Go to 24,16 and kill - kill - kill for these!!
Drop isnt the worst but the re-spawn is good so it shouldnt take long...Finished this as a 36 Tauren Hunter with Gorilla pet (Kong)
Had a 37 human Warior (Malol) getting in the way but it was good drops for all..
Oh and if you dont have coords its on the western shore..

One of the good things about Kurzen's Compound is that it's much more out of the way, and on a PvP server you get ganked there a LOT less. If you're horde beware of the Alliance base a little north of there. Stick to staying on the mountain.

It may take a while to get these, but it's worth it as you'll get good vendor trash and Crystal Basilisk Spines.

The drop rate on these used to be terrible as I recall. I think I picked them up ~75% of kills today.

Drop rate was about 60% with the Thrashtail Basilisks when I attempted this quest today. Drops pretty decent vendor quests, go with empty bags.

I went to 24,16 to kill these guys....both drop rate and spawn rate were great.....I got the 10 shards in 11 kills....that is just about a 91% drop rate.

Looks like they really upped the drop rate lately, I just got my 10 in the first 10 kills. Also worth noting: you can avoid their "crystal gaze" spell by jumping about 5 yards away.

Found quite a few at the whereabouts of 24,17. These Singing Blue Shards drop off Crystal Spine Basilisks and not Saltwater Crocolisks.

The drop rate is pretty good, got my first one only after 4 kills but got the shards from practically every kill from them on. Had to kill 15 to get all 10 shards.

Excellent Drops, 10/10, i got them at 24,16 along the shore. Easy quest, completed it as a 36 mage.

Go a few steps to north from Gurubash Arena staying on road. Walk into the woods - on the left side of the road near woods you can find level 39-40 Cold Eye Basilisks, on the right side of the road you can find level 41-42 Thrashtail Basilisks, both drop crysals drop rate for me around 25-33%.

The man had it right. There are about 8 or 9 of them (34 & 35) in a bunch of foothills East Northeast of Kurzan's. If you have a little patience, they respawn quickly enough so that you can just stick around there, harvesting them when they reappear, without having to mess with the Kurzan people, random tigers and whatever those ?-level guards are, hanging around the ruins nearby.

It took me about three passes, or about 24-27 (lost count) to get the 10 quest items. The basilisks dropped other stuff that was worth about 25-30S and since I'm a skinner, I made out like a bandit for about another 30-40S.

The whole thing took me about 45 minutes. A relaxing, profitable quest. I wish more were like this.

The hint about farming the foothills east/northeast of Kurzan's compound worked for me. Map coordinates around 48,7. Theres a curved strip of foothills to work in. I headed east and circled south of the compound the then headed north when I was past it. Be careful not to go too far east as there's another camp with level ? MOBs. The basilisks there are about lvl 33-35 and the drop rate seemed to be about 20%. Took about 45 minutes to collect all 10. I wouldn't recommend a group or at least not more than a group of two so long as you are level 35 or so. Otherwise, it will take a long time for everyone in the party to collect theirs. I probably made 5-6 passes over the area.

Best Coordinates for this quest are 48,9. The Basaliks are lvl 34, and spawn often and drop the Shards needed. It takes about 20 minutes.

thought you were wrong but there are paths up that rock face to the east of the village. before i got to the top a basilisk hit me. shard on the 1st kill. Hope the rest go this fast!

There seems to be 2 places after reading all the helpful comments

1] 23,18-27,18 along the shore which are lvl 34-35 ....... for the 1st quest "Singing Blue Shards"

and

2] 48,10 at the mine which are lvl 41-43 ..... for the quest "Venture Company Mining" which you can get after completing the 1st one.

It is a coast just at the other side of grom gol camp across the little part of sea!
There you have about 15 cold eyed basilisks that have a very nice droprate!
I done the quest in 15 minutes.
Just go up and down the coast and you get them all

I'm currently at 43,10 killing the level 34/35 Crystal Spine ones.

If you're coming from the Rebel Camp, just go straight through the Kurzen Compound and it's on a rise.

There aren't many of them and given that I'm slicing through them in a couple of hits each (I'm a level 37 Feral Druid and it seriously simple)... I'm having to hang around.

The drop rate is about 25%, and 25% of the time they drop nothing at all. Leather on these guys is fairly good. If you're having to kill about 30-40 to get the crystals, you'll get a lot of leather.

There are a few herbs and a mine up here as well just when you get bored.

One complaint: They tend to go crazy with Crystal Glaze which stuns for about 5 seconds.
But overall, for mobs of 34/35, they're very easy.

Going to try another area out => 28.39
I'll post how that is in comparison....

Okay, ended up getting last 2 crystals with ease so not going to 28,39.

Got a fair deal of XP here. About 400XP each (if rested).

Did quest as a 36 UD priest.

Walked out of Grom'gol Base Camp onto the beach, wandered north past some crocs, past a small ruin with some 33 and 34 bloodscalp mobs and then to the 34 and 35 Crystal Spine Basilisks, (the run took 30 seconds maybee, it is quite close.)

i went to 47, 9 like one of the previous posters said and i got rampaged by the mobs at kurzens compound. so be careful peeps. i found the basilisks up on the hill. happy hunting =)

i found a butload of lvl 34-35 basilisks at 23,17 .... none of these other locs were worth the time traveling to . spawns are fast and theres like 10 runnin around this area .

If u can stop a basilisk from using its (Crystal Gaze) the drop rate becomes much higher and becomes easier to farm. Also, Basilisks north of Hunters Camp are only Lvl. 32 and i did this as a 31. After 8 kills i had 4 shards. Drop rate went WAYYY UP!

I only had to kill 11 of them to get the 10 shards, so either the drop rate has gone way up, or I'm really lucky.

I found them in the area of 25,18.

I started on the savage coast at abiyt 4:45 and finished at 4:52 the drop rate was awsome 100% every kill had a drop of the shards i was at 25,19 on the coast amazing and eazy quest lvl 34 hunter

Luck.....I dont think so i just killed lvl 39,lvl 40 cold eye basilisks with my lvl 38 warrior and I got all 10 in 11 kills only one didnt drop anything. i suggest killing them i cant believe some idiots actually killed like 40 of those other things wow........

This quest is meant to be done in the area of 26, 18. There seems to be other places people have found the Crystals, but only by killing lvl 40 or so mobs. The quest is a lvl 35 quest, so that wouldn't make sense. But at 26, 18 the mobs are 34-35 and the drop rate is very high. They're on the cliffs just above the beach, called Crystal Spine Basilisks.

Be prepared to battle for mobs on this one. Everyone and their dog is fighting to get basilisk's on that cliff...the drop rate sucks so you have to be there for some time.

It started out great for me, after the first two kills, every kill dropped one. Now, I have been killing them for an hour (leveled up to 34) and still haven't gotten number ten.

For those using cords you can find the cave at 40,49. The shards drop off lvl 41-44 ish Basillisk.

If you don't need to go into the cave, then stay out of it. The basilisks that are outside of the cave are lvl 41-42, and are much easier to kill. They drop the crystals at a decent rate, and the spawns are spread out well enough that you will rarely get an add.

You can go into the caves, but the basilisks there are mostly 43-44, and they are often on top of each other. Not a fun time, especially solo.

As of this date, an excellent location is starting on the road at 39,41 and going West up the valley. Lots of Baselisks and almost 100% drop rate for me when I did it.

East of Kurzen's Compound up in the mountainy area there are lvl 34-35 spawns. Drop rate of about 1:5 location is (45,5). Just keep runing along the mountain wall as they spawn over a wide distance.

the easiest way to get them is to go all the way north to Zul Kanda... south of there on the shore... u can find them from lvl 33-35 about every secound one drops the item

Just did this one...took me 39 kills to get the 10 drops...turns out to be the 25% it said, but it sure doesn't feel like it.

The first 23 only gave me 3 drops, but I made a killing from skinning them.

It's on the shore of a beach, keep going north until you see the Crystal Spine Crosolicks (Or w/e they are called) You will see about 3-4 there. Climb the grassy wall to your right, there are more up there.

Okay I have the secret for this quest. You have to wait for respawn, takes about 20 minutes total, but you will get a shard every time. Standing at Nesingwary's looking out at the broken down dock you will see crockolisks on the opposite shore. At 33,6 there are three Stone Maw Basilisk that respawn and the drop rate is 100%. One is at 33,6 exactly, one is in a clearing south and one is a little farther south behind a tree. There is also a mine that respawns at 33,6 (first tin, then silver, then tin). A young panther and young tiger also respawn near the farthest south basilisk so you can work on those while you wait for the basilisk to respawn. The basilisk are level 30, 31 and 32. Be careful crossing the river b/c of crocolisks and frenzied fish.

I found a lot of basalisks on the little cliff thing next to the shore. There were tons of them there, and not to many on the beach itself. Hope that helps! :D
My drop rate was 45%, so that wasn't so bad!

I got mine just east of the Kurzen's Compound on the mountainous ridge. They're level 34-35 and there's not many people there, too. You may also find a few iron and gold ore veins while you're there.

North of the crystal vein mine, on a small ridge, are a bunch of venture co miners and stuff. They drop the crystals nearly all the time.

Strangely, I was swimming out of Stranglethorne into Duskwood, crawled up on the shore and there a bunch were. Dropped every time on every kill in that location.

Shards not dropping?

As a slow weapon Paladin I started backing away from the Basilisks to avoid their stun spell. However, I noticed I also stopped getting anymore Singing Blue Shards. The next four kills I allowed my character to get stunned. Four shards in a row and I was done.

Read all the comments here so tried several different types of Basilisk - doesn't seem to be any difference in drop rates - all equally abysmal!

I've cleared out the Basilisks in the 23,16 area several times now and only 3 crystals have dropped, to add the the 2 I got from the other basilisks further south. Lots of low level leather and basilisk junk but not a lot else!

It's the Crystal Spine Basilisks which drop the item. You can find them north west of Grom Gol Base Camp, just a little bit north-west. When you reach the peninsula that leads to an island just south of it, you know your are are the right spot. There are Saltwater Crocolisks too around here but ignore them. You can find the basilisiks also on the higher level of the hill.

The Singing Crystals are unique to Stranglethorn, and are very valuable to certain parties. I can move those crystals, but the cursed Venture Company makes it hard for an honest entrepreneur like myself to gather any!

I'd like to hire you.

The basilisks in Stranglethorn eat the crystal. This gives them their hardened skin, and sometimes decent quality crystal can be harvested from it.

You can get it from any basilisk, but the less nasty ones are along the shores south of Zul'Kunda, to the north.
