Flames of Azel and Veraz are in the original cave of Yeti in Hillsbrad... Uzel is in Alteric Valley directly North of the original cave... If you picked up Frostmaine quest in Thunder Bluff kill the mtn lions in Hillsbrad to place the carcass on the Uzel flame, it will spawn Fostmaine (37) Yeti...easy kill...
Now on to the involved part...the grave for Southshore is near the river...watch out for the guards they will agro...when you do agro grards just run twards the grave stone...yes take the walk from Tauren Mill and res at your body...quickly click on the headstone and then run out at an NE angle from the stone...good luck ... I did it witout taking any sickness whatsoever... 35 Shaman Troll

i had so much trouble finding the grave in the beginning.
i think i died atleast 10 times trying to find that stupid grave. flames are easy to find though. it would be a good idea to take a high lvl friend with you to keep the guards off of you.

Some revenge...
It was more like a slaughter by the (now) level 65 Southshore guards when I completed the quest. The level 44 elite NPC that spawned, Helcular's Remains, could not even do any damage to the guards or the few level 42 Puppets of Helcular he summoned.
I died one second after quickly completing the quest from the guards which agro from a mile away.

This quest used to be cool before they increased the levels of the Southshore guards (I think they were level 45 before and the 44 elite could take on a few of them)

His grave is at 52,53. If you want to avoid conflict, come in on the river, his grave is the closest one to the river in the graveyard.

Jillu thanks for the comment I used your method and was not touched by the guards. The remains of Helcular came out and the guards didn't even attack him. I just hope some unsuspecting ally came by and was killed by him after I left. lol....

How do I get into the northern cave in Alterac? That cave is guarded by 2 elites of ?? level and 4 Southshore guards.

As from 18/3/07 (when i finished this quest most recently) Helcular raises from the grave, attacks one guard, gets the guard to like 90% then just disappears.

I also imagine that because the Tarren Mill guards are now level 45, the Southshore ones are aswell. This makes it easier to complete this quest as the guards will have a lower aggro range (i'm level 34 and got to the graveyard and completed the quest without getting any aggro). I also think they lowered the density of the guards around the graveyard.

The first two Flames, as said by everybody else, are in the cave with the yeti's you killed to get the rod in the first place. One is on the highest level to the right and one is in the cavern to the left once you hit the bottom of the ramp.

The second one is trickier. It's in a cave called "Growless Cave". Go up the valley just east of the previous cave. You'll stumble upon the alliance entrance to AV. (It's a cave with a portal and a few ?? NPCs). Go past it. Keep going north through another little valley. You'll hit snow soon. Go slightly west and you'll hit a cave occupied by 2 or 3 lvl 34ish Yeti.

Helculars Grave is not appart of the rows of graves as I expected it would be. It's actually closer to the river. Its good fun, it almost killed a lvl 32 pally that spirit ressed right next to him =).

Easily completed as a 29 hunter.

The most difficult part were the mobs at the Growless Cave. The first yeti was level 33, so I was able to take him down fairly easily. There are two mobs next to the flame. I sent my pet in on one, and body pulled the other, trapping him. I then immediately charged the rod, and skiddadled out of there while my pet held them. The same tactic should work for a warlock/voidwalker.

Other than that, the other two flames are easy as pie. When going to the cemetary, I had Track Humanoids up, and it couldn't have been easier. I kept my pet out just in case, but the guard didn't aggro on me.

I got nailed by two hidden assassins as I walked up, I used the VW while I did the quest, killed 1 and almost the other but had to flee at the last second across the river... :)

I activated Hulcular (lvl 44 Elite) at his grave in Southshore and he walked around a bit. Some Alliance gathered nearby and watched us. Some of them walked up a bit to get a closer look and Hulcular sprang to life and ran into the group starting a huge fight. All kinds of people from the town started to run up and a huge commotion started. They killed him and started for the graveyard to see where he came from. I slipped away into the river and up to Tarren Mill while they stood scratching their heads.
That was a very rewarding ending. :)

You have to try kiting the guards towards him, he'll attack them and take aggro and summon lots of skeletal minions. I killed almost every guard in the town and a bunch of people who came to help. Fantastic quest!

This is by far the "funniest" quest ever...

Ok. so i corpse jumped couple of times into southshore to his grave. Then i managed to click on his grave b4 the 4 lv50 guard killed me again. Then i watched this "powerful" demi-lich rise from the graveyard and swore vengeance on those pathetic humans. 30sec later, he got killed by those 4 guards who just killed me...

I've heard that he was overpowered in one of the earlier betas when he wiped out all southshore players and npcs, but does he have to be nerfed so badly? An acient powerful demi-lich can't take on 4 human town patrols? that's kinda pathetic. shoulda make him lv47elite rather than 42elite so he can at least kill couple lv50 guards but not the more important npcs like griffon master.

Actually you can do it without dieing (just did at level 32). Stand so you can see the grave (it'll be south of you) and watch the guard on the right. He'll wander away and you can run in real quick, hit the grave, complete quest button, and run east to cross the river to lose any guards on you. Hope that helps.

For anyone that's easily confused (like me), the location in the Hillsbrad Caverns for the Flame of Azel is on the top ring entering the cavern. The Flame of Veraz is in the cave to your left, coming down the ramp.

It took me a while to figure out that the Flame of Azel wasn't in the cave to the bottom right, heh.

Oh it was awsome after several deaths to those stupid SS gaurds I finally managed to raise him. He came up as a 44 elite, merh that was ok. But as he starts fighting he spawns minions! tons of clockwork things, lvl 42 mechnicals. At one point I saw almost a dozen of them! But it gets better, all those alliance who were ganking me not 15 minutes earlier fell to our attack (Helc's and mine) haahahahahah. Not so easy to gank a lvl 30 when hes got 10 lvl 40s and a 44 elite around is it punks? ROFL

Oh and for the last flame, if you exit the yeti cave and head north up into alteract mountains there will be a small zrea you enter called "Growless cave" if you look to your right you will see a cave, its a very small cave all it has is two yeti and the flame in there. Careful tho because these yeti are 33-34, unlike the ones down below.

The Southshore bit isn't too bad. Stand at the river and hover over the graves until you find the right one. Here's the key: stay out of aggro range and watch the pattern of guard movements. Wait until they're 2/3rd of the way to their outermost patrol and charge in and right click the grave... You'll get the standard 'complete quest' page. Click Continue->Complete fast!

Helcular will then rise and start killing alliance players... He won't kill the guards though so now's a good time to run away!

You might try testing running up to one of the (level 50) guards to see what your aggro radius is.

It's certainly not a boring quest!

The quest was funny enough to do, but after reading these comments I had expected him to do some crazy stuff, Helcular. Anyway, I walked into the graveyard, without ever being seen, placed the rod, Helcular raised and walked around on the graveyard. Expecting him to do something, I just followed him, but nothing happened at all. Then I chose to aggro a guard and see if Helcular would react - but eh, he never did. He just kept walking around while I got beaten up by the guard. Anyway, as I'm a mage, it isn't really a problem escaping the guards, so I ran from him.

No end actions, no skeletons, no nothing, just Helcular walking around the graveyard - that sucks.
It would've been waaay too nice to see him fight the guards.

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but maybe he only fight the SS guards on PvP realms?

- I read a comment by a mage that was unhappy with this quest, because he got killed. My comment to that: Play your darn class man! There is a reason why magi got Mana Shield and Blink, so use it for Gods sake! U can escape the guards so easy, just remembering to put on new Mana Shield every time the older one fades away after absorbing as much dmg as it can. And if u run out of mana, then use the Mana Agate u can conjure at that level.

Jeez!

The first 2 flames are in the Yeti Cave near the Hillsbrad Fields. (This cave is where most folks farm for the Rod in the first step.) NOTE: While most farm the Rod there...it "MAY" be a faster drop from the Yeti near the Growless Cave.

The last flame (Uzel) is in the Growless Cave. All ya do is head up the north road from Tarren Mill and hang a left as you begin to see the Ogres...stay on the left until you begin to see Yeti...the cave is right there. This cave is also where you battle Frostmaw.

Did this q solo as lvl 35 warlock. Not that hard. First locate the two fires in the Yeti cave west of Tarren Mill, one on the upper floor one on the lower, 'charge your rod' (insert your own gag). Then head north to the Growless Cave just over the border in Alterac. This is easier, just need to kill a couple of yeti to get to the fire (unguarded), charge the rod again.
Now the hard part - approach Southshore from the eastern side nearest the river behind the grassy bank. Use the Eye of Kilrogg (if Warlock) / invisibility to scout about if needed. The graveyard is poorly protected here, just one guard here in agro range. I used Voidwalker to attack the guard while i ran in and planted the rod in the grave, it is the most easterly grave there. Complete the q and run for it. Got killed by the guard on the way out, but job done. WARNING - when scouting about the guards have very long agro range, and can sprint faster than Mo Green.

about that...I resurrected the mighty lich king and...nothing. He yelled 'I am revived' or something like that and walked to the middle of the graveyard, very slowly, and then stopped. I was waiting to see this battle that everyone talks about, but no he continued to stand and do nothing. No one attacked him, or even came close. So I peaced that joint and as far as I know he's still standing there.

to get to his grave I just sacfrificed my void, clicked the grave, completed the quest, died, and then watched as Helcular and his minions were all killed by one SS guard. amazing.

if you don't need the EXP, I'd prob skip the quest.

Died about 7 times just trying to find his grave..when I realised I was standing on it.

He raised, a guard attacked me, he killed the guard, another guard attacked me, killed me, him, and his crappy little skeleton warrior.

Now we know why Helcular died in the first place ^^

The title says it all.
After countless corpse runs, with all armor in red, I finaly found his grave and then proceed to summon him. It turns out he is a level 44 elite, he just walks around the graveyard, nothing special. Anyway, I purposely agroed a guard to see some action, Helcular just stand there while I was being pounded into cinder right infront of him. I was totaly dissappointed.
Overall view, this quest can be quite frustrating if you have trouble finding his tombstone among all those lvl 50 guards.
Anyways, I logged out and got on my 60 mage, flew to South Shore and beat the hell out of Helcular.

If you have a high level main, this can be a great quest. Here's what I did...

Let your alt die at the grave, run back in ghost form (don't rez) and log out. Take your main and start attacking the guards by his grave. If it's prime time, there's a darn good chance a horde of lowbies will come after you. Let them kill you and log out while they /spit on your corpse. Log back in on your alt, rez, plant the rod and watch Helcular get his revenge ^_^v

While all the personal commentary, crying and braggardly machismo is indeed helpful, I thought I would leave a post that might actually offer some useful information. This is for both those who do not have Cosmos or Titan, and those who do. A post with the CORRECT coordinates that do not put you somewhere out in the ocean or in the middle of nowhere.

Flames of Azel and Veraz: Are in the Yeti Cave in Darrow Hill directly at the halfway point Southwest from Tarren Mill to Hillsbrad Fields.Coordinates for Cave location are 46,32. Azel is up to your right as your enter the cave. Veraz is down the curving ramp to the left and left through the tunnel. Yetis are levels 30-32 and easy to pull singularly.

Flame of Uzel: In the Growless Cave in Alterac Mountains. Coordinates are 37,68. Easiest way in is over the mountains to the east of the Yeti Cave between the Headland and Corrahn's Dagger at 42,77. May run into level 33 Mountain Lions but only one or two and none if you can stealth. This will put you out in the snow right in front of the Growless Cave entrance. Yetis there are levels 32-34. Easy to avoid the big ones. Exactly 4 Yetis to kill between you and the flame. Also the flame for the Lion's carcass quest.

For Helcular's Grave: Coordinates are approximately 52,52 and most easily approached from the river side at 54,53. Requires only one corpse jump. For those w/o coords. Come down the River from Tarren Mill and enter Southshore at the space between the cow pasture that sits on the "e" of Southshore and the second cliff on your world map. Don't rez at the Southshore Spirit Healer like SOME people tell you. It will only teleport you back to Tarren Mill with 10 minutes of rez sickness and bad armor. Run back, past your body to the other side of the cow pasture or as close as you can get. The grave will be right in front of you and you can safely rez in front of it.

The tombstone is the farthest one on the right/east side of the graveyard - closest to the river. ITS A STUPID QUEST AND SINCE PATCH 2.1, THE SOUTHSHORE GUARDS ARE NOW LEVEL 65! If you're in your level 30s or level 40s... you WILL AGGRO the guards from a mile away.

Good luck doing this. You will surely die atleast once... but more likely twice or three times. Even a level 60 rogue character in stealth still aggros the level 65 guards. Thank you very much Blizzard for making this a much more stupid quest than it already is.

Instead of actually doing 'revenge', once rezzed from the grave, he got owned by 1 guard. While he managed to summon a few undead demons to help him with his revenge, they STILL GOT OWNED by ONE Southshore guard. Such a disappointing quest. The title of this quest should've been HELCULAR'S EMBARRASSMENT.

I completed this last night and I must say that the reward for killing so many yetis was very poor. I didn't check what level the guards are (? I think), but I was able to walk up to the grave and plant the stick with no trouble. Helcular rises (44 Elite) and wanders around the graveyard. I watched for about 5 minutes but in that time he'd attracted no aggro from the guards. XP reward was good, but this is a bad quest chain and needs work from Blizzard.

Ok there seems to be a bunch of arrogant people on here.

1) The First Two Fire's are at Darrow Hill In the Yeti Cave. When You enter the cave make a right. go all the way in till you see a Green flame in a brazier. (Note: you will be killing Yeti's) Once you have that one Jump down the and enter the tunnel With the water in it. You will see on the other side the next Green flame brazier. You are now done with this Cave.

2) Next head over to Alterac Mountains. You should be in a snowy area and see lots of white Yeti's. their very small cave is known as the Growless cave. Enter that cave kill the 3 yeti's and Click on the Green Flame brazier.

You should now be done with the Flame Energizing part of that quest. Now head south and got to South shore but DO NOT ENTER TOWN. Go to the grave yard to the east of the town it should be pretty close to the stable area of South shore. Click on grave farthest from the rest of them. Once you see red letters from Helcular Remains that say "i have Risen", you need to leave. You have finished the quest and have Brought lots of alliance Attention to you.

This was the most fun quest I had done up until this point. I was killed the first time I tried to make the run but I did make sure that I died close enough to the grave that I could rez myself at the stone. After a quick rez I activated the grave and enjoyed watching Hecular kill guards and also other alliance people in the area.

One guy just used the Spirit healer and was killed immediately by Heculars pets. It was funny but at the same time I thought about how pissed I wouldve been if it had happened to me.

Fun quest and I'm doing it each time I bring a character up...

Honestly, I really didn't have any trouble with this. At level 31 (mage) the flames were easy (two are in the yeti cave in Hillsbrad and one is in the Growlless cave in Arathi). When it came to getting to the grave, I just took all my armour off and followed the river down from Tarren Mill. That took my right up next to the grave. I aggroed a guard and was killed. I ran back down from the graveyard, rezzed right next to the grave, got my quest, and hearthed. Piece of cake and I got a good chuck of XP for it as well.

I got all the way to the last part, but can't find the grave. I would love to know how to find a loc. I went down there as a 36 Shaman, and all the guards are ? meaning probably lvl 50+. Is this grave inside or outside the town? If inside... how in the world could this be a lvl 30's quest?

What i found to work (as I soloed this as a 34 Rogue) was to walk slowly up on the mound just north of the graveyard. You will be barely within a guards detection...so just run north when she comes and she will abandon you once you get out of her zone again. Get a good look at the area and find Helcular's stone. Run straight for it as the guards aggro and chase you, and expect to die. But get as close to the gravestone as you can when you die. When you return to your corpse, you should be able to respawn and click the stone without any problem. The stone itself is inside the guards detection zone.

I was able to do this in one try. The guards don't detect you when you are at the stone. Helcular came alive, then I could taunt guards and even a couple Alliance players that happened by...then Helcular would do the dirty work for me.

It was great fun watching Helcular take out a Paladin and NE Rogue.

I tried doing this quest tonight with a group of three, and while Bakamon's suggestions were invaluable, I have to think the quest has been changed, because completing the quest spawned Helcular's Remains, a 44 Elite, but not with any friends, and he wasn't the slightest bit interested in killing the guard or the level ? warrior who slaughtered me in about five seconds. Then I watched from my corpse as he, by himself, was killed by three guards and six Alliance PCs, so... yeah. I rez'd at the spirit healer in Tarren. Just a word of warning.

Everyone's already said how awful it is to get the rod to drop, so I'll skip griping about that.

As far as the graveyard goes and actually planting the rod, watch out because the guards have a HUGE agro radius. They saw me from so far away it was ridiculous. As a mage I ran in with mana shield up, guard killed that shield, popped up another mana shield and managed to find the grave and quickly click through the quest menu.

I then promptly died.

I just did the quest as a lvl 34 tauren shaman.

Finding the charges wasn't a problem, found 2 flames inside the cave where you found the rod and found the other one in Alterac Mountains in a cave north of the one where you found the other 2 flames.

When I went to helcular's grave, I had a problem finding it instead of placing it. His grave is found at 52,54. It is inside the graveyard of the alliance, on a outer corner to the east.

Just run in to the graveyard, if you die, it isn't a problem, just ressurect at the spot of the grave, if you have the option to ressurect there. Just click on the grave, no need to open it or something, just click on it and then press on complete quest.

For those of you confused, this is the Growless Cave - the same one you go to for the Frostmane quest.

Blizzard removed the two guards that patrolled near the river & graveyard - you can walk right up & plant the rod with no guard aggro IF you come from the river.

As far as Helcular goes, he's totally been nerfed. He used to wreak havoc all over Southshore, but the SS guards got a big buff (as opposed to the lousy lvl 45 TM guards...) and now he's almost completely a moot point.

Notes: Southshore is an Allinace outpost. It has Alliance guards, most at level 46. The grave IS located inside the guarded area. You WILL get PvP flagged if the guards attack you, and they will. The guards have a Huge agro range and run at approximately 2x speed. Plan accordingly.

Southshore can be reached by a road, south of the main cross zone highway. As you approach Southshore on the road, move off the road to the east. Get as close to the guard parameter as you can and look for a grave yard inside the guarded area. It is most easily found by looking for a very tall spike monument that is in the center of a grave yard. This grave yard Does Not contain Helcular's grave, but can be used as a reference. Just outside this grave yard, to the southeast, is a lone grave stone. This is the grave of Helcular. If you are close enough, your cursor will become a gear as you pass over it. (Do Not get confused by some of the grave stones that you are able to read with a magnifying glass icon.) To complete the quest, you must get to Helcular's grave stone, click on it, click the complete quest button, then escape.

The technique I finally worked out with my 35 hunter was to get as close as I could to the guards, wait till only one was in range, send my pet to get agro on this guard, run to the grave stone, click on it, complete the quest, then try to escape.

After clicking to complete the quest, a good number of "remains" will spawn and start attacking any guard in range. If you can get to this part alive, you will succeed in escaping. It was also quite fun and refreshing to watch these "remains" whoop on the guards that had been killing or chasing me off for an hour while I worked the quest out.

Another technique might be to from a group and pull the guards 1 at a time to clear the path to the grave stone. Or just run in and click on the stone and hope you have enough HP to survive till the "remains" spawn. Or a rogue could try to sneak in and click the stone. Or a speed enhanced druid might be able to run close to the guards and draw them off far enough for you to run to the stone and click on it. Just remember that the guards are level 46 and you will become PvP marked with this method.

Whatever method you use, luck to you...

Sticking the rod in the grave is tough, and Bakamon has a great post about doing it. Everything he said is correct. I tried it solo as a lvl 34 warrior, and survived rather easily. Here's how.

I followed the river to the east of Southshore. If you see the corn fields near a waterfall, you've gone to far south. The graveyard is actually at the northeast end of town, and Hecular's grave is in the southeast part of the graveyard, a little removed. The trick is to run up there as fast as possible and plant the rod. There is no built up time, so if you make it there you will probably succeed. Make sure you can see the right grave before you go rushing in there.

If you come from the north, there is a slight ridge along the river, and you can hug that ridge and prevent line of sight on the guards until you are right on the grave. Plant the rod and Hecular will spawn and take out the guards. Beware fighting the guards because you will get flagged and Southshore has a ton of alliance players always looking to PvP.

I died 3 times trying to complete that quest. The guards just come at you with a vengeance. Total cost for minimul gains, was 3 trips to the graveyard + the run back, and 40s to repair my equipment. All for him getting his butt kicked in like 2 seconds, 3300 xp, and a little reputation. Not even worth it.

This quest isn't too bad, obviously minus all the insanely easy to aggro gaurds. I died a few times, but once I was close enough I was able to quickly complete this quest, after which I died again but still could watch. The only sad thing was watching Helcular get the crap kicked out of him really fast. :(

The Eye of Kilrog will agro mobs, so use it to lead guards away from the path you're taking and towards wandering animals - that will give you enough time to run to the grave - be sure to have your void walker up for sacrafice (just in case).

Flame of Uzel is at "Growless Cave" which is at loc 38,69. Helcular's grave is at loc 52,53. After you place the rod there, Helcular will spawn with 5 of his friends and start beating the guards down.

I just finished this one. He spawned and walked around the GY but i din't see any of his minions....until i pulled a guard to him . He started spawning them and went to town. I was so happy to see a 37 pally ressurect in the graveyard and promptly get his but kicked. Very fun quest ending. 2 thumbs up

I did as a 34 druid and it was easy using stealth and just have to kill like 2 yetis at every flame. And at the grave I just used travel form and ran to the grave and clicked it and died, quest done.
Nice was that Helcular and friends killed a lvl 60 annoying dwarf warrior. :)

(Patch 1.6) As I was sneaking into the SS graveyard, a night elf spotted me and started hassling me with emotes. Guess she didn't realize what I was about to do - summoned Helcular and waved bye-bye. Stupid elf didn't even make it halfway out of the graveyard. When everyone came over to see the commotion, Helc and his boys killed a few more lowbies. Then when the
night elf rez'd at her body, he killed her again almost immediately! HA!

Tried to reach the stone in stealthed mode but the guards aggroed me from miles away. Ran to stone instead and died. Then i rez'ed next to it and finished the job. His minions managed to finish off a few alliance dudes but i got 3000 xp for the work.

The graveyard wasn't that bad. Here's what I did: I ran down the main street in town and yes, got killed. I came back and rezzed as close to the grave as possible. I had to do that twice to die right next to the grave. Then I came back, rezzed right at the grave, had enough time to open it, and got the heck out of there.

It's the only way because the guards are lvl ? and they come after you within seconds.

If you're not using Cosmos or some other UI which gives you location numbers, don't make the mistake of assuming the graveyard is INSIDE Southshore. It's to the NORTH of out.

Of course, maybe it's just me, but this quest sucks. After dying 4 times trying to FIND the damned site, I summoned Helcular, and he was swiftly dispatched by a bunch of 35-40 Alliance players. Oooh, how rivetting.

At least the experience was decent, but based on the other posts here, I frankly expected slaughter to follow this fellow.

this was pretty easy for the 3k+ xp that i got. did this when i was a 34 mage. i made it to the graveyard and died, then respawned there, clicked on the grave and all was good. i didnt aggro anybody until i started running away, i'm an alch tho, and had a swiftness pot ready and got out of there with only one death (blink helped too). i didnt see any assasins by the grave tho, like some ppl had mentioned. oh and i would suggest coming in to the graveyard from the northeast side, seems obvious, only 1 gaurd to pwn you^^

i did this as a lvl 32 warlock. i followed the river down towards the graveyard, sent my pet to get the aggro off the gaurd clicked the grave out popped a lvl 40 elite took all the aggro of my pet, i decided to watch him own the town but he couldnt even kill the 1st gaurd :( i escaped with out even loosing my pet :)

I can't even get to the CAVE.. There are constantly Alliance everywhere.. If anyone is on the BLACKROCK good luck with quest. I've spent about 2 gold in Repairs now cause of Ganking.

Just completed this quest with my 34 hunter. Based on past posts I was ready to sic my pet on those aggro crazy guards, click the tomb, and run away. But when I got within view of the grave, the guards were spaced out pretty far away from the grave. With the only one close to it stationed on a hill above the cemetary.
So I just ran in, clicked, and left with no problems at all.
Don't know if this was a fluke or possible Blizz actually fixed the problem with the aggro crazy guards.

32 Hunter, solo'd. I was confused by a few things so I'm gonna clarify for the nubs out there.

1- The Flame of Uzel is in the same cave as Frostmaw (quest), and you need it for the same quest. Once you're in the snowy part of Alterac Mountains, the cave is in the southwestern area.
2- The two other flames are, as aforementioned, in the same cave you got the rod from. One is at the top, when you enter you make a right. The other is on the bottom level in the area with the little pond.
3- To get to the headstone, just travel along the river from Tarren Mill to Southshore. Make a right and I think the grave is one of the ones that are closest to you, but you still have to go in a little ways. Just keep moving your mouse over the stones. I had zero trouble with the guards, and it was funny watching them die.

No matter how difficult the quest is, it's super fun watching all the Alliance players running unsuspectingly through their own graveyard, only to get killed in less than 10 seconds. The XP was a nice gift.

As a rogue this quest is pretty easy.

Starting from the river I used stealth until a guard noticed me. I unstealthed and ran for the grave. Once I was in range I hit vanish. That sends all the guards back. Click the stone finishing the quest and used sprint to get away.

As a none rogue you can probably do this with 1 death. A swiftness potion to get away might help, or a second death..it is a wow death after all :P

Let the guards kill you, run back, dont rez at your body....rez at THEIR graveyard (which contains the headstone to place the rod in) run to the headstone, right click and complete quest. you'll probably die shortly after, especially if you are in a PvP server. but it's a really ez 3k xp.

i have same coords as others. i ran into town and died then came back and res in gy. took a couple tries to be clr of aggro radius but whatever its done now. i walked out of there untouched by going east to river. i dunno if patrol had his head up ass or if it is open all the time but, give it a try.

Azul and Veraz are in the yeti at Darrow Hill. Enter the cave take first right for Azul. Then go around downhill and take first left to the cave with the pond at the back is the flame of Veraz. The flame of Uzel is in the Growless cave in the yeti snow area of Alterac. Entrance to Darrow Hill cave is at 42.95 not 46.32.

For those that are wondering, no when you place the wand it spawns just the necro. However if he stays alive and unagroed he'll walk about 15 feet and spawn 3 minions. in about 30-45 seconds more time he'll spawn 3 more. Never stuck around after that as the guards killed me but his pets were goin to town takin out the guards.

Just did this at 31. I hung out on the opposite shore, ran my eye up to get the pathing correct and ran to the grave. One guard chased me, and I sac'd the VW to give myself time. Helcular and his boys showed up and kicked some Human rear end.

After dying twice I finally managed to get him summoned. He spawns and started spawning minions. He got about 7 minions up and was still owned by a SINGLE South Shore guard.

If they are going to nerf the quests this much they should just remove them entirely. Most disappoint quest in the game.

when i did the quest there where 2 lvl 38 stealthed assasins nxt to his grave

1st attempt :I watched the gaurds and didnt get aggro, then when i got near his grave i suddenly got hit out of nowhere and 2 assasins where standing nxt to me

2nd attempt : I ressed nxt to the gravestone and clicked grave and completed, died of assasins and ressed at the spirit caller

Did this with my 32 Warlock.

I actually logged in with my 60 Shaman and cleared the guards in the area first (PvE server), then came back with my 'lock and hit the gravestone. Easy as pie! :)

Got 3300xp and 150 rep with Undercity. Not great for the difficulty (should be an elite quest), but not oo bad either, considering the technique used.

Summon him during a Horde raid on Southshore. It happened to me, was defending SS while it was being raided and a 60 rogue walks by, plants the thing, and Helcular and his minions start chasing all the low levels trying to help fight. As alliance, I know I shouldn't find this funny, but it was...it just was...

Got him to spawn no problem, stuck around to watch him pwn two lvl ~30s, then get aggroed by a guard who tore him (and about 18 of his minions, all told) apart and then got me.

Had high expectations, was disappointed...

Probably used to rule, then was nerfed because of crying whiners like everything else.

Well this is indeed not the best quest for rewards, BUT, I did get 200 xp and my reputation with Undercity increased by 90.

So all in all the quest is worth doing it is not hard, although I am a Rogue and used stealth ;)

If your a skinner or a miner this quest might be worth it. Sticking around the yeti caves for a while might be worth it. Exp, $$, leather if your a skinner. Iron,Mithiril,silver,gold viens if your a miner. Takes a while but at least you have a reason to be there.

By the time you are high enough level to avoid area aggro from the dozens of level 55 guards in the area, you will get no experience from this quest. Don't even bother with it.

Took a hell of a long time to get the rod and finally find the last flame, and then I had a hell of a time sneaking around to the grave. They put two level 37 Syndicate Rogues right next to the grave, so unless you have more than one person it's impossible at anything under level 35.

Add to the fact that if you DO have more than one person, you'll get hell from the many, MANY guards in the area.

Helcular jumps up and begins plodding to the town, saying how he'll crush everything there. Well, the 55 guards have other ideas. For me, he rezzed, walked around a bit, and then got raped by a single guard, along with five minions.

I'm sure this quest used to be awesome. I could just imagine the havoc this would have called down on those poor Alliance players doing quests in the town.

But the fact is, after the nerf to this quest, it's retarded. At level 43 (easy enough to solo) I got a whopping 230 experience points, plus 15 rep points with Undercity.

Bliz should either revamp this quest, remove guards, give some sort of awesome reward for the time involved (that rod is not an easy drop) or remove it entirely.

If you're thinking about doing it, don't bother. Just farm the Yetis for more stuff than this quest will ever give you.

I just finished the quest for the 2nd time, last time i did was about a month after game release.
And what a disappointment it was, first time Helcular was raised he screwed 6 guards and at least 10 lowbie allliance before more guards and 2 ? skull cons finished him and his 15 minions.
I really don't see why Blizzard would nerf such an awesome quest - 1 guard can finish him off in about 30 sec now.
Just 'cause allies whine about it doesn't mean it should be changed.
Oh well at least i still have the memories of seeing Southshore a complete mess filled me corpses and lowbies running around screaming for help.
Blizz either #1 nerf guards at SS to 40 or Revamp the quest. !one!1eleven!1

For Azel and Veraz - enter the cave and go up the ramp to your right for the first one, and then go down the ramp. When you get to the place where there are 2 directions you can go, go to the left.

Soloed as a 34 hunter without dying. Approach Southshore from the river, the tombstone is right at the edge of the graveyard. I did not see guards anywhere nearby.

The Flame of Azel and Flame of Veraz are found in the cave fronted by the Yeti and containing the Yeti that dropped the rod. As you enter the cave, it becomes a cavern. There are Cave Yeti and Ferocious Yeti inside the cave. Either can drop the rod I believe. Slightly in from the entrance is a split; one path going right to an upper level and one going left to a lower level. One of the flames can be seen from the split on the upper level. Only 3-4 Yeti need to be killed to reach the first flame and that passage ends near the flame.

The second flame is on the lower level and a goodly number of Yeti block the way. They are spaced well and quite easy to single pull and eliminate. There is even a chest spawn on the way to the the lower level flame and the respawn rate of the Yeti in the cavern is reasonable enough to reach the lower flame then make it most of the way out before having to fight again.

As you reach the flames, you will get a "gear" icon. Click and you will aquire that flame on your rod.

The third flame is located in another cave found north of the Yeti cave. Facing the Yeti cave from the outside, you will see a valley headed north and up. As you follow this valley higher, you will find snow covered ground. Upon reaching the top, you will notice White Yeti spawns to the left. Head NorthWest from here across the snow field killing Yeti as required. You should notice a cave against the far hillside to the north. This cave is quite small, containing only 3 Yeti, a short tunnel to a single room. The Flame of Uzel is in this room. Click on it to finish this part of the quest.

I don't know if there was a nerf at some point with this quest, but the level 44 (elite) mob that spawns when you complete this quest is a joke. A single SS guard beat the crap outta him. Add to that the fact that I died 4 times trying to complete this quest, and it makes this one of the worst quests I've ever done.

They should remove this quest completely, total waste of time, even when you die you can't rez at Southshore graveyard anyway, they move you back to Tarren Mill. When all guards surrounding it are level ? and the mob is so weak, even in other games you have a chance to survive, this one deliberately makes you die, no point at all!

Cause I just finished the quest and he didnt even spawn. I remember doing it long ago when he would reek havoc on southshore. I guess the allies cried about the mob killing to many things.

A word of warning to those doing this quest now. I did this quest on March 18th, 2005 and at that point there were two Shadowy Assassins from the syndicate camping Helcular's grave. As soon as I reached the grave (with a guard hot on my heels) they unstealthed and killed me. I was able to raise helcular before i died, so when i went back i figured i'd be safe. Wrong. He ignored the assassins, so when I ressurected they unstealthed and killed me again. So, be careful! These assassins pretty much ruined the quest for me, as i didn't get to see the results.

Rod dropped from Ice Yeti. 20th or so kill. The brownie yeti's; easy kills. Everything charged. When heading towards The Southshore graveyard, before a guard sees you, lesser invisability potion to the center of graveyard. No one will spot you (unless there are alliance there) and pop the Rod into the ground.

Didn't die once. 35 Frost Mage.

You have got to be kidding me, all the headstones look alike, which rounded top one?

The guards aggro range is huge, very huge, super very huge.

I finaly found that his headstone is closer to 52,53.

Not a lot of action after he spawns, the guards pretty much take him and his puppets out.

If you want the 3300 exp the quest is not too bad. There are much better quests with a better time/effort investment for the payoff.

When you go to the graveyard you will die. Two to three guards patrol within aggo range of the headstone. All of them are skulls to a 32nd lock, probably level 50+

I finished this today, while clearing out some grey quests. I loved it. He spawned and right away summoned his puppets. Then went to town on 4 unsuspecting alliance standing near the graveyard. I was enjoying the show until a ? dwarf hunter came along and killed poor Helcular.

Out of any of the quests I've done in WoW this has to be one of my favorites. I have 2 lvl 60 alliance chars but rolled a shaman and did this one. I laughed so hard when Helcular spawned and started giving all the players in SS the beats. Enjoy the hand in when you do it, and train everybody. Its a blast.

If you approach the graveyard from the river, you will notice an indentation in the ground with some large trees blocking your view. Go past these trees, come out of the depression, and the first gravestone in front of you is Helcular's (dark grey, rounded top).
If you look around, there are no guards close by. so you are able to 'open' the grave, Accept and complete the quest, and stand back and watch the fun as Helcular and his minions begin killing Alliance.

A sad note however, since the patch which beefed up town guards, I noticed a single guard took out Helcular and 7 minions. Sad, really.

Helcular's Grave is located on the far east side of the graveyard at loc 52,53. It's the short stubby one with the rounded top.

This quest is no fun now. Helcular's Remains spawned and just wandered around not aggroing anything. A high level human mage came by and killed him. Dumb. Not like it used to be.

As a 31 rogue I figured I could get in and out of Southshore fairly easily, but the 55th level guards saw through my stealth from a crazy range.
Your best bet is to just run up to the grave and click on it. There's no delay to interect with the grave, and if your quest options are set to immediately display quest dialog, you'll be able to accept the quest completion message quickly.
Someone called this quest stupid, but I got great XP killing yetis and 3300 xp just for clicking on a grave -- I think the stupidity is in not appreciating the value of easy xp.

waste of time. you could get more xp in battlegrounds, losing every time, and cashing in with that. you have to keep rezzing, and you cannot at the southshore graveyard, it just rezzes you at tarren mill. save yourself the time, don't do it. unless you're a high level and can survive like 4 guards at a time. as a level 33, you just keep dying.

Found it easy to find the gravestone, maybe it has got bigger. No problem getting to the grave. Having read the previous posts I thought I would have a bit of fun and pulled one of the guards towards Helcular to see him in action. Big mistake! He totally ignored the guard and I was very nearly pwned! He must have changed his disposition recently. Moral of the story is just get in and straight out with no hanging around!

The tip to this, is to walk where the mountain slope is, and sneak from that way (from the river)

the way to do is to hit one guard that's away from the town. then run back like 10 feet to hecular. he starts attacking and then spawns minions to rampage. but unfortunetly, anyone can kill him, but it still funny.

Soloed by L31 rogue.

Fought my way to the first flame, then snuck close to the second flame. Abit of info, if you stand in the water you can reach the flame, charge the rod, and never aggro ANYTHING. I got to the second flame without a single fight. The third fight was abit of a problem with all the mobs being 33-34. I managed to kill two white yetis inside the cave with use of tactics, and sapped the higher level yeti long enough to charge the rod and run to southshore. Making it past the guards wasn't too difficult, just be careful.

glad i looked up this quest before wasting my time. rod drop from yeti is EXTREMELY RARE and hard to camp on a pvp server, id do it anyway, if there was at least SOME kind of reward. after looking up chain, and finding nothing at end, not even some silver, whats the point? im really not this desperate for exp. im not even going to imagine trying to summon the guy on pvp. gunna be corpse camped by skull cons if i go anywhere near SS. the other posts also suggest that he can't even take on a single guard. whats with this big build up and suspense for "revenge", just to have the guy raped for a single guard? he needs to buffed up so he can at least take a couple before dieing so easily. as for the newbs, if they are stupid enough to attack hostile skull cons, they deserve it, the other post is probabaly right about it getting nerfed from whiners, thats what happens to everything else.

Well I just tried this quest as a 32 mage. Not only did I pull 3 guards when running to the grave but it appears there are 2 stealthed "Shadowy assasins" guarding the grave. And they are lv 38. This quest is not worth the trouble.

PS the guards are lv 65 with 2.0, so their aggro range is even bigger now.

I have the charges on the rod. All of those are listed as complete. I ran in and got smoked in SouthShore. I was dead in the graveyard and was looking for the headstone I need to use.

Which headstone is it? I just kept getting smoked when ever I would rez. How do I get the rod into the headstone?

I see on right in front of the spirit healer that has a flower by it but I could not use the rod on it. I could only read the headstone (in loving memory) or something to that. Am I in the right area? What am I doing wrong?

Someone suggested that you can die anywhere, and rather than rez at Tarren Mill, you can rez at the southshore graveyard.

Well, it's true that the spirit at Southshore grave will rez you, but you rez in Tarren Mill anyway. So now I have rez disease, about 50s damage to my gear, and I'm nowhere nearer completing this mission.

he managed to take down about 3 30(ish) alliance players before the guards swarmed him, i was dead but I didn't rez just so I could watch. Watching those players run around trying not to die made this quest worth it for me ;)

The graveyard in Southshore is on the east side, by the river. Just follow the river down until you see the spire descrided in the other posts.

Watch out for guards, if you pick one up, try to outrun them.

Hecular's Grave is the eastmost grave in the yard; the one closest to the river.

Best way is to run in, right click on the grave and hit complete twice quickly.

You will probably die (I did three times before I completed it), but it will complete the quest.

Hang around and watch the show as Hecular extracts revenge for you on the guards.

Acutally this is not hard at all. After charging the rod with the flames approach the grave from the river. There is only a torties in the water. When you get to Southsore go to almost where the river ends and look right. YOu should see a gray box like thing. Run your mouse cursor over it to make sure you are right if you are it will turn to the standard gear symbol. When I did this quest at 11:08PM I had NO GUARDS AT ALL TO DEAL WITH! The only way you can get argroed by the guards is if you go to far down the river. Basically if you have passed the cow fence with cows you have gone to far. The grave you need is to right of the cow pasture. Remeber IF YOU PASS THE COW PASTURE YOU HAVE GONE TO FAR!Also I used a soul stone just in case anyone aggroed me. The only way I died was because I got ganked. If you do this quest as I said you shouldn't have a problem.

The Jack-off at blizz who thought this one up needs to be beaten upside the head. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME, there are many other easier, more rewarding quest you can so instead...of course, seeing a couple unsuspecting allies get jacked is pretty funny.

Don't drop this if you can bring a friend to help. Completed at level 36, 3300XP. Worth it to us.

With the extreme guard aggro you won't be able to stick around to see the ending, but it can be done. No high level help required.

The graveyard is near the river on the east side of Southshore. From the slight foothills near the river you can see the gravestone. It is on the edge of the cemetery, near the farm field.

The guard aggro for our level was huge. Lvl 36 warrior and lvl 36 warlock. No other help. We used the aggro to our advantage.

Only one guard patrols between the cemetery and the farm field. The warrior approached to gain aggro from the guard. As soon as you can verify you have his attention - RUN. Straight line NE along the river bank worked for me. As you run, the other player (warlock) runs up to the gave right past the chase taking place. No other guards are in aggro range of the gravesite if approached from the river. The warlock completed quest quickly, about the same time the warrior gets away and the guard returns.

Don't stop there! As the guard returns, chase him back. The warlock still standing in the aggro range will get his attention again. Warlock now runs and while taking just a couple of shots, (me) the warrior heads to the grave to turn in the quest. Warlock gets away, NE up the same riverbank, and warrior passes the guard returning from the chase no worse for the experience.

Both players quest completed at level 36. If you fight, you die. But definitely doable.

Flame of Azel and Veraz are in the Yeti Cave at 46, 31 in Hillsbrad. Flame of Uzel is in the Growlless cave in Alterac, 38, 66.

Did this as a 29 Hunter, took me all of 5 minutes to get all the charges on the staff thingy and the graveyard was the easiest part. Lvld me to 30 ^_^

As the last guy said, run up the river until you see the cow field in Southshore to the left. Directly before it if you run your mouse over the gravestone you can barely see it should tell you it is his grave. Run up really quick and complete the quest. I heard this used to be a pretty funny result, as he would go around and just kill the whole f'n town, but he just sits in the graveyard and kills any gaurd that comes it.... So I made sure to at least lure a couple in with my ranged weapons :D

Yes, the grave you need to turn this quest in is indeed located in alliance town graveyard.

How to turn quest in for everyone.
Get as near as possible, die, return as a ghost and spawn on top of the grave.

It's possible to survive as a class with a pet. Send you pet/summon to attack guard as far as you can target them. Then try to run for the grave.
Also for Warlock the Eye of Kilrogg is very useful spell as it moves fast, the guards will aggro it and it will leave you your main summon to get out safely.

If you're trying to do this on the new Classic Wow, the river approach doesn't work. The guards will always agro you, no matter how you approach the graveyard.

Instead you just have to run into the graveyard and die, then corpse run back and do it quickly before the guards kill you again. Try to die as close as the gravestone as you can.

This quest is not doable without dying.

Beware the quest turn in location has elite guards which I aggroed, lucky for me after I was able to turn in the quest. But died twice trying to get away from the guards and alliance players who see a target.

The quest turn in is in the middle of South Shore in a graveyard.

As Horde you will have to die to get there.

Before you turn in the quest, take off all your gear and approach South Shore from the back. Run as close as you can to the tombstone. When you inevitably die, run back to your body and resurrect directly on the tombstone. You should be safe turning in the quest. Now good luck making your way out. :)

Guards are lvl 55, around 3.7k hp. Get a lvl 60 to help killing 2, then you can avoid dying from getting to the grave.

I agree with the WoW Classic comments that say you cannot finish this quest without dying. I tried multiple approach angles without success, the guards aggro from quite a distance. My advice is get 2 swiftness potions, which I had gotten from a quest reward. I stared acrossed the river lined up to run past the north side of the cow pen. As soon as you hear the aggro, pop 1st potion, this will get you to the grave so you will die right on it. Run back, rez, turn in quest, then make a break for it. If you get aggro, pop 2nd potion. If lucky, you will escape, and if not, you will at least get far enough away to safely rez. Most importantly, take off all your items that will suffer durability loss from dying. You will die at least once, likely twice. If a guard catches you, you're toast anyway, so might as well save the repair cost.

the only way to reach the grave without dying as a horde is to start from 55.69 51.48 and move your way as a diagonal towards the questionmark. if you go too left or too right from that diagonal line you will aggro ? guards and die :)

I found the directions given elsewhere a bit confusing. So here is my take on it.

Come down the east side of the river towards Southshore. If you look at the map you will see 2 humps on the map representing hills. You want to be just north of those humps and by the river. If you turn around and look east there are 2 hills with a little valley between them.

Look west across the river. You will see 3 pine trees to the left of a hill. NOT those trees. Turn a little more to your left and you can see 3 more pine trees standing in front of a little ridge. Run straight between the middle and left tree. As you come up the ridge turn a little bit to the left and the first gravestone is the one you want.

Click it, complete the quest (2 more clicks) turn around and run back out the same way you came in.

Or if you're like me, die twice before you get it right

When seconds count, it's nice to have accurate coordinates.

The grave is at exactly 52.76 - 53.37. Run in from the river side and take the death.

I came in on a 53 - 53 heading and died too far from the grave to rez close enough to finish the quest before being killed again.

Also, the liche rezzed and just ignored all the guards so no help from him getting out.

As someone else has pointed out, the Sneaky McRiverside approach doesn't work in Classic even though it worked althrough vanilla (because "no changes") BUT there is a way to complete it without dying.

First, you need an addon that automatically turns in quests. I use Leatrix. Second, some luck.

As long as only one guard aggroes you and you can get to the stone and turn in it without dying, Helcular will spawn and attack the guard you aggroed. He takes a while to die so you have plenty of time to run away at that point. Movement/defensive cooldowns help of course.

Walking along the East shore of the River, you should be able to get close enough to see where the ? is. As a Hunter it's easiest to see where the gap in the guards is with Track Humanoids, and sneak in to click the grave without getting shot at.

As others have noted get leatrix plus for classic. When you do the normal run or graveyard run and click on the grave it will autohand in.

Got killed and just rezzed at the yard taking the hit. Tried numerous times to run back and rez again but the guards nail you again every time. Also they did something to helcular now he does aggro some guards but hes not the berzerking beast he once was in vanilla...
