If you're powerleveling cooking I suggest buying these on the AH, they're usually not very expensive. If there are no eggs on the AH - go farm them in Owl Wing Thicket in Winterspring. After a few hours I have about 220 Eggs :X

At the time of completing this quest I was a level 50 warrior. After minor deliberations concerning time and level efficiency, I determined the following mobs and path was best for someone of the mentioned level to complete this quest...

At this point you can continue your short flight to Gadgetzan to complete your quest. This was mearly my method. I found this method to be very time and cost efficient for my level. While considering this, there are far more possibilities of completing this quest. I recommend everyone take a few minutes to ponder the best route for your solution to this quest.

you can kill mobs in tanaris for the eggs and clam meat. the rate is about 40% but that beats flying to hinterlands or felwood. dont know why it would be suggested to do that.

For the eggs, I just go grab them from the Roks in Tanaris. They're already there, have a decent drop rate, and are pretty much everywhere. You're already in the zone, so why not?

In Feralas you can get a quest called "Testing the Vessel" and for this quest, you have to hunt those Wildkin in the Hinterlands. If you get this cooking quest as well, you can knock out two birds with one stone.

Another place for Zesty Clam Meat is the Swamp of Sorrows, on the coast. All of the murlocs drop clam shells, which you open and loot for Zesty Clam Meat. The murlocs drop them frequently too, so you can farm 10 in no time.

Kill turtles on the East Coast for the Clam meat. BTW, you have to loot clams off the turtles and open them to get the clam meat.

Zesty Meat can easily be gotten from the loch ness type mobs around the npc that gives the artisan fishing quest at Theramore Isle, a bunch of tiny islands west of the isle, they range from level 39 to 43 (young whataretheycalled drop the shells less frequently than the higher ones, got me 10 in no time and 3 to spare for something else)

done @ lvl 37. bought the clam meat and eggs from auction house. bought the alterac swiss from the cheese shop in stormwind. went to gadgetzan. voila!

Completed the quest on May 15th with no problems. I did start cooking right after my cap was raised.
The Naga near Feathermoon Stronghold drop the clam meat. I ended up buying mine in the AH for a few silver. Got 10 of eggs from Owlbeasts in Hinterlands, purchased the other 2 at AH to save a trip back out there. Chesse is available in SW city at the cheese shop in the trade district (one road over from the gryp). Found later that Bartender in Windhammer Keep (Hinterlands) sells it also

45,38 in Tanaris. Lots of fire rocs spawn around the bones in this area.
For those of you without coordinates, the area is around Abyssal Sands - south of Gadgetzan.

There may be a way to prevent the cooking skill bug from happening. This is based on the following observation: When I first handed the quest in to Dirge, I checked my skills page and cooking said 225/300. The cap had gone up. I then hearthed back to IF to gather ingredients from the bank and cook there. When I began cooking at the Bronze kettle I noticed that my skill level was not increasing. When I checked my skills again it was re-capped at 225/225.

So try the following: When you first get the skill cap increase at quest hand-in, gather ingredients from the bank at Gadgetzan if you need to, but just in case I would have a few ingredients on hand at quest turn-in. Go to the nearest cooking fire to skill up at least a few skill points right away. This may prevent the cap from returning to 225 (can't say 228/225 for instance). I am kicking myself for not having tried this, as at the time the thought crossed my mind, but then I thought: the cap has increased! Surely it can't go revert to 225! Well, news flash: it can.

Try this and let me know if this helps!

Had to kill about 50 owlbeasts to get 12 eggs, not thereatest drop rate, and it was better on the 44-45 Primitives than on the 42-44 viscous ones.

Did get 3 green drops thou, and tons of vendor crap :p

Just to straighten things up: The cheese can be bought from any innkeeper in a just fairly high level area (Elwynn forest and such won't sell it), and this cheese also loots from all high-end humanoids and in huge amounts from supply crates in stratholme (but that may just be a little too high level). Oh and clams will drop from any like 35+ sea based mobs (nagas, turtles, murlocs etc.). And at last the eggs will loot from all mobs with feathers that are 20+ or something.

I realize that by saying what I am going to say.. many of you are gonna trash me and tell me Im a worthless player cause I had a hard time at this quest...

Here are the facts!
I just turned level 40 hunter. My pet is still a level 39 which means he doesnt have growl 6 yet. I am sure growl 6 would help since my cat cant keep the aggro off me. Hinterlands is not a place I should be. Everything here is lvl 42 and up. Yes there are owlbeast and yes they drop eggs.. but nothing close to what has been stated here. I need 12 eggs and after killing around 50 or so I gave up trying at 10 eggs. There are wolves EVERYWHERE which range from 42 to 45. At 40, a lvl 45 is red and HARD as heck. It is VERY hard not to get aggro from either the trolls, wolves, gryphons, etc etc...

I am not sure how all of you did this quest solo at level 35-40 but I would like to see it to believe it. Since I have been there and seen what is in store.. I am more confident to believe that some post here may have exagerated their abilities.

This is just to let those that are wanting to do this quest at level 35-40 to stay away from the hinterlands unless you have a friend that wouldnt mind helping you out.

Hopes this saves a few of you some trouble and pains in the lower extremities

After I recieved the 20 Clamlette's and my increased skillcap I immediatly made a campfire infront of Dirge and made 4 Dragonsbreath Chilli's. This raised my skill to 229. When I Hearthed out to IF and logged out / logged in, my skill was still 229/300.

Raising your cap immediatly prevents the bug from occuring.

I was worried when the swiss was listed at 40sp each.. I thought 8gp for this quest! GAH! Actually though, you get 5 for 40 sp (36 if you have good faction) so it's much better.

.. I definitely recommend the owlbeasts in Hinterlands. The biggest advantage is that the wolves, the other mob in that area, drop Tender Wolf Meat, the recipe (Recipe: Tender Wolf Steak for which can be bought either from the questgiver or the Alliance inkeeper in Hinterlands - they can then be cooked when you hand the mats in to push you over 225.

Any of the nagas in Stranglethorn drop the clams which contain the zesty clam meat. Murlocs in Swamp of Sorrows also drop it too.

I was about to sulk. I am lvl 31 and have maxed my cooking at 225. Thought i had to wait till lvl 40, but no! Thank you patch! Only 4 more lvls!

I just want to say you guys are great with all this information. I was lvl 225 in cooking at lvl 30, with all the info i finally made lvl 35, and completed the quest from org to gadget, recieved 975 for org and 3900 xp in gadget. On my way to completing my fishing with nat. ty for the comments posted.

Zesty Clam Meat drops off of Southern Sand Crawlers (level 40-43) on the beach South West of Booty Bay.

This was much easier for me than some of the other mobs listed that dropped the zesty clam meat. Plus there is an FP and/or boat ride to the area.

In order to avoid unnecessary killing, don't get the eggs from the rocs in Tanaris. According to the site's data they drop around 20-30% but it's not the case (or I am the most unlucky man on the server). Try the owlbeasts in The Hinterlands.

as a leatherworker farming for turtle scales I can tell you an average hour of killing the turtles (either side of the dock at steamwheedle) not including the results from skinning would give me about 40-50 of the zesty clam meats about 3-4g from selling vendor junk and on average 1 black pearl and 2-3 iridecent pearls per hour. find a leatherworker get them to give you the clams and you let them skin everything for turtle scales.

You no longer have to be 40 to get this quest. I just got it at 35. You still need a cooking skill of 225, though. Of course, getting it at 35 is not that wonderful, when you have to be slightly higher to get the eggs. Bah!

Finally gathered all the materials; the giant eggs are real tough because a pretty rare drop from the Tanaris rocs and you draw aggro from Hyenas and basilisks and scorpions oh my! and this is quite a challenge to deal with at S40-41. When I finally handed everything in to Dirge Quickcleave I got the leveling up graphic but I apparently am one of the lucky ones who's bugged. Stuck at 225/225. Got the clamettes though; but they alone are no way near worth all the work that goes into this quest. I am a S41 dwarf pally on Earthen Ring if that helps.

For a fix, why couldn't they just have the final quest turn in count as a cooking skillup, so that when you complete it, you are at 226/300. Wouldn't this work the same way as cooking right after you turn in the quest?

Does anyone know if the levelling bug is still an issue on getting cooking above 225 skill.

If I turn in the components for the Clamette Surprise quest, do I have to take enough food to try and level up to 300 straight away in the same zone?

Is it ok to go into one of the other huts to use the stove or should I bring wood to build my own cooking fire with?

i got the zesty clam meats at Steamwheedle in tanaris within 1 1/2 hours.
the first 9 within 1 hr. the last one alone tool 1/2 hour.
you will get some firefin snappers and few stonescale eels too.

the level was indeed lowered in 1.8, hit 35 and 225 just before it and couldn't get the quest so I was eagerly waiting for the patch

Just completed the quest the other day, got the 20 food, announcement of the new Cooking skill, even saw the graphics on me when you learn something new, and blam, skill cap didn't raise--still at 225.

Received typical response from Blizz--"Sorry for the inconveinence". *sigh*

3900 XP at Level 41 (Quest is orange)

A guildmate got me the eggs - I could only get 4 over a couple of days killing rocs in Tanaris. I bought the cheese at the Stormwind Cheesery. Took 3-4 sessions (10-20 minutes each) fishing at Steamwheedle to get the clams.

I saved all the fish from the Fishing Quest to cook after I got this done. I was a true lucky one and got the level cap increase to 300.

After my fish were all cooked, I was 287/300!

So blizzard sent me an email:
"There is one possibility, however, and that would be to unlearn the whole trade skill and start from the beginning, but even then we can not promise that it will work, since we do not know the source of this new bug yet. It is quite a lot of work involved, not to mention all those recipes lost, so think twice before attempting this solution."

Have anyone tried this? Usually you can't do the same quest twice..

Picked up most of the items (at least the eggs) before taking the quest. Here's what I did:

1) Hinterlands - get the eggs from Owlbeasts
2) Steamweedel Port - get clams from turtles
3) Stormwind - get the cheese from the cheese store

Once you lvl up to Artisan, head out of the Inn in Gadget and make a R-turn just outside the door. Go behind the buildings and there's a fire there. Just cook your animal products there to lvl up your skill. Be sure you have some available to make your Kodo Stew, Dragonbreath Chili, Turtle Bisque, etc. You will have to buy the soothing spices and hot spices in Theramore (Trade vendor in the 2-story house near the griffons).

I bought all of the eggs and some of the clam meat at the Auction House immediately upon hitting level 40. If I had to wait until I could kill things to get them I would have been about 45 or 50. Learning from other peoples unfortunate experiences. I also brought along a ton of things to cook. I was at 300 before leaving the zone, not taking any chances here. It is curious though, some of the recipes are still green. Everything should turn gray when you hit 300.

You do not need to travel to foreign and exotic places and kill or die at the hands of exotic monsters. Everything you need is in Tenaris.

12 Giant Eggs
Loc.: Abyssal Sands (48,47) look for all of the large weatherbeaten dino remains.
Dropped by: Fire Rocs; These birds drop at a rate of 1 egg per 5 or 6 kills.

10 Zesty Clams
Loc.: Steamweedle Port and Wavestrider Beach.
Dropped by: Steel Jaw Snapper and Yellow Snapper turtles; once again the drop rate is at about 1 clam per 5 or 6 kills (remember to shuck the clam since they do not stack in their shells and will quickly fill your bag slots).

Loc.: Caverns of Time (64,58)
Vendor: Galgrom (Provisoner)

Save yourself time and flight money and stay in Tenaris to do this quest.

Does the Artisan cooking quest have a lvl requirement? As in does your Character have to be level 40+ to get the quest, or is it available when you cap expert cooking at 225?

I bought the clams from the AH at about 15s, and the eggs which were a little bit more expensive. Then i bought the cheese from the innkeeper at TB. Went to org to talk to the cook there, got the quest, then went to gadgetzan to get this quest Since i had everything on me i completed it.

Since i read about the 225 glitch, i brought a stack of turtle meat and soothing spices so i could make some turtle bisque....leveling my cooking past 225 so it wouldn't reset on me.

This morning i got the rest of my stuff and did the handin for this quest. It worked fine for me, got the new 300 cap and got my 20 meals. Skill ups are fine as well, already @ 250. I'm on shattered hand, not sure if it will make an difference.

I was succesful at finding quite a few around large skeleton remains in tanaris. the Rocs and Fire Rocs seems to be more prevelant near these.

Abyssal sands is a good place in Tanaris to find them, drop was about 1 in 3.

Where is the best place to find zesty clam meat? I think the highest clam meat I've found is the tangy kind. There is a post here that someone had luck "fishing" for clams at steamwheedle. I fish a lot, and very rarely catch a clam ever since the fishing nerf. Has anyone else had luck finding the zesty clam meat?

You need to talk to the cook in Orgrimmar (sp) and she will send you to this guy to get the quest. Of course you need to be 40+ and about 225 skill level.

As of the date of this post this quest is broke, i finished it 2 days ago, and my cap did not raise ot 300. I spoke to a GM, and was told Blizzard was working on a fix, but as of yet they didn't have an ETA for it, so if you are planning on doing it, you might want to wait till it works properly.
I was told that when the fix comes in everyone that has done it will automatically get their cap raised up to 300, with no further work involved, so at least that is a plus, now we just have to wait.

This is the quickest way I could find to do this quest.

1.I talked to the cook in Orgrimmar to start.
2.Fly to Crossroads then to 1k needles.
3.Buy the cheese at Inn then fly to Gadgetzan.
4.Talk to Dirge to complete quest which he then gives you this quest.
5.Kill Fire Rocs in Tanaris, Abysal Sands (they average about lvl 45 and dropped all 12 eggs in about 30 kills).
6.Run East to the docks and fish for the clams which usually give you the clam meat (sometimes pearls too).
7.Run Back to Dirge to complete the quest.

This took me about an hour or so as a lvl 44 rogue. If you know a better/faster way, please reply to this post. Happy cooking. :)

I went to Arathi, the innkeeper sells cheese. I then went to Hinterlands, killed turtles for the clam meat, owlbeasts for the eggs.

Wrong continent, I know, but I wanted to camp out in Kargath for raids tonight.. I'll turn it all in tomorrow :)

The Naga in the southern part Stranglethorn Vale that you kill for the "Akiris By The Bundle" quest drop Zesty Clam Meat fairly often. Just while doing the Akiris quest, I got 14 Zesty Clam meat.

Turned 40. Have been killing and fishing to get the ingredients for the Clamlette Surprise so that as soon as I was 40, I would be ready for the quest. Saved the purchase of cheese for last. Skill in Cooking is 225/225, and has been for some time before turning 40. So, I get to 1K Needles, and lo and behold, I must be 45 to buy Cheese! Underage for the purchase of a Cheese? Shoot, they going to check my Kodo Mount license or something? What is this? You must be level 40 to do the quest, and with all of that killing of mobs up to three levels beyond mine, finding the CHEESE purchase as the main obstacle in getting my Skill Up is extremely aggravating.
This quest needs to have the Cheese Purchase Cap lowered to match the quest level. Req's state skill of 225 and Level 40.

Simple solution for Horde:

Alterac Swiss from innkeeper Pala in TB.
Giant Egg from 41-43 Rocs in Tanaris or AH.
Zesty Clam Meat from most water beasts in DM or STVietnam. Or just grind some cash and go to the AH ffs.

This is untrue as there are no objective points for this quest, you can get the ingredients from anywhere, including the AH.

A word to the wise for WoW Classic, at least right now. I got everything from the AH, and in fact, the Swiss was listed lower that what sold at the inn, at 20 silver for 5. I got the eggs at about 3 silver each and the clam meat at 1 silver each. Now obviously prices will vary from servers, and also over time. However, my point here is check on the AH first to avoid you some trips especially if you are lower level (I was 39).

You don't need to go to Caverns of Time to get the cheese - it's sold by Carmen Ibanozzle, the innkeeper at Bootlegger at 55,60 in Tanaris - and is shown on the map, too.

For those of you curious about the Clamlete Surprise quest rewards, it seems that you get the ability to cook up to 300 and the stack of 20 Clamlette Surprise food. You do not get a Clamlette Surprise recipe from completing this quest.
