Does anyone know what the small chest behind the prince does? A member of my group managed to open it, but the server crashed before any of us could see what it was.

Any ideas?

just checking but...are the shendralar ancients in DM west on the second floor?

I just tried to do this quest with a couple of guildies (war, rog, hunter=me) paladin, and druid.
We died way to much to the elementals aroud the dog.. untill we realised we could just bypass them with pack/stealth. the rewards are just insane... anyone who wants beastalkers helm over this needs his head checked. plus its goto be 500x easier to get.

Backwood Helm 301 armor Mail, +21 agility, +9 intellect, +9 spirit, +13 stamina, +1% chance of critical.

Had a lot of fun doing this with a party who similarly had never been in west DM. We probably took twice as long as necessary as a result between going the long way around pretty much everything and clearing way more than we really needed to, and we had to replace our priest and warrior between the first 3 pylons and the rest of it for time reasons (which added another half hour for the rest of us, of course). Not many times since hitting 50 (let alone 60) I've felt like I was doing something new and challenging though, apart from the first few runs against Drak when the guild wasn't used to it yet (and then the first few runs once we started doing with under 15 people and only 2 healers), so it was a welcome change just for that.

Besides, I did scholomance the day before and was done out of the Beaststalker Cap by a bug after I got teleported out when Gandling died. A grueling run with an actual reward at the end is not to be scoffed at :)

I’ve read many posts about DM west being difficult.

We ripped through it without any problems..and 2-3 of us were newbs to west. Hit every boss, owned the dog and prince. Stick to class fundamentals and play smart…the instance will go quickly and smoothly.

Warrior, hunter, warlock, rogue, priest. Granted, having a ‘lock helped, but this isn’t a hard instance. And Backwood Helm? What can I say? I’ll never set foot in Scholo again unless it’s to help a guildie.

it should be noted that EVERYONE needs to have this quest in order to choose from 1 of the 3 rewards. It is not a quest to unlock 3 random rares from the chest like I read elsewhere.

In case you got trouble finding this quest:

Enter Dire Maul West
Clear the main plaza with the first pylon
Instead of moving down to Tendris, head north to the ramp leading to the upper level
Turn east, clear the 2nd pylon and move to the bridge leading to the 3th pylon
Ancient Shen'Dralar can be found when passing over the bridge

You need to return to the library after completing this quest. The rewards can be found below the ramp leading to the lower level.(##RESPBREAK##)908##DELIM##Uchur##DELIM##

The Madness Within

You must destroy the guardians surrounding the 5 Pylons that power the Prison of Immol'thar. Once the Pylons have powered down, the force field surrounding Immol'thar will have dissipated.

Enter the Prison of Immol'thar and eradicate the foul demon that stands at its heart. Finally, confront Prince Tortheldrin in Athenaeum.

Return to the Shen'dralar Ancient in the courtyard should you complete this quest.

This madness must come to an end. The age of the immortals has long since passed. Destroy the guardians surrounding the pylons to lower the force field. When this is done, destroy Immol'thar. With the Prince's power greatly reduced, attack and end him. Lay the spirits of this city to rest, adventurer.
