To complete the entire quest up to this point, you need to do the following:

1. You begin in the Burning Steppes with the quest Dragonkin Menace, which is pretty easy.

2. "The True Master" chain comes right after step 1. You:
a. Talk to Salomon in Lakeshire
b. Talk to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in Stormwind
c. Talk to Lady Katrana Prestor who is just across from Fordragon
d. Talk to Salomon in Lakeshire again
e. Talk to Marshal Maxwell back in the Burning Steppes
f. Talk to Ragged John at the Flame Crest
g. Talk to Marshal Maxwell again

From here you need to go to Blackrock Depths and talk to Marshal Windsor. He will tell you to return to Marshal Maxwell again with the quest Abandoned Hope.

At this point, it seems the quest just runs into a dead end because Marshal Maxwell does not give you any further quests. You need to go back to Blackrock Depths and kill mobs there for a random drop called A Crumpled Up Note. Right-clicking the item will set you back on a quest to Marshal Windsor.

Windsor gives you the quest A Shred of Hope, which is to retrieve lost information from Golem Lord Argelmach and General Angerforge. You return this to Marshal Windsor.

The next part is a bit hard - you need to escort Windsor from his jail cell. Make sure the area is cleared of mobs before you do this. The quest is called Jail break!

After escorting Windsor out, go talk to Marshal Maxwell. He will give you a quest called Stormwind Rendezvous, which can be done solo if you stay away from the battle.

Talk to Bolvar just after the fight. He will give you The Dragon's Eye. This means you have to go to Winterspring to find Haleh.

After this, go to Upper Blackrock Spire and kill Drakkisath for the Drakefire Amulet. Kill Drakk and loot the blood.

Return the blood to Haleh in Winterspring and she will give you the key to Onyxia. The Drakefire Amulet attunes you to Onyxia's lair, which allows you to kill Onyxia and return the head to Bolvar in Stormwind.

ofcourse she is not really 500+ it does however say so on several bosses in the game. blizzard themselves put them out as lvl 500+

A couple times I have seen, walking into SW, 2 rows of guards on either side of the path, and the elite guy is not in front of the statue. If you go to the keep, you will find the boss fighting like 15 elite dragonkin, is this the end of this quest?

NO that is the chain of quests to get the key to onyxia's layer, after that you go to URBS to kill the General and you get the Drakefire Amulute. https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=4829/dreamers-belt

You can skin her with 300 skinning + Finkle's. Thats 310 skinning and you can skin her. 310 divided by 5 is 62, which is her true level. All world bosses have their level hidden. Hitting them is just as easy/hard as a mob that same level, meybe easier

Do try to fight against <a boss> first, because only after that (and several proper attempts on it!) you will have something to base your "zomglol onyxx lebl 1337 bozz" talk coming from your jabberhole on. Hmm... then again everyone with more brain capacity than your common rodent of nuisance can deduce this on their own.

Besides - what does the level of <Insert THE boss of omgwtflolb00bn00bbbq here> mean anyway? Mages can cast spells on onyxia with ease (it does not resist), hunters can damage it, it can be tanked without grief, etc.. That's all you (should) need to know.

Final word: If it really bothers you kids of lol that much, go get an addon that shows enemy levels.

Soon they said they would make the mod that level levels go up to 70..but I am so confused because the quest says you have to be level 70 to do it..And about the guy turning 61..this is freaking me out..= O I dont want to go another 10 levels is was already damn annoying to get to 60..NO MORE!

She is boss lvl. As far as i understand is boss lvl 500 but u hit as it was lvl 60. So she is BOSS lvl.....

Blizz set the level at 500 so the little ignorant idiots have something to talk about while they level their paladins from 3 to 8pm. It's bedtime kids.

if we take an example of that fact that u can take all normal mobs solo, an elite in ZG u need to be atleast 4-5 man, for an boss you need to be 15 man

in MC u can take one elite mob 10 man and Ragna on 30 if u got good gear.

U can se that the increase of ppl needed is about the same so can't it be that Ony, Ragna etc are Elite Elite's at same lvl as the other mobs :P

Raid instance Boss on release are not lvled. they will not have a number representation they will be a skull regardless of lvl. They are set at their own rules and regulation when it comes to raid bosses. they are on a differnt table then regular elite mob tables. Regular mobs that have a skull just mean they are higher then you can comprehend at the moment. Raid Bosses that have a skull just means that they are a boss and doesnt refer to lvl. Life, power, resistance etc are what defines the raid boss. Most Calc and addons that try to calculate a raid bosses lvl through health and resistance and so forth are using the regular mob tables and you will get crazy numbers like 71-500. Like for instance if you use the Drawiclvl addon to determin lvl on a 60 warrior you will get a lvl 25. Make that warrior put on his epics and his resistance potions and trinks he will jump to lvl 75. thats because were on a differnt table then NPC mobs.

now that waas backkkkk in the day.. things may have changed because they are prepping for the exspansion and will be wierd for a RAG to be a skull for a lvl 70.

She's not level 500. Two things:

1. If she were actually 500, skinning her would require 2500 skill. It doesn't.

2. When something is labeled "Boss", its effective level for hit-chance and spell-chance purposes is defined as "3 levels higher than you." That means your base chance for, say, a hunter, is 92% (95% for a 60 Hunter to hit a 60 mob, -3% for 3 levels difference). When the expansion comes out, and you hit 61, it'll still be 92%. (Yes, this means a 60 Hunter with +8% to-hit on his gear *cannot miss*.) Spell resistance works the same way -- so you see, even if Onyxia WERE actually level 500, it wouldn't make her invincible. It would just make her un-skinnable, because her Boss status overrides several level considerations.

i somehow doubt that this boss is lvl 62... much harder to kill than a lvl 62 elite, think blizz are right. its NOT technicaly 500 but class it as that!

Onyxia isn't lvl 500.. she's rly no lvl.. skull should be a mob that is 9lvls higher then u or more.. butif she was lvl 500 it would be impossible to solo her with 8ppl.. as I've done..

Every1 is calling her lvl 500 coz she's no lvl.. thats rly the answer..

I have seen screenshots of Onyxia's head hanging from the arches at the entrance of SW... is this what happens at the end of this quest?

I have been waiting on this fool to respawn for like 13 years. What gives? How long does he take....I have been here for over 30 mins then I went to BG and waited on another to pop and he still did not respawn.

The choice is most difficult for a paladin. I would say, Dragonslayer's Signet, simply because it has stats+FR and the +crit to spells is useful. I am not thrilled that the FR is so low, which damages my FR build, and really, it's not as useful as my other day-to-day use items(blood of the martyr+seal of rivendare). I suppose it will replace the seal of rivendare, but i'm not thrilled about losing mana, even a small amount.

When your turn in the head in the keep, do you get the buff? Is there more too it than that?

As a paladin I chose Talisman, mainly because I have worse or better replacement for other two:
- Seal of Archmagus for Signet
- Amulet of the Darkmoon for Pendant

Of course you may do quest multiple times to get more FR items, but I'm sure there are better ways to attain high FR.

yes, the head hangs above the gates, and you get this buff:

Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer
Increases crit % of spells by 10%, meelee by 5%, attack power by 140. 120 minute duration.

The posts below saying this is repeatable should be deleted, also some of the information in them is complete rubbish. This is a one time only quest for which you choose one of 3 rewards so choose wisely.

Horde version:
Head of Onyxia gives Victory for the Horde which leads to For All To See.

Alliance version:
Head of Onyxia gives Victory for the Alliance which leads to Celebrating Good Times.

Rewards are:
Onyxia Blood Talisman
Dragonslayer's Signet
Onyxia Tooth Pendant

You'll only be able to select one of the rewards, so make sure you pick carefully.
