The provided item (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=13752) is a 10-second targeted channel on Ras. The range is only about 30 yards, so you have to get lucky or have some way of avoiding his fears and knockbacks. If you're healing or tanking the run, make sure you have someone who can help tank/heal while you turn him human.

When the spell is finished, Ras becomes unattackable for a short time, then heals himself and becomes human. He still has the same spells and abilities, but you can now loot his head! (You keep the Soulbound Keepsake when you turn the quest in, but I'm not aware of anything that changes if you turn him human.)

Hey do you get the shield as a reward plus one of those other items? every site i got to has an "or" between all the items except the shield, so whats the deal?

theres this kind of bug i think cos i equipped the trinket and got the buff but as soon as i entered the scholomance building (not the instance) and went upstairs the buff wasnt there even tho i was wearing my trinket. so i go outside but the buff wouldnt come back =/

Simply chose one who uses the book on him (probably someone who isnt that important to group) and let the warrior tank. Spam Earthshock or Shieldbash or whatever to interrupt his fear.
After that kill him as usual and all partymembers can loot his head :)

It takes 20 seconds to channel the book to turn him into a human. 20 agonizingly long seconds, I might add.

Just completed it today, 5 man. He seems tougher as a human than as a lich ^_^

He screams: NO! THIS CANNOT BE! when you change him and is neutral for about 3 seconds.

Only got the knock back once while trying to change him but afterwards, look out!

Can someone more clearly explain this "Butcher quest series" that I hear so much about? I understand being able to see these ghostly citizens opens up a lot of things, this quest included, and would like to get it done. But I have yet to hear a good explanation of where to start this quest, what it is, and how to complete it in order to see the citizens. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Magistrate Marduke is no longer inside the building. When wearing the spectral essence, he can be found next to the wagon thats just outside and to the right of the entrance to Scholo.

One thing to remember when you turn him to a human, is that it heals him 100%. so... noone should waste too much mana on him until you do it. Looked like all his dots and debuffs are erased too, but can't be sure.

Ras moves around a lot anyways, so best bet is to let tank be only one with aggro, while someone else stands near and channels the book. Takes about 30 seconds. The range is short, so if a caster gets aggro, ras will go to them, and you'l have to start channelling again.

I finished the quest the other day and after turning it in and getting my new sword the book is still in my pack. Is it OK to just trash it, or do I need it for something else? I went into Scholo last night and tried to book on him again just to see if it would transform him into human again, but nothing happened this time. Anyone else tried it and had it work for them a second time? Thanks.

Can somebody explain exactly how to finish the quest one u cleared Ras's room off the mobs?
The reason why I am asking is, I tried to do the quest, and I failed to get the human head. We were a 5-man party spent 2 hrs to get to Ras. I was the main tank. I right clicked on the book and it said I was far away. Then I went closer to Ras and right clicked on the book. This time no message but I didn't see any channelling bar!. At the same time, Ras was walking in my direction and I aggroed him and the fight started. Thinking that everything was going okay, we took him down(but he was still in the undead form). At the end, he dropped few blue items but no human head!.
1. Can anyone tell me how exactly u turn him into human?
2. Can u turn him human before the fight?
3. Or should he loose certain % of health before he can be turned into human?

Please help.. I badly need the shield. I am a lvl 60 Warrior

To start this quest from front to back you need to do. The quests below are to assumed to be done as a 5 man group unless stated otherwise.

1. Doctor Theolen Krastinov, the Butcher to Eva's story just outside scholomance. Then you'll be able to get this quest. Kill the Butcher and break the hanging meat sacks in the butchers room. Return to Eva.

2. Krastinov's Bag of Horrors Janice. Loot the item on her body. Return to Eva.

3. Kirtonos the Herald are now given the blood of the innocents. Go back in and go to the Porch (the instance should still be cleared with the exception of the random patrols). Kill the gargoyle. Return to Eva.

Once completed you will recieve a trinket. This trinket will allow you to see ghosts around Scholomance. Head into Scholomance (not the instance just the castle) and turn right and go up the stairs. There you will find an open room with no roof. If you have the trinket equipped you will be able to talk to Magister Marduke.

4. The Human, Ras Frostwhisper to Stromgrade in Arathi Highlands. I believe you still need the trinket equipped in order to see the book. The book spawns randomly in this area. The book does not spawn in the tower or the castle. However, it will spawn in the houses on the upper floors where the fire places are and has the chance to spawn in any other fireplaces in the area (The burnt roofless houses in the area). Return to Magister Marduke once found.

5. The Dying, Ras Frostwhisper

Head to lights hope.

6. Menethil's Gift to Starthomle undead Side. As of 09/07/2005. This quest was 10 manable. You simply need to right click the pentagram on the floor of the Baron's Room after he has been slain.

7. Menethil's Gift to lights hope.

8. Soulbound Keepsake to Magister Marduke.

9. The Lich, Ras Frostwhisper Ras in Scholomance. Must be done 5 man. You'll need to turn him human. To do this you must channel for 10 seconds. Simply have someone tank him and the rest of the people who can do the channel, channel because after the transfomation he gets full health and he has effects that can interrupt the channel.

Well, a hunter might use the sword on a weapon swap. Every other class has something nice here.

This chain is awsome. I went to scholo only twice and got the hacker valor boots and helm. Then i also got the shield and 2h sword from this quest. Great loot that is so easy to get. BTW ras still drops his normal loot after you kill his naked human form.

if you do the questline that starts outside of scholomance it reveals the ghostly citizens of caer darrow a guy inside the keep of scholo gives you the quest he will be outside the instance in the building where the instance is.

Did this in a group with two hunters, as the main tank (pally).
"Send in the pets", then channel the book. Once he becomes human you can still use exorcism on him to regain aggro. Ras is a farm mob. If a group ever wants to skip him, you are missing out on some great caster loot.

for the ppl that has already done this last part of the quest, Ras will still drop the normal loot right ? :P or should i just forget to mention that to the rest of the group when i does this part of the quest ? ;)

read mykc's post further down, with all the links in it.
everything in there is correct and confirmed as of today,
EXCEPT that magistrate marduke now stands in front of the broken-down wagon a few feet away from eva. once you equip the trinket you can see him within a few seconds.
and if you've done scholo enough times to get to this quest, that cloth crown isn't as good as what you should have gotten already. i had magisters' mantle drop and it's better than that.
and you do get rep for AD for killing ras. just not for the quest turn-in.
and why drop the quest line just because the loot isn't good at the end! you get good xp for doing all of these, and you're going through scholo anyways.

Find Ras Frostwhisper in the Scholomance. When you have found him, use the Soulbound Keepsake on his undead visage. Should you succeed in reverting him to a mortal, strike him down and recover the Human Head of Ras Frostwhisper. Take the head back to Magistrate Marduke.

Use the power of the keepsake against the beast - be unrelenting in your actions! Weather the blows that the flailing beast will surely bring down upon you. Do not give in to the pain!

When the ritual is complete, Ras will be mortal once more. It is at that point that he must be slain. Strike him down and take his human head.
