Bloodvenom Essence had a drop rate of about 80% for me, Rotting Wood dropped like 10% from the small treants, but if you see the big treant walking through Irontree Woods you should try him - he dropped 3 Rotting Woods at once!

Kill the Irontrees at 47,26 for the rotting wood, and kill the Tainted Oozes at 42,45. GL!

I had like 90% drop rate on the Rotting Wood and 10% on the blood venoms :/

The Withered protector dropped 3 for me too, lvl 56 tree. Dont forget these are elementals so for a lock Banish works pretty well if you need it. The 56 mob had 53's with him which I banished until I was done.

No tlocs no problem...The oozes are the ones right by the imp that gave you the quest the rotting woods are directly North of the imp that gave you the quest and are in an area called Irontree woods.

Yeap, kill the big tree(withered protector) to get stack of rotting wood

took ages until the normal irontrees would drop some wood. i risked to attack the lvl55 giant tree and suceeded (very close combat using VW). he dropped a stack of 3 woods. unfortunately he was lvl56 when he spawned again..slightly too high for me. i just farmed irontrees again. somehow the trees in the south region dropped wood oftener. maybe wrong maybe not. took about an hour to complete the quest.

for the wood, kill the protectors they are lvl 55, easily done for anyone 51+ with a voidwalker, they drop 3 lots of wood generally, and that is alot better than kill 5 small ones for 1 piece, good luck have fun!

"Stompers" and "Wanderers" dropped 10/18 .. seems much better than the comments above.

I tried the area around 39,49 and got good droprate for the bloodvenom essence there.

I did this at level 50 solo. Not hard at all but it is monotonous. The ooze dropped better than the rotting wood. Only had to kill around 8 or so of the ooze things to get that part.

The rotting wood was another matter. I killed the smaller tree creatures (i didn't try the 55) and I stuck with the 52's and 53's. They really are easy with the VW out. NP at all. Just took a long time to get the drops I needed.

All in all good exp, but takes a bit.

The wood was dropping slow for me so I killed the Big Green Guy there, he dropped 3, bless his heart.

I have 5/10 now after 7 kills , but then a 54 ud lock came and destroyed it all :(

Trees are at 50,22 - as stated everywhere. The slimes are everywhere to the north of the imp... you should agro some when you go to speek to him =B.

Droprate is amazing for the slimes but terrible for the treants, which everyone has said..

I have noticed that killing the GIANT level 56ish Whithered Protecters gives 2-4 stacks of wood per killing every time(for me). Try to take them out if that helps. (Soloed with 50 loc)

My 50 Warlock couldn't kill this 56; threw everything in the spell book at him and the word "Resist" is burned into my screen. Sacrificed the VW and ran, whereupon I hit an interesting problem. The Protector can spam daze, so that you never get out of it.

Fortunately the combination of a Swiftness potion and a health gem carried me just far enough so that he lost interest. Think I had about 5 health left.

I've encountered sets of two mobs that will daze or root (or throw a web or a net) in sequence so that one overlaps the previous, but I don't remember one that did it sequentially before this.

Came back with my 65 Druid and chopped him into matchsticks and toothpicks just for my amusement, but keep your eyes open - when the Protector wants to fight, he really doesn't want you to leave.

Didnt take too long like 15minutes maybe I was lucky but this HUGE lvl 55 Withered Protector came out of no where I was wondering why the ground was shaking lmao and he dropped 3 of the wood stuff you need. =) The coords are perfect too made it very easier for me.

Haha.. I have just had to start this quest over. I had gathered 10 peices or rotting wood and then accidently deleted them all :S The drop rate was pretty good though.. About 2/3 :D

actually my drop rate was awesome, 4 oozes got me the 4 bloodvenom thingies and 11 tree people got me all the wood :)

Not hard at all 51 Lock, 1 in 3 trees and slimes dropped what i needed
Also only got 1 from a large tree

There's about 6 level 60's farming this place while I'm trying to do the quest. I've usually only seen people farming the water elementals...makes this quest really suck because I've killed about 10 now and not a single piece of wood..

not the best drop ratio, the coords for the wood is 52,23ish, carefull a lv 55 proctor here as well.

if u dont have the coords follow the road when it gets to a bend which heads north east look to your right, theres a small lake to your left close to "jadefire run"
or follow the roright at the top or the road head right lots of small pools is labled on the map IRON TREE WOODS easy (al lv 52-54)

strugle to get the wood tho, killed loads be4 1 droped, kept checking was in the right place. drop ratio poor. had 2 woods to go, and the big lv 55 atacked me, managed (somehow) to kill im he droped the last 2 :)

the essence was a lot easyer, just kill the slimes by the quest giver

Found out that the HUGE BIG trees drop 3x Rotting Wood at one go, whereas the little ones only provide single drops.

Kill the lvl 55! It's definitely worth it, because he isn't that hard to take down, and he gives 3 rotting wood per kill. Soloed lvl 50 destro lock :0.

First It only took me 5 kills to get 4 pieces of Bloodvenom Essence.
For the Rotting Wood, I just go for the small tree mobs since I'm only lvl 50, lucky for me that there was no one around and trying to take my mobs
I got 2 woods in the first 2 kills, then take a bit harder, I got all 10 Rotting Wood in around 30-35 kills ( with 29% drop rate on my meter)
Run my ass fast back the and 5100 exp gained :))

Well if you think the drop rate is bad try doing this quest whilst 4 or 5 level 60s are farming the damn trees...what is so special with them? maybe the savage fronds?

Like others have mentioned, Irontree Woods is a great place to start. At location 52,23 I received 5 of my 10 rotting woods. Just watch out for the BIG protector...heh. It took me 45 minutes to get all the wood - this included sharing the area with 4 or 5 other level 60's who were farming Dreamfoil.

Rotting Wood (10) Loot off trees at 47,26 and all around the ponds.
Bloodvenom Essence (4) Loot off slimes near quest giver.

Completing this quest will send you to Sunken Temple to defeat all the troll bosses. The rewards are so-so, but the weapon will be a nice show piece.

Easiest way I found to deal with the lvl 60s farming was to banish the next one you want to kill :) worked a treat for me!

Rotting Wood and Savage Fronds:
The big trees drop 2 to 5 Rotting Wood, go for those.
Seven small ones drop 1 Rotting wood average.
Drop rate for one Savage Frond is 50%.

How to deal with the heavy farming in this area?
As a Warlock (Aff) you can take 3 trees at once:
- first: Voidwalker tanks one + Siphon Life
- second: Curse of Doom one, then Banish.
- third: Corruption + Curse of Agony , then Fear.
- Immolate on first one, life tap, drain life or /dance
- Banish (2) again.
- Fear (3) again.
- /dance
- Be prepared to enslave the Doomguard if it summons after the CoDoom.

Remember not to be in raid group trying to grind this quest items, they will never drop !

You may see a lot of people farming the trees, but if they are of your faction that may be a good thing. Ask to join their group, telling them you just want a warlock drop and they can keep everything else. If loot is set to free for all, they can loot the corpses and the rotting wood will remain after they are done. If it's on group loot, you'll still be able to loot the rotting wood on a corpse that was somebody else's, after they loot it. Anyway this will get it done a lot faster, especially if it is a group of 60s doing the farming.

Now that I have my felcloth, I can really begin making *my* pet.

It's going to need some eyes though. Perhaps you could rip some rotting wood from the irontree folk for me, so I can carve out some lovely eyes. They're up north in the Irontree Woods.

I'll also need some bloodvenom essence to give it that new demon smell. The tainted oozes carry the essence, and they hang out right here near Niby and me.
