Since patch 1.11, Janela will keep Captain Blackanvil alive with heals during the encounter with the abomination, so you don't need a healer to complete this anymore, just let them kill it. :)

ok i have this quest and i went to the captain. I let them kill the elite thing and then when i go to the captain it wont let me sign the papers and at the top it says "No charges remain" wtf am i supposed to do about that?

Windcaller Kaldon begins this quest in Cenarion hold.

The one time i forgot the field duty papers the captain survived. the 3 times after that he died. what can I do if i'm a nonhealer? I've fought the big bug to try and kill it faster to no avail. Every class should be able to solo this right?

I tried this little trick today..

1. Set your HS to Cenarion Hold
2. Take off with your healer and kill the Bug
3. HS to Cenarion Hold and turn in the quest
4. Take the quest again and return to krug on your mount (I had Epic mount so I dunno if it works for regular mount)
5. Have him sign them again
6. Return to CH and deliver the quest for your 2nd assignment...

this way you only need to kill the bug once for 2 quests :P

Note: you can't just run back to CH as the offer to have the papers signed will not be available then.

After reading that the Captain die, I didn't heal him. After the battle, I realized that the Blue "?" was not there. In reality the Captain can die.

how u must do to get papers:

kill the elite (heal or banadeg him)
in the end he has a blue marked on his head... so u --- right click the item --- in ur backpack... then u can talk to him !
quest done !

i go to the place... talk to the janella or w/e her name is... and then this huge fight starts with a hive'zora abom. i help kill it... atleast 3 times now... and then i go talk to janella again, and it says "give us a minute to catch our breaths a bit" and i wait... talk to her again, and then the fight starts again... i cant find the capt. anywhere near the camp for him to sign my papers...

what do i do?

Get the unsigned field duty papers, go to the camp (around 32,53) talk to janella, the battle will start, a 60 elite huge wasp thing will appear. The captain will appear and start fighting (he has a glowing sword). You must keep him alive, if you dont have a healer then he will die, other than that the NPC's can complete the fight by themselves. Once you kill the 60elite everyone will go back to the camp, Captain will be there with blue question mark over his head. Talk to him and get papers signed, return to quest giver to get the new quest.

Hint: get papers signed, run back to quest giver to get Field Duty quest again, run back to Captain and you can get it signed again. so 2 Assignments (combat, tactical, logistics) with 1 kill of the boss. Must have epic mount or you wont make it (Captain will dissapear)

also, watch for the huge wasp's fears, as there are mobs close by that will aggro

For those of you wondering and who never got through these quests, like me, you can solo this. You have to be higher level from Burning Crusade but I just did this with my level 68 rogue and got the field papers signed. I have also succeeded with Signet of the Dukes and can probably go higher but haven't yet.

So you can get your rep up to revered without help and complete a lot of these quests. Very few are doing these now so getting a group can be tough. Solo may be the only way to go. I hope that helps.

The trick to doing Field Duty twice still works! I just did it but you have to be very fast. After killing the giant bug, and using your Hearthstone to go back to Cenarion Hold, immediately enable any speed spell or trinket you have and then run over to turn in the signed field papers and take the quest again. Then jump on your steed and race directly back to the camp. (I put a Raid marker on him to find him easily.) Right click the field papers, right click the general and he'll let you finish the quest without killing the bug again.

BUT, be fast! He disappeared 5 seconds after I turned it in. (Note: I have a swift Mechostrider which is faster than normal so I'm not sure if I would have made it with my old mount but it's worth the try.)

Report for duty at the Ironforge Brigade post near Hive'Zora. Prepare your Unsigned Field Duty Papers and obtain Signed Field Duty Papers from Captain Blackanvil and return to Windcaller Kaldon at Cenarion Hold in Silithus.

Note: Healing or casting beneficial spells on a member of the Ironforge Brigade will flag you for PvP.

You will find Captain Blackanvil's Ironforge Brigade outside Hive'Zora.

Report to him or his lieutenant, Janela Stouthammer and come back to me. I shall have a more advanced assignment for you ready.

Oh and please do us a favor and stay away from the Orgrimmar Legion. We've been forced to keep the two forces well apart from one another due to mutual animosity.
