This in my opinion is the best Leatherworking path for Hunter Leatherworkers. This is the dependency that a lot of the Mail items in Leatherworking requires. The quests to get Dragonscale Leatherworking are hard but well worth it. Peter Gralen is located in Azshara and will start you with the first quests to obtain Dragonscale LW.

A good place to farm Dragonscales are in the Badlands, by where all the dragons patrol. I think it's the fastest way to get them besides having to buy them in the Auction House.

Another good place to obtain worn dragonscale if you are level 49 or above is around Onyxia's Lair in Dustswallow Marsh. You can circle her lair, clearing out dragonkin as you go, and harvest a ton of thick leather, heavy leather, and of course worn dragonscale.

What about the sales? Can you really sell the items that this dragonscale hability gives to you? With the BC out there I guess that mail armor like dragonscale ones are pretty outdated, aren't they?

I was thinking about get Tribal LW instead, to reach the new Shamans on the alliance (although I haven't seen many yet)... still kinda confused here!

I managed to farm all the worn dragonscale I needed on a single run to Sunken Temple. If you're in a group that's patient and has no other skinners, make sure to skin all the dragonkin you kill on your way to Jammal'an/Eranikus. If you've got quests there, why not?

As of the 18th of May 2007 WoWhead is reporting that this quest requires level 49, however I just accepted the quest at level 40.

Follow the road east from Astraanar and ,without deviating from the path ,you will zone into Azshara. Staying the path you will come to some ruins that some mid-40 Naga inhabit. Take a right through these ruins avoiding all the Naga you can and ,hopefully, outrunning the rest on your mount you will come to the small camp where Peter is hanging out. To make this trip a one time thing be sure you have all the necessary items in addition to having LW up to 255.

It isn't difficult to get to Peter without being hit once. Anyways, hope that helps^^

after your leatherworking has reached 225, the master leatherworker in Darnassus should tell you to go to aerie peak to find the next guy to help you. Aerie Peak is just on north of arathi highlands, east of altarac mountains. But don't take the wrong road... or you'll get to this place full of undead lvl 55+... i got there once by mistake when i was looking for aerie peak... damn that was bad!

This quest is very easy for a level 42 to get to. My Dwarf Hunter who is level 42 just ran by on my mount and had no trouble until I met a naga who knocked me off, then I just used Fiegn Death and they ran away, then I continued on after I got on my mount. After I got the quest all I did was go to Ironforge and log off. Easy as that. If your level 47-48 you should have no problems getting there, even if you do stop to fight the monsters. And my route was follow the road until you get to the second right turn and there were a few naga there, and that one deer that doesn't attack you whose right outside of the camp he's in, and then I got the quest. It's right outside the Forlorn Ridge or something like that.

Where to find the materials:
(Need 10) Worn Dragonscale: You can find them off of the dragons in the Badlands I think, I'm not sure though.

(Need 36) Thick Leather: You can find it off of most level 35-50 monsters I think. I get a ton off of the level 40-43's I train on.

Everyone knowledged about the long term goals for a hunter can basically agree that if you want the generally "best" choice for a hunter it would be dragonscale. This is NOT due to the stats...its the armor. Imbue each piece with +agi from a nice enchanter to counteract their lack thereof. The next main point would be the fact the you can go to the neutral AH and sell them for lots o' money. The alliance AH is nice, but again, this is best suited for Shaman. Money making is the real aspect to due this as many people will buy it just to say "Hey! I'm wearing dragonscale! Aren't I special!". Long term, the best armor for Hunters lie within the level 60 sets out there. The only one ive come into direct contact with is the BeastStalker set, but there are two others i believe.
Main points:
- Awesome for shaman
- Great to sell
- Very hard to make...( :( ) which allows you to crank up the price
- If imbued with +agi, then a hunter can make decent use of the pieces.
- It Is Mail.

Overall i would give this a 6 out of 10. I'd rank it higher if the hunter sets weren't so insanely awesome.

Of course, mail armor falls under the Dragonscale area (duh!) - primarily for Hunters. Elemental has some good stuff but is primarily focused on rogue benefits. Tribal also has some good stuff for rogues but primarily benefits the druids. Of course, all leatherworkers can make the Scorpid (mail) armor - the majority of LW items remain open for all. The really good items for all LW require Friendly, Honored or Revered with some faction (Timbermaw, Zandalar, Argent Dawn or Cenarion Circle). So, the question is: do you want to make items to sell or items for personal benefit? I would guess that rogues provide the largest specialized market (Elemental) and hunters the second but farming for materials increases the difficulty of the DS area (none are easy materials to get).

I hit 250 in LW at Lv 45 and went Tribal (Alliance � NE Druid). If you need anything on Detheroc, let me know.

BTW - from what I understand, I don't believe it is possible to drop one of the specialization areas to take up another. You could drop leatherworking as a skill and start all over again after adding it as a new skill. But then, you can't do the Wild Leather quests again in order to take up one of the specialization areas. It would appear that it cannot be done.

For alliance you have to first get LW to 225 then go to aerie peak and get artisan LW.......

if you are horde you still have to get artisan LW but i am not sure where

then you have to go to azshara and talk to Peter Galen......

he will tell you to bring him 2 tough scorpid gloves, 2 tough scorpid breastplates, and 10 worn dragonscales.........

you can probably get these in the AH.....

if you get all of these before you go to him it makes life a lot easier........

you have to be level 40 to start this quest tho

Requirements:
Level 40
Leatherworking 225
36 Thick Leather (AH or Farm) - easy
26 Scorpid Scale (AH or Farm) - medium
12 Silken Thread (Vendor)
10 Dragonscales (AH or Farm) - difficult
Pattern for Tough Scorpid Breastplate (AH or Drop)
Pattern for Tough Scorpid Gloves (AH or Drop)

Process:
Make sure you have all of the above. Next go to Peter Galen in Azshara after avoiding the mobs (46-48) around him (not difficult) and he will give you the quest. Make the garments out of the items above and hand in.

Done!

The quest requires 2 each of the tough scorpid breastplate and tough scorpid gloves, so the required number of scorpid scales you need to prepare is 40.

When i turned in my dragonscale quest i was wearing a breastplate and the gloves, which i had put armor kits on. I also had 2 of each in my bag. When i turned it the quest it took the breastplate and gloves off my back and one of each from my bag. Leaving me with one of the sets in my bag that i had intended for the quest. Needless to say i petitioned a GM and they told me that it was working properly. So if you want to keep the set your wearing dont show up with it on you.

For anyone who is having trouble finding lots of worn dragonscale, going to dustwallow marsh has made life easy for me. The kin there are lvl 42-44 and i have been knocking them over since lvl 39. Alot of the time they skin to 2x thick leather or 2x heavy leather and plenty of worn dragonscales to be had. the drop rate is a bit higher there rather than swamp of sorrows, i think because you dont have to worry about the green dragonscales drop rate messing with your worn scale rate.

For alliance, jump off the south of the jetty at theramore, swim across the bay to the south west, this will bring you up to onyxia's lair. By the time i have done a lap of the mountain that makes her home, I generally have around 60-80 thick leather and a dozen worn scales, takes me about 30 minutes to kill a complete lap.

Still, ds armour has crappy agi stats and im thinking of dropping it due to the fact that im a while off killing any of the other colour dragons since they are all elites, bar green and worn scales, and green armour stats blow.

The first few items you can make have a nice critical hit bonus but thats about it as far as hunters go, you could get far better armour bought with pvp honour by the time you get lvl 50, so maybe ill switch to elemental and make lock armour instead, not sure yet

I did a couple of the Wild Leather quests from Feathermoon Stronghold, based on misinformation here. I didn't do the last ones, which would have required 80 or so turtle scales, and I still got the training and specialization in dragonscale. At the moment I don't know if you have to do any of them to specialize.

BTW, he's very safe and easy to reach if you stay on the road into Azshara, then turn when you see the horde flags and the skirt the mountainside in a NE direction until you see him, as others have stated before. Since you have to be 40 to train you won't draw much aggro (if any) this way. It does help to be a hunter so you can see the mobs, initially critters and then the wrathscale humanoids, and avoid them.

Ok, I did the quest and have the Dragonscale leatherworking icon in my spell book, BUT my skill still says 225/225.. How do I get it to go up to 300?

Do I need to talk to this trainer again to get Artisan or whatever the next level is called? 225 -> 300

Should it not read 225/300 after completing this quest?

i am a lvl 40 hunter, i just got this quest today.. i dont know what the crap you people are talking about having to be lvl 41.. my lw is at 256.. maybe you people are trying to get the quest without having a high enough skill in lw.. idk.. but you CAN get it at lvl 40.. kthnxby

MicroMachine, why did you duplicate your post over botht eh Horde and the Alliance quest? Your question is bogus because this isn't the horde trainer, this is the alliance one. Read before you do things like this.

1. You do *NOT* need to do this quest to get leatherworking past 225. For that, you need to buy a book from this guy (for alliance) Drakk Stonehand .

2. Getting dragonscales is EXTREMELY tedious if you're under level 50. Pretty much the only dragons you can kill that will drop them at lower 40's are the searing whelps in eastern Badlands and the other whelps in southern dustwallow marsh.

3. Once you get into dragonscale LW, there's only 2 recipes from the trainer, pretty much all others are found.

4. Most dragonscale recipes are aimed at hunters and warriors, as they create mainly agil and strength mail armor.

Right hopefully this should clear it up 24 hours ago i started my alliance dragonscale training i got it of a npc called peter galen he is in Azshara, seen as azshara seems to be the best place for dragonscale it makes sense.

Found out that in order to attain this Q, you have to be (as stated) lvl 41, but you also have to have minimum 225 in LW skill. Made the trip after getting artisan at 220, lvl 41, but the NPC didn't show the Q. Went back when I hit 230 and had no probs.
Recommend entering (for lower lvls) via the Horde route to Forlorn Ridge, then follow the ridge east to 37,65. Didn't meet any resistance at all.

Well he is in a small tent at 38.65. As you go along the ridge stand on a boulder at 34.68 and look NEE and you can see his tent. The Horde tower referred to above is at 29.62 this is the best way to go.

Does it take a certain lvl of Skinning to get the quest. He says you must be able to attain the Worn Dragonscale. Mabye your skinning has to be high enough for you to skin them off of things before you can get the quest...

if your looking for a good place to get these mats...i would recommend the dragons to the south west of theramore for the dragonscales, and the scorpids all around gadgetstan for the scorpid scale

Strangely enough are the parts to make the pieces of elemental,dragonscale and tribal mostly more worth then the created piece itself unless you want to spend more coin and AH it to answer the moneygrubbing questions.
Greendragon scales and worn drop fairly easy in swamp of sorrows (islands in the back)lvl's var 40-45
My opinion: Fun to make once or to up the skill but there are easier ways...

Just a warning--I filed a GM ticket on 3/1/2005, hopefully the bug is forwarded to the devs and fixed sometime:

If you have Tough Scorpid Gloves equipped when you complete Peter's quest, he will take the gloves you're wearing plus one of the two gloves in your bags. Because of this, I lost the +7agi enchanted Tough Scorpid Gloves I was wearing.

Luckily I didn't really lose much since I got the enchantment free from someone who was either rich and throwing money away for the hell of it, or just wanted to get skillup as quickly as possible.

Okay, so my leather skill is at 260, and I took up dragonscale leatherworking......... What I wanna know is after he gives you the dragonscale breastplate, why is there nothing in the list "unavailable" list? Have I learnt everything peter galen can teach me now? Do I go to another trainer somewhere or do I buy the patterns from now on?

well i got here without attacking or being attacked by anything. when your walking up the road towards the ruins there is a path on the right going up to a horde tower there is nothing there. Walk towards it then under it and walk along the ridge until you get to his tent. you fight nothing on the ridge.

As long as you have your mount and some decent maneuvering skills, you should be able to run straight through the ruins and right past the nagas without getting hit once.

i found this easy and hard... the thing that gave it away was his small tent. If you can see that, go to it and he should be there. I was level 40 when i did this so... the naga were a big threat

Here's how I did this with a 41 Paladin (no stealth): as you approach the ruins on the road (from Astranaar) from the southwest, you come abreast of a turn-off on the right, marked with a horde flag. Take it, avoiding horde by following the ridgeline. Stay on the rigde as far as you can to the northeast, until you see Peter Galen's tent to the north on the valley floor. If you descend the ridge in a straight line to the north to get to his tent you shouldn't hit any mobs. The ridge was clear when I passed through but it looked like it's usually patrolled. If you stay on the valley floor you hit tightly packed lvl 38-ish mobs. Also the area is heavily traveled by horde players. The first time I went there Galen had been killed so I had to wait for him to rez (it was quick).

One more thing, he's on the east side of the chasm on the eastern edge of the ruins. That chasm runs north-south, perpendicular to the north side of the ridge you'll be on. Good luck!

Is there a place I can read up on the different types of leatherworking? I am not sure which one I want to go with for my hunter and I want to research the choice before I make a boo boo of picking the wrong one.
I have a troll hunter and a night elf hunter that both do leather, and I am not sure yet if they both should pick the same one (I assume hunters would just be the same...not that the race matters) or what.
Any advice?

Basically i wanted to find the dragonscale leatherworker but no one ever gave coords or a general area. then i searched the forlorn ridge or something like that in aszhara. i finally found the tent after searching for a whole three minutes... well the guy can be found at (37,65) once you find him u get the quest and need to farm about 40 Scorpid Scales. i did that in tanaris since theres a million of them. well good luck fellow dragonscalers...

I’m running a Horde Leather Worker and I completed all the Wild Armor quests offered in Feralas. Neither Hahrana Ironhide the Master Leatherworker or Jangdor Swiftstrider Leatherworking Supplies offer any more quests.
I know that Leather Working has three specialties. Is there some NPC that tells me I can choose one of the specialties, then tells me to go see so-n-so?
