The mine entrance is at 60, 3 in the far Northeast corner of the Barrens. The Enforcers and Overseers are in the mine, but also all around the area outside the mine.

Only had to kill half a dozen of them or so before the emerald dropped.

The reward is some money as well as a 6 slot bag.

The drop rate is terrible. I would suggest not to bother too much with this quest unless you really need it.

I cleaned the entire cave and then cleared everything again on my way out... That's atleast 40 mobs. The item dropped from the last mob I killed. :P

Not a hard quest....could be time consuming....I got the drop after killing about 15 of the enforcers/overseers....in fact, behind the mine after I killed an enforcer.

you people are so funny complaining about low drop rates. I came from Silkroad Online, where many quests would take days to complete. I remember one where the quest item didn't drop until I had killed over 1200 mobs. (also why I like WoW better)

Let me stress (for I even was stupid enough) that the emerlad can be found at Boulder Lode Mine and NOT Sludge Fen. Boulder Lode Mine can be found North East of Sludge Fen!

I killed about 6/7 mobs, it's nice to go into the gave, there is a chest, coords are correct.

In Durotar, head to 61,5. Simple as that. Kill the Overseers in that area. Yes, it can take forever to get the Gem but it will drop. I got it five minutes into killing the Overseers. I got it from the Overseer on the stairs of the first big building on the right when you arrive at 61,5.

Don't listen to those who say you can only get it from such and such enemy--it drops from any Overseer. Stick near the entrance if you don't want to wander far into the area.

Took a whole barrel of kills for me to get it. Not that bothered - the XP was beneficial. I received 15 silver, 95 copper. I had enough bags, so sold the six slot container (or old moneybag) for 2 silver 50 to a nearby trader.

the first character i ran this quest on, i got the emerald in about 5 or 10 minutes. this time around, i've spent about an hour killing people around the mine and have yet to get the emerald to drop. seems like the drop rate fluctuates here... some people get it almost instantaneously, some people have to work their asses off.

oh well, as a previous poster said, the xp is beneficial. i'm soloing it as a lvl 14 mage (heavily buffed through spells and alchemy), so the lvl 18 overseers can cause me some difficulty.

Listen, ANY overseer has the emerald, i found mine at the broken tower, and a friend just arrived after me and he killed a overseer on the ground and ALSO got the emerald

this may be a pain in the ass but you get a decent ammount of money for it! pluss if you're lucky you can do one of the thingimagig manual quest at the same time. (you know what i mean the thing begining with S. i'm not even gonna try and spell it)

Just my 2 cents.. and I don't mind hitting it for the XP.. keeps high level guys from comming down and camping.. but this is a low drop rate.. I probably killed 150 and no drop so far.. and a couple of us went through the mine.,.. we found no boss.. just a GOD AWFUL respawn of reds spaced close together.. if you die in there, ya may as well just rez.. rez'ing at your body in the mine is suicide..

i did this quest as a lvl 33 mage, just to discover this map. ran in, agroed 7 of them, frost nova'd, used AOE's till they were dead. 1 dropped it. easy! no XP from kills, but meh. i discovered the map. =P

170 xp gained from completion. hahaha

Cleared out the camp twice. Killed the guy at the gate on the way out as i was giving up and it dropped. Not a hard quest but might take a while.

Listen its gonna take a while if your not one of the lucky ones so just Keep wipeing the out side and It will drop / I took out everything out side of the mine and my first spawn droped it and from what ive been reading the majority of people that get the drop arent in the mine so just be patient and youll get it

I went to the mine as other posts recommended...I picked up this quest pretty late as a 33 hunter an mowed through the mobs in the mine....it took me like 15 mins...maybe less, before the emerald dropped. So I guess the mine is a good place to find it...it's an enclosed area so you don't have to wander around looking for specific mobs to kill. I hope this helps.....

Seeing 2 posts mentioning killing a dwarf, I'd initially thought only dwarves drop the emerald. Got mine off of an ogre.

killed about 30 or so enforcers and overseers. i didn't bother to enter the mine. just kept on slaugthering the mobs.

the quest took longer than expected but i did get alot of wool cloth and a nice 2H sword.

I killed the first enforcer by a tower outside and he dropped the emerald. Done in less than 30 seconds. LOL

Some 33 Warrior was killing them all in the area, 1st one I saw was a goblin on the steps of the house....dropped it. Was done in 30 seconds hehe.

*Edit: Also in my bag of coins was a 6-slot bag called old moneybag.

I have killed over 80 of these guys and I finally got it. It is a good place to grind if you are below lvl 19 anyways, though.

Head straight out the Orgimar Back door (covered bridge leading over the river to the barrens)and up the hill. YOu will see what looks like a ruined orc watchtower. This is a Venture Co. mining camp with nothing but Overseers and Enforcers walking arround. Two of us killed 5 and got 2 Cats Eye Emerald drops.

I cleared the entire place out 3 times, no emerald. I figured oit was bugged and as I was leaving I had to kill the last one to get out. He's the one who dropped it. Go figure.

I cleared out every single overseer in the area- nothing. Decided to go into the mine then cause everyone posted the emerald dropped outside, but that didn't work for me. Kill the first ENFORCER just inside of the cave and wamo! got it. Don't just kill overseers cause it could come from one of the enforcers too.

This has got to be one of the worst quests i've ever come in contact with on both the horde and alliance side. Not only have I gained 10 bubbles of exp from the guys around this area(and i'm level 19)but i've died countless times from retarded agro and still haven't gotten the emerald to drop once. I highly advise skipping this quest unless you have a lot of time on your hands.

I estimate we killed about 40 mobs before the gem dropped i was in the mine when it finally dropped. there is also two veins in there for you mining folks as well. Like the quest info said its just a rare drop.

At the cordinates 61.5. is the mine and once you get there you dont have to go in it just search for goblin that is lvl 18 and kill it he will drop the emerald and you are done without dieing.I did it my self beein lvl 17 warrior.

yeah this was easy, the coordinates where on for the mine area, and I only had to kill 4 little goblin guys, a lvl 18 dropped it outside the mine. Maybe won't be the same exactly, but he was around the left edge of the area when you approach from the road by the tower.

coming out of rachet.... go north past the thorn place until you hit the road going to Durator.... but don't cross over to Durator..... follow the road north... and keep going... you should run into the place... drops are pretty good as well...

Walked up the road into the 'camp', killed the enforcer that was blocking the road, got the emerald, stroled back to Ogr whistling a merry tune... :D

The easy way is to go to Far watch post and follow the road that goes North from it. Takes you right to the Mine you need to get the Emerald.

In the time it took me to get the drop, I managed to get 40% of level 18 on my orc hunter. Ok, so it's not a quick drop, but it's all experience, reasonable easy kills and they drop coin.

After killing over 60 of these guys, around 30 overseers and 30 enforcers, both inside the mine and outside the mine, I dropped this stupid quest. No amount of coins is worth that kinda trouble. Okay, well maybe a bag of gold coins, but that ain't gonna happen.

If you don't get the emrald outside, it is not worth going in the mine for, especially if you are solo. If you die, It is too long form cross roads, everything will have respawned, and it is too hard to get out of the mine. You will be half life, mobs are close toghere, pats are roaming around, and it is just not worht it. You get about 1700 xp besides the coins you get, and you get a 6 slot bag. Pathethic for this level. Big waist of time.

Sta$%^&ticly you hve to kill 45 of them to get a drop. But you almost allways get one the 20 first.

Got it from the third Venture Co. I killed, at (62,5). Which sucks because when my druid did this quest, I was killing for at least 45 minutes, and was about to give up and do something else, before it dropped.

And, looking at the page for the item, sure enough, 2.33% Drop Rate.

Not my favorite quest.

Well I cleaned out the mine twice and then upon exiting, I found a bearded gnome who kindly dropped the emerald for me - I took out 40+ of these guys to find the right one. The consensus is that the dropper will be outside.

Like most Barrens quests that begin in Ratchet, this quest can also be done by the Alliance.

At lower levels this is an annoying one, especially if you go alone: corpse run is 2200 yards and ressing inside is a pain because it's very crowded there and respawns are fast.

Can confirm the Cats Eye Emerald drops outside the mine. Killed about 15-20 mobs before it dropped off an Enforcer at the beginning of the trail in the front area. Took about 10 minutes as a level 20 Arms Warrior with a level 20 Holy Priest helping.

Over 8 characters, I completed the quest with 97 enforcers and 66 overseers killed. Assuming that the mobs share the quest drop, on average I had to kill 20 mobs to get the emerald to drop.

Just dropped inside the mine from a human Venture Co worker contrary to what some have been saying that it drops exclusively outside. I don't think there is anyway to prove which is more effective though. I think it's just down to simple luck or the lack of. I will concur though that it also only took me about 10 -15 mins to get it.

Being Wharfmaster of a busy port like Ratchet, I keep my finger on the pulse of information. I know all about the exchange of goods and money between here and Booty Bay.

The latest bit of news I've heard is about the Venture Company's Boulder Lode mine northeast of the Sludge Fen. One of the miners discovered an emerald the size of your fist. I know a few buyers who'd be interested in getting their hands on something like that, and I'd be willing to go half and half on its sale.
