This item is a random drop off any of the mobs in any of the Dire Mauls. Gives one of the best tank swords in the game, along with earning the best looking award.

and sneak down the ramp, along the wall to the left, where you will find a door and another down ramp leading into the library (Athenaeum). you will need the crescent key to get in.

Its a random Rare drop from Dire Maul. Guildee got it yesterday in DM west off a boss. it doesnt always drop off the boss its just random. doing the chain quest gets u the Quel'Serrar but also requires u to defeat onyxia

it is .1% on most bosses. i have been farming for 1 month, abotu 300 dire maul runs, that is abotu 600-800 boss kills. i have never seen it drop.

Ony is actually very easy if u have tanks geared properly. oth MT and OT have to have 200 fire resist or more to whistand her breath.
If u get this book, and u need the sword, check for ony raiding guilds and talk with them, they might help u out and sneak u on their next ony raid. good luck, is an awesome sword

The atuneam is at north .
Find someone with the key and u could walk with no agro to there. first door left in the middle.

if ur tank dies instantly from Ony's breath, he/she is not a very good tank.... its called fire resistance

btw she is kinda easy,whe downed her on our first run(2 try's tho)with almost no fire res gear!

We went up against Ony last night, and downed her in a close battle.

Around 10 percent, I went up and planted the blade into the ground near our MT. Before I could get away, I did die.

I watched the blade though and it did say Ancient Heated Blade.....then she died.

Before she was looted and skinned, I was raised. However, our entire guild couldn't find the sword, as it looked as if she basically fell on it.

So, we coulnd't find it so we looted and skinned. The body went away after the skinning and we still couldn't find it so I made a ticket and submitted it last night.

This morning blizzard emailed me and said to abandon quest and go get it again and do over. Big freaken help that is, that's exactly what I'd do if they didn't help at all. So basically I'm waiting at least another week for their screw up. The only thing I can think of is that since I died maybe that has something to do with it, even though the guys in my guild said that shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Your problem is that ony died before you got ress... the sword dissapear's if she dies and you dont stab her with it...
Not much Blizz can do with that... sorry pal...

the blade that the guy gave you is the blade that needs to get fired by onyxia's breath. just run into onyxia's lair, drop it in front of her at around 5%, then it will turn into the ancient heated blade. go pick up the anicent fired blade and turn it into the guy at DM. then you get your shiney new epic sword.

if you are not keyed for onyxia, that really sucks.

Guys, u don't actually have to take a breath from her u just leave it on the floor UNDER the MT at the time and when it gets fired, pick it up, u have to then do it in 20 mins, which is not too hard. when ony is dead, PUT IT IN HER CORPSE then it becomes treated and you bring it back and get Quel'serrar. Tada

Lords & Ladies:

There is a lot of whining above, but let me set the record straight. My guildmates and I have assisted in the forging of no less than half a dozen Quel Serrars in Onyxia's Lair. It is not all that hard if you know what to do.

After the first two phases of the Onyxia battle have passed, let your tank be absolutely confident that he has the great wyrm under control. Get her down to bout 5% so that you know that you've got this battle within reach. Plant the blade in front of Onyxia's face next to your tank, then quickly get the heck away from her.

(If the battle is going badly and you're not completely confident that you're going to win, KEEP THE BLADE in it's sheath. You can always try again after you wipe if you didn't put it down to be breathed on.)

Your tank (who should have sufficent Fire Resistance to sustain a GREAT MANY breaths, duh!) can give you a shout when the blades been breathed on.

Run over and pick up the blade. If you're concerned about getting killed, down a Fire Resistance potion before running over to Onyxia's face. Grab the blade and get the heck away from her.

At that point you've now got 20 minutes to take her from 5% to 0%. If you can't do that, well, maybe you should have sold the book to start with. :-P

Grab your blade and stick it in her corpse. Run back to Dire Maul and complete the quest.

Guys, don't make this quest a "fable" and don't put it on a pedestal. It is totally doable!

First of all, it's not that hard to withstand the breath. At all! If you're in a guild doing Onyx runs, and are structured, someone will be able to make the Onyx cloak (Which makes you live through one deep breath without dieing.)

Having said that, ofc you do need alot of fire res, but honestly, if you think u can just join a random guild raid and swoop inside to get it, just forget it. Gear up on some dark iron plate items, chain shoulders, and plan it well. get ur sta up and fire res up. You can do it.

Ok, you get this book in DM, drops just like any other random book there, just alot less often. Take it to the library. They send you after Onyxia. Guess what, Ony's a cakewalk. My guild took her with 25 earlier this week. With a full 40 man, it takes 15 minutes to kill her from start to finish. By the time she breathes, she has 5 minutes left. So if you have your hearthstone, you can take the blade peice from her and get movin pretty dang quick. Enjoy the easy to get sword. Also, it gives experience because the exp. reward is how they calculate the 60 gold conversion for quests.

I wish i had that damn book. Done over 450 DM runs(all instances) and never seen it droped.

afaik you can go to DM an get another blade then. i suggest planting the blade near the MT at around 5-10% if everything is looking good. shouldn't be too much of a problem with an experienced group. afterwards, you pick up the sword and use it near onyxia in order to plunge it into her body. after that, go to the athenaeum in DM.

When you get this book, you give it to a guy inside DM. Then he gives you a new quest called A dull and Flat Elven Blade. Later on, you have to go to Onyxia and wait for her to breathe fire on it. You have to put it in front of her before breathing fire. When she breathes fire, u have to kill her in 20 minutes. When she dies, u stick the blade in to her corpse and create the forged elven blade. Then immideately return to the guy in DM to get your Quel'Serrar.

holy crap, i freakin want. sword says Paladins and warriors only, so if you aren't a pally or warrior, you probably dont get.

I'm serious.

I've been doing DM runs for months, I've been there so many times the ogres all know my name
and they point and laugh as I walk by, but no drop.
nothing. nada.

Running MC in almost full Might now, but still a crappy old blue axe (Iceblade Hacker) to use for tanking.

The newer warriors in my guild, all still in blue and green gear somehow all seem to pick them up for cheap
or atleast affordable, and everytime I check AH they're up for more then 900 (which is way too much these days.)

Can you imagine me standing there in full Might epics, swinging my pathetic little axe,
while the rest of them have this huge green-glowing sword?
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they managed to get their hands on it..
every warrior should get this. They're my guildies and go team!
But it just seems unfair.

Still.. I'm not giving up. I'm a warrior, and all you warriors understand this.
I shall have this thing one way or the other.. if I have to go and smash everything that stands in my way.

DM here I come... ...again.

The Quest: The Forging of Quel'Serrar. After a few steps here and there. The last part is to have Onyxia breath on Sword (fire the sword). Then you have to kill her in 20min.

I plan on Dual Wielding Quel'Serrar with another Epic or rare. That will be SWEET! :)

maybe he farmed Hydrospawn for this many times ? one run takes about 10min u boon

The book only gave me 9950 exp as reward, no sword at all. Not sure what i need to do next to get the sword.
