winterfall Runners" quest active for them to appear or you can farm them without this quest?

There is a single level 57 winterfall runner in Felwood at 60,6. Unlike the ones in winterfall, he does not move. He is the same NPC guarding the cauldron from the earlier quest in this quest line. But, as you should already know, he has 4 adds surrounding him.

Very interesting, <name>...

When this toxic substance is mixed with the water from the hot springs, it loses its toxicity, only retaining the ability to temporarily affect those that ingest it. This must be why the Winterfall protect the hot springs so fervently -- they need them to purify their firewater.

We need to stop this -- cut off contact between the Winterfall and the Deadwood. A group of runners walks the distance between their village and Felwood. Find and defeat them, and steal their shipment.
