Make sure you talk to the guy sunderfury before coldsteel will give you the quest! Took me awhile to figure that out. Lrn2ReadJup :P

The plan for Massive Iron Axe, is a vendor recipe from the Axe Vendor at Nessingwary's Expedition in Stranglethorn Vale.

The plan for Moonsteel Broadsword is a vendor recipe from the sword specialist vendor in Booty Bay.

Yeah, it's possible to just buy it of AH, when I specced Weaponsmith on my warrior I got someone else to craft the Moonsteel Broadsword for me as I didn't have that plan myself.

Don't forget, your character has to be at least level 40 to get this quest.

First of all, let me clarify this:

You need lvl 40 and +200 BS-skill but for
the places you need to go and the things
you need to make, recommened lvl 42 & Mining 220,
BlackSmith 230

Then talk to the chief of the Great Forge (the one
in he middle of the path between te Forges),
choose weapons or armor then go to the one
near the Great Anvil.

Then off to Booty Bay.

Im starting on my armor smith quest and
let me tell you, you guys dont need half
the things i need. Plus weapons sell much
faster for way more gold. Pfff, stupid me :-)

after you are a weaponsmith you can specialize in axe, hammer, or sword smithing. To to everlook in Winterspring and you will see a hut with 3 quests in there if you are a weaponsmith, each NPC is a different trade. So accept the speicalization quest you want, and go do the quest. You get plans as a rewards and hopefully you will get the better drops for your trade.

What everyone must realize is that with all of the gold selling and farming going on, these two trades are seriously diminished profit wise. It is really hard to make any money with these two trades. So some advice for all you young blacksmiths out there is choose the trade that you yourself can use. For instance I am a level 60 rouge so I cannot wear armor but I can use maces/daggers, so I chose to be a weaponsmith and create myself some high level maces/daggers. For me to have chosen armorsmith would have been foolish considering not only would I have not made any gold with it but I also could not have used it for myself. So choose wisely when you decide to become an armorsmith or weaponsmith, always remember to help yourself.

If you think you can't get the quest your probably talking to the wrong NPC. To get the quest you must be a lvl. 40 with >200 blacksmithing. DO NOT talk to the crafters next to the great anvil first. If you do they will just say "Hello Human, Goodbye" etc. You need to talk to Myolor Sunderfury to choose your path. For me he was just a few steps from Bengus. Then you talk to your crafter.

Weaponsmithing like everything in this game has worth. Of course it all comes down to what it's for. Not only will I be able to make a little coin for myself, but also to make bridge weapons for my guildies, which I think is rather important seeing is there aren't a bunch of "rich" people hanging around. So there isn't XP huh? So what. It's about being able to accomplish the task. It's about fun, that's all. So get out there and do what you feel, 'cause really. Who cares what all the haters think?

U need to be level 40 and i think 205 blacksmithing, as i couldnt get the quest at 200. but could when i checked later at 207.

Ok, i just completed this quest. Read one of the above posts to find a list of mats needed, as for the recipies:

Big Black Mace and Heavy Mithril Axe are both learned from Brikk Keencraft in Booty Bay.

Pattern: Moonsteel Broadsword is sold at Nessingwary's camp from the vendor Jaquilina Dramet.

Pattern: Massive Iron Axe is sold at the Old Port Authority in Booty Bay from the vendor Zanera Cromwind.

Both of these patterns are in limited supply. When i first went to Nessingwary's it was not in stock, so i ran to Booty Bay, bought the other one, and by the time i returned to Nessinwary's it was in stock.

It's the other way around- the axe is sold at nessingwary's, the sword in booty bay.

Though I've been waiting about an hour at the nessingwary camp.

I don't know where or if anyone in the game tells you, but you MUST talk to Myolor to get either specialty Blacksmith quest. Myolor is standing in the middle of the forge, on the same side of the Great Anvil but away from the blacksmith trainers.

Myolor will ask you to choose Armorsmith or Weaponsmith. Once you've chosen, the appropriate specialist next to the Great Anvil will offer you the quest.

Got the quest at level 50 and 250 blacksmith skill after having completed all the Gadgetzan Blacksmithing quests. Undoubtedly this is way more than is needed.

I am a blacksmith, level 235. I finally made all the required weapons for this quest, and when I went back to Ironus to turn them in, I couldn't complete the quest. Ironus has a yellow questionmark over his head as is usual when you've completed a quest, but the button at the bottom of the text box that says complete quest or whatever, is gray, not red, and it cannot be pushed. I am sure I made ALL the items, and they are all in my bags...why can't I complete the quest? Is there some other quest I have to do first? Anyone with ideas please help!

I hope you have a ton of cash left over after buying your mount. And I hope you save gems and stuff in your bank, because this is one damned expensive quest. In total, you need, aside from plans for the Massive Iron Axe and Moonsteel Broadsword:

32 Steel Bar
56 Mithril Bar
56 Iron Bar
16 Gold Bar
16 Strong Flux
16 Heavy Grinding Stone
4 Solid Grinding Stone
28 Heavy Leather
4 Thick Leather
12 Lesser Moonstone

You'll also have to have a bunch more, because you can't learn the Big Black Mace until 230 or so, and you get this quest at 200.
However, if it's true that you can actually buy the items and then hand them in, that makes the quest a whole lot easier... still expensive, though.

I would like to know if there is a Horde equivilant that does not require me dieing every five feet in Ironforge? I look at these quests and they are all centered on the Alliance are there no Horde equivilants?

You could buy all the weapons from the AH, but you will pay 3x the price to buy and make the items yourself. I bought a good portion of the materials to finish the quest from the AH and spent 20 gold on supplies.

i have all 4 plans to the 4 weapons to that quest

i've done this and learned the truesilver champion and phantom blade. but now what? it seems to me that there are far more quests for the armorsmith than the weaponsmith. plus no where on my character does it declare that i am a weaponsmith. what's missing?

Finished this quest at level 40 on my rogue. Was easy enough, just farmed all the minerals in Alterac, took a few days, but wasn't bad at all. Was easier to do it at night when no one else was farming. Got most of my gems there as well, only had to buy the black pearls at about 40s a piece.

So the best place for a lower level to farm this stuff is indeed in Alterac mts (Above Hillsbrad for those who don't know, average level of mobs: 35), and if you have a high level to escort you, Hinterlands is good for mithril although you can get the mithril in Alterac as well.
