Actaully, teh coords for Gahrrons Withering are more lke 62,58 (the ones above are for Writhing Haunt).

Is there a trick to getting the Lord to pop? I have been repeatedly going to the cauldron and he never shows. IT offers the Writhing Haunt Cauldron quest when I click on it.

I've found for a couple of them, that you have to kill some of the undead around were he spawns, before he'll show up...hope that helps... :)

For some reason I can't seem to get this quest... I can't talk to shadow priest about it, she just tells me they're still fighting against the scourge; and I'm level 55.. What is happening?

Cauldron Lord kicks pretty hard, and far. So get close to the Cauldron with your back facing it when you fight him.

Mobs are between lvls 56 - 57.

Coordinates are the same from above post.

Good advice. Otherwise the CL keeps booting you into bunches of other mobs. I think I counted about 8 or 9 just before I got a free trip to the Tombstone Tavern. Clearing the area as much as possible is a must, of course, but the respawn rate is so high, you'll be fighting several at a time almost the whole time.

Also, the Cauldron Lord has this trick called Silence. Don't know how it works on others but it took my 58 Warlock out of (offensive & defensive)action for 10 seconds at a time. That's a long time in a battle with 3 mobs on you and the CL used it 3 times in a row. Didn't seem to affect the felguard much but I almost didn't get the chance to fight at all.

Interesting challenge. Might try it again but Outland beckons and the rewards are, as usual, not equilvalent to the time and effort expended.

Edit: Went back and got it done. Took 2 deaths (fear doesn't work on undead) and 1.45G repair bill. Reward was 90S, not 3G. About 6K XP. Good farming for AD rep though. Be careful about getting back from the graveyard though; for some reason the designers have reduced the loot time on mobs, so a long graveyard run will cost you the loot from the mobs you've just killed.

WOW.....i flew through this quest line up until here....took me an hour and a half trying to clear the cauldron on this side, and when ever i would the boss would respawn.....tore my hair out about 2 times....started to cry about an hour in lol but it was more of a stress cry like OOOMFG! ><

I never thought i would say this... but some hordes are really nice! I tried to kill this guy with my level 54 pally and(of course) was almost dead. But (like the cavalery) there was my saviour, a 60 horde hunter!

Amazing... I would never do that :P... LOL!

Did this right now, key dropped, and quest done. Probably just a bug Dashtide, you can contact a GM about it.

I hung around the caldron for an hour and never saw the lord spawn near it. Where does he spawn? Is there a trigger? Thanks

Cauldron is at 62,58. The lord is a 58 warrior and spawns exactly beside the cauldron. Just circle around. Mobs around the cauldron are lvl 58, so cleared them just to make sure. If the lord isn't there someone probably killed him just wait, lord spawns in maybe 10-15 mins, happened to me in the previous cauldron quests wherein the lord was killed by someone.

Be careful with the Cauldron lord. He knocks back and silences. I found the best way to do him was to clear, then pull him all the way over to the grass past the fence. There he can knock you back as much as he wants and you won't aggro anything else. His silence was a pain, but generally I just kept shadow word on him, meleed him, and did shield and regen on myself whenever I wasn't silenced. Was actually a pretty fun fight.

solo'd with 58 warrior, but didn't clear and he knocked me back. died, but killed him and looted, so still good.

Killed him but the key didn't drop. Very annoying.

Chandra didn't emphasize enough that you have to clear everything, and I mean, everything, in the field before tackling the Cauldron Lord and his minion. If you don't, you will be knocked back into a pile of three or four of them, and will repeatedly die. Died three times with my 59 paladin before doing this. Oh, use your Shadow Aura, as you probably won't have enough time to switch back & forth between it and Retribution Aura. I found that using a Winterfall Firewater potion helped, also.

A profoundly unpleasant quest. All the mobs have some annoying gimmick or debuff, and the density around the cauldron is such that you basically have to clear all around it - a good nine or ten undead, all of which respawn quickly. If you die, you're likely to have to clear it all over again.

Few quests have made me appreciate the quest design of later expansions more.

My 56 hunter found that the main problem, other than the unusually-long aggro range which meant that you basically need to kill any mob you can see, around several dozen, was that I couldn't get my pet to hold aggro on Soulwrath, even with Intimidation and Beastial Wrath. So he'd ignore my pet and come right for me. The first time he ignored FD as well, and then chased me to just outside of Pittsburgh.

Came back a second time, cleared all the same mobs which had respawned and tried to pull him away from the cauldron. Just barely managed to kill him near the ruins of Andorhal (yes, THAT far away) using FD (which worked ONCE only) and all the potions in my bag. He's immune to Scare Beast because he's not a beast, right? OK, got the key, ate and drank, rezzed my pet and went back to the cauldron. All the mobs we had killed before had respawned. Started the process again and just got to the cauldron, when Soulwrath and his guard respawned. Tried to drag him over to the lake again but he has some kind of knockback, hits pretty hard, ignored my pet completely, I didn't want to waste any more potions and mail armor isn't what it used to be.

Then I noticed that the key I had received from killing him the first time had vanished (no, it wasn't on the key ring). So that's that. I guess I might come back when I'm 60, but then what would be the point?

Go to Gahrron's Withering in Western Plaguelands to locate and defeat the Cauldron Lord present there, and use its key to gain access to the cauldron. You must have the Empty Gahrron's Withering Bottle with you to secure a sample of the poisons used inside the cauldron.

The last cauldron that remains is located on a farm now called Gahrron's Withering. It is guarded by some of the Scourge's tougher minions - specifically, wraiths and ghosts. They are not to be trifled with, <name>.

Gahrron's Withering is due northeast of our position here, close to where the Eastern Plaguelands begin; again, eliminate the cauldron lord present there for its key. Here is your empty sample bottle; bring it to me filled. May the Light protect you in this dangerous mission, <class>.
