Stalvan Mismantle, to find him, take the road out of town to redridge. Take the first left and he is located in the house. Once you have killed all of the others around him and he attacks be ready because he has a very quick attack time and if your a caster using DOT's use instant or you will never get them off. Exhaustion or a Frost buff of some sort will help.

The coordinates 77.33 are right. If you're going N out of Darkshire on the road toward Redridge it is your first RIGHT.
Solo'd him as a 30 feral druid. Not that tough, still had about 30% life left. Started with moonfire,switched to bear, popped up for a quick Rejuvenation heal and to reapply moonfire, and he ran. Hit him with moonfire again and he went down.

yes, it is very easy, just make sure you dont attack him while the other things around you are attacking you.

I've seen a couple people post on thottbot that the ring wasn't dropped, with one explanation being to complete the entire quest chain instead of just killing stalvan without a quest.

I completed the entire chain in order, was given the last quest to kill Stalvan & bring the family ring to Eva. Killed him solo, he dropped no ring & the quest disappeared from my log. I had checked the Q-log immediately before pulling him out of the house & the quest was there, but after I looted him & got no ring I checked the log first thing & that quest was gone. Checking back, Commander Ebonlocke has a yellow "!" and is waiting for me to complete my task.

Has anyone else had this problem & gotten it resolved? It was a very enjoyable questline & worth the playtime, but I'd rather not give up the 4100XP if I can help it.

Killing Stalvan is very easy when you are a mage.

My tactic:
1st attack: Frostbolt, to get his attention
--
2nd attack: Cone of cold, to reduce his walking speed
3rd attack: Frost Nova, to freeze him on his place
4th move: Walk away to get enough distance (watch out, dont go to far, otherwise Stalvan will walk back to his house and you can start over again)
5th attack: Blizzard, put the edge of the storm on his place. He will walk right through and taking damage.

When he is almost at your character. Do the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th attack again until he dies.

With this he got no chance to hit you, except of his curses.

offtopic: This fighting method is also easy to kill many attackers or elites =)

I soloed 28 warrior, my tactic did a charge then retaliation, then activated fire hardened mail, then blood rage, then a continueum of herioc strikes :)

You get a choice of two rewards, either the Ring of Forlorn Spirit (+2 Stamina, +7 Spirit) or the Crescent of Folorn Spirits (20-38 Damage Speed 1.60 +6 Spirit AXE)

He is still lvl 32. Solo'ed the whole chain throughout the weekend, my lvls ranging 29-32 (Hunter).

managed to solo it as a level 28 mage (frost of course). Didn't resist many of my spells and had to use Cold Snap, so make sure it isn't on cooldown :) Not a bad ring, and alot of XP from the entire quest line.

for the record...., soloed him the first time in. only shielded once to heal. not hard at all. just make sure u clean the area or pull him to a safe location. The axe has great speed and does great damage as well. This was a very kool quest with great content. 4100 xp is great to boot.

Lvl 29 Priest here, soloed it. I wouldn't say it was easy, but if you can get him one on one, it can be done.
By the way. . .Location of this guy is 77,36 inside the shack.

Save your finger and check out your auto-run key bindings.

This quest series shuttles you between Duskwood, Westfall, Stormwind, and Elwynn Forest - everything except the Goldshire and Logging Camp bit are easily accessible via gryphon/hearthstone. Do it at your leisure in the 26-28 range as you do other stuff, then take out Stalvan when you get the urge later.

Just as a tip, part of this quest series is in Stormwind, so even though it says Alliance/Horde technially, it's basically impossible to complete if you're Horde, save your effort.

The quest XP rewards leading up to the last quest are ~8500 just by themselves, not bad for an hour or so of gryphon travel and a bit of light jogging. Use the time to make a sandwich or practice meditation. :-P

i dont think theres one post here so far that doesnt have the words I and solo'd in it, but im a little interested in the story

through letters i found:

1st: he cant teach in moonbrooke so he has to tutor 2 children. the girl is scheduled to marry in 1 year

2nd: the boy is dumb as a post but the girl is smart and captivatingly beautiful

3rd: The girl gives him flowers and smiles at him

4th: She feels for him the way he does for her. they hold hands.... unspoken words go between them...

Then i get:

Darkshores governer or w/e tells me hes a vicous murderer and has a rotten soul and shes been suspicous about him for years, and i have to kill him.

WHAT HAPPENED!

"ironically" enough the ghost that pops at you when you get clues is a girl, and says "toil not on matters of the past, <username>". could this possible be... THE GHOST OF THE SMART CHICK?

so just wanted to express my findings... if you read somthing i didnt about what happened in between him falling in love with an engaged girl and him running a masacre, please tell me.

Crescent of Forlorn Spirits is a lev 35 weapon with a wicked attack speed, and considering you can do this quest before lev 28 easily (28 hunter and 30 warrior smacked Stal, no prob), makes it a desirable weapon.

Certainly having all the flight routes helps, but I think I'll wait until I'm a little higher than lvl 27 before taking the last part. The best bit about it has been reading peoples comments :)

I cant believe I read through all this crap and no co-ords at all and no real help.

co-ords are 77.36 in the Manor Mistmantle - lvl 29-30 on the way to the hut yeilding good xp - clear the area 1st so you can have fun outside with Starvin' Stalvan and you will get the ring (dont wish for anything else) to take and a curse for old times sake.

Finish the area after for extra xp.

And dont do what I did and start a post while in the hut - I just got flogged by respawns - LMAO.

Level 24 Paladin was able to easily complete all segments of this quest chain except Stalvan(level 32) himself . I gave it a shot after consuming a variety of buffs but to no avail . The aid of a level 30 Warrior pal I partied with closed the deal . Stalvan dropped the quest ring and the warrior pulled a bar of truesilver from the fireplace chest . As for the reward after turning in , both are acceptable items for the expected toon level . If selling , the Axe is worth more . Though I must choose the Axe on the basis that quest items have no level requirement and I would have to be at least level 31 to have a green single handed weapon of this DPS . An enjoyable story line that I didn't mind running to and fro for . I wonder , if I focused only on this quest chain , could I have done it quickly enough to never lose the ten minute curse ? Fun .

There is a chest hidden by the Manor at 79,33. Not a lot in it, but it's a decent bonus.

Watch out for Stalvan running away at the end. He'll run towards the Fetid Corpses and then you have more to fight at once.

I got on a team with a helpful 45 to kill this guy (27 priest at the time). But really, in this quest I wanted to see the story, and see what had happened or would happen.

I felt a bit sorry for the guy, but he was a bit of a creep and obviously insane. Tilloa was quite like her namesake ('Tilloa' is an anagram of 'Lolita' for those who didn't know), to my mind. Nymphet tempting then spurning the older suitor, who went off his rocker. Ah well, such is love. Or something.

Either way, nice questline. :)

The ghouls in the area can give you a pretty devastating (and contagious) disease that slows your cast time by 25% and your hit time by 33%. Remember to have a priest cast Cure Disease or take a potion before you take on Stalvan.

Also, as has been said before, READ THE JOURNALS. Not only is it a cool, involving story (even though it's a little dumb that no one puts two and two together and realizes that Stalvan MISTMANTLE might live in Manor MISTMANTLE ten feet outside of town) nothing's more annoying than some lazy teenager asking a question he could answer himself if he took thirty seconds to think it over.

Stalvan was lvl 32 everytime i killed him. Soloed with lvl 31 Warlock. Used the voidwalker to tank and taunt, buffed Stalvan, and shadowbolted the rest. Not bad.

finished this last nite after a long runround. Myself Warrior level 23, and a mage level 25. Had a druid as backup keeping us alive, plus a couple of hits on him when we were wearing down a bit.

Not really sure if it was worth it, had to log right after to go to work.

Just tried soloing this as an Affliction-oriented Human Warlock who had just popped 27 prior to getting this final part of the quest. Didn't have too hard of a time with the beasts around the graveyard, but Stalvan himself proved to be more than a match, even for a Warlock who has put more into his Stamina stat than most other Warlocks that I know. Even having a caseload of different potions (Elixirs of Defense, Wisdom and Firepower) didn't help all that much either. Not sure if using my Voidwalker instead of my Imp would have made much of a difference, but I like to think that the VW could have tanked most if not all the damage before Stalvan finally turned his attention on me.

Oh well will try this another day.

I took him down no problem (30 Pally), but I couldn't open the chest that's in his fireplace. It would start to open for a second then i would get "the item is not in your line of site." i tried every which direction but couldn't get it open. I'll go back later and try again but I'm just glad no quest item was in there.

pain in the a** series, but well worth the ~10,000xp or so for the chain.
stealth and poison make the fight fair, and he will try to run at about 20% health. He's fast without being slowed, so either use crippling poison or clear the undead before you take him out.

Solod at lv28 Druid

Aggro pulled it,

Rooted it moonfire and faerie fire'd it went into bear form and just started wasting him down. around 60% hp unshapeshifted rooted him backed up healed, regrowth/rejuvinationed then back into bear.. feral charged him when he tried to flee at 20% hp and finished him off

Really easy, at no point did I think I was going to lose.

Stalven is a level 35, and there's various level 29-30 zombies milling about around his shack. He's not particularly hard, though, and can be done at 28-30 or so with a group.

Done as a 26 warlock solo, all i did was run him down to the guards spamming curse of agony, they finished him off and i got 4100 xp. (That is just a cheap way for people who are too low to kill him fair :P)

Even though, the quest was red for me, heh was lvl 30 hunter smooshed him with a lvl 29 warlock and my lvl 30 pet..took abot 3 mins and 4100 XP points in the end with the ring tyvvmuch :)

A poster below said he was a level 35, but I ran this mission last night (twice) and he was only a level 32. I soloed him as a level 32 Druid. I tried it first all in Caster form, but had to heal too much. It worked much better starting with a Starfire and a Moonfire and then shifting to Cat form to finish him off.
Things to watch out for:
-- He spots you easily, if you get anywhere near his front door, he comes charging out.
-- Watch out for Adds from the undead around his house. Take out any near his door before attacking him.

solo'd this easily with a lvl 30 rogue..

stealthed into the house, applied deadly poison to my swords, used distract, greeted him with a garrote..whacked away at him with sinstrike and threw in a couple of eviscirates his way..the poisons finshed him off.

had to use a healing potion, only because I aggrod a lvl 30 fetid corpse, and I was down to about 1/3 - 1/4 health

All in all I've quite enjoyed this quest....Forgot about this quest until I had to go back into Westfall and found the hidden page in the school house..I've been pleasantly suprised by the XP, even for a Level 30 pally. Should finish this one tonight, time permitting..the couple of ghosts that spawn when you open the boxes are all a bit random, but nothing a man of my calibre couldn't handle!

Soloed this as a 32 druid. Not a bad fight, just used Entangling Roots a couple times, backed off to heal, then went back in. His attack speed can be a killer though -- watch out for that.

Stalvan is L32 and he hits very fast which can be troublesome for casters.

As a L28 Priest I fought him like this:
Buff with PW: Fortitude and Inner Fire (as always) and PW: Shield.

Here is my attack order:
Holy Fire (3.5 sec cast)
Mind Blast
SW: Pain
Psychic Scream (If he resists this you're in trouble and should consider running away.)
Holy Fire (While he is running in fear.)
PW: Shield (again)
Mind Blast

At this point Stalvan should be seriously hurt and he will try to flee soon so you can probably wand attack him to death now.

During the fight you may have to heal yourself. I used Desperate Prayer (a human/dwarf only spell). Instant options are naturally healing potion and/or Renew.
You might want to cast Renew as a your last pre-battle buff.

Easily solo'ed as a 30 Rogue: Ambush opener, pounding with Sinister and Ghostly, and Eviscerate every two or three points. Just make sure to clear the nearby mobs, and to put Crippling poison on Stalvan to stop him running once he gets weak. 4100 XP, money in the bank.

I was totally unprepared for this... first I picked off the Rotten Ones outside, steathed in and he saw me as soon as I walked in the door...><; Anyways, I forgot to poison, and man he is fast so use cripp if your a Rogue! Beat the crap outa him with Sinister Strike/ Eviscerate... ended up having to use a . I had about 40/1000 life left and I was about to die, when he tries to run away so I BackStabed and killed him... =D Yay! <Throws Stupid Ring Away> Exp was pretty good though...

For the first part, Moonbrook is in Westfall. When you get there look for a building with an old broken down carriage infront of it. It's the most north west building. Inside is an old footlocker. The note is in there.

I solo'd Stalvan at Level 31 Warrior, using Whirlwind Axe, all you do is Rend him, and (if you maxed out the deep wounds talent) hope you crit him to do the deep wound. Disarm helps too, because he attacks very quickly with his dual swords. He's very easy to solo. I think a level 30 could probably solo him with no problems.

Being a bit bored of using the usual head-on approach to mobs, I decided to kite Stalvan down to Darkshire. No problem, as long as you're just using rank 1 arcane shot & serpent sting to keep his attention. The guards usually kills him off in no time.

Right after that, I did the same thing to Stiches with another succesful kill. However, I then ran out of luck while trying Ysondre (new realm, so noone is high enough level to even think about killing him). The DoT killed me off just before I left the Twiligt Grove :(

Completed as level 27 Warlock with help from level 29 hunter. Started fight as solo but pulled an undead ghoul along with Mistmantle, Ouch!. I figured I was going to die for sure but Hunter nearby offered to group in middle of fight. Of course I said yes and we managed to take him and the add down. I would suggest unless you are close to level 32 don't attempt a solo run he is pretty difficult.
Oh and the exp is great, I think highest i ever received. 4100! That and all the lead-up quest got me about a fourth of all my exp towards lvl 28. Good luck to all

yep, still 4100 for lv 35. i started the whole thing at 35. just a few griffin, following direction here and did the quest in less than 30min i believe. A MUST-DO QUEST! :)

Soloed him with my level 30 Priest. Used mainly Shadow skills to kill him off faster, and Mind Flay to keep him from aggroing everything else. Almost a close call, but relativaly easy if you can keep yourself healed.

IMHO (In My Humble opinion), the recommended lvl for this the last part of Stalvan-quest,
is a set a bit high, for hunters.
It should be very easy to take Stalvan down at lvl 32, equal to Stalvans.

Using only drops and quested gear, at lvl 33 Bear pet and pet lvl 32 /w Bite 4, Claw 3 there was never any doubt I would prevail.

Go get him before 35 I say, the reward is more useful if you do :-)

In addition to the exp, you get +200 rep /w Stormwind

Soloed him with my lvl 29 hunter. Not that difficult at all. Some things to know: He's got around 1700 health and very fast attack speed. I had to take a health potion half way through. Beware that he starts running when his health drops so finish him off before he pulls any ads. Also his agro radius was amazing. I was standing way outside the house setting my trap and getting ready to send my pet in and start to shoot when he just jumped out of the house to attack me. My pet couldn't hold agro so I had to melee him for the most part.

I soloed this at 33 Pally. Pretty simply since he is the only mob in the house. Since he does attack very fast I used Seal of Crusader..needed to heal once, and when he got ready to run I used my Hammer of Justice...then lightly ran back down the road. Simple. As you leave the town going north the Mistmantle Farm is the first path off to the right. Ignore the dead guys running around and simply go in the house. Stalvan was dead when I first got there and I had to wait for him to spawn.

Soloed as 30 NE rogue. He charges as soon as he sees you - couldn't even get a shot off, so had to take him head on. Killed me the first time, so the second time I used poisons on both my weapons and killed him fairly easily. Was a good "detective quest" if you're tired of just killing stuff.

I have to admit this was easy. Cast Frost Armor and Arcane Intellect on myself outside on the road then entered the property. Killed all the ghouls outside the cabin first, they're spread out enough so you can snipe them individually if you're careful, and then waited until he was visible in the doorway to loose a long range Fireball. Was able to get in one more while he was coming to me then Frost Nova him and back up a couple of steps and hit him with another Fireball. Cast Mana Shield before he breaks loose of the ice and then hit him with a couple more Fireballs to finish him off while he wails on you with his swords. Yes he tried to run but last Fireball had plenty of range to reach him and finish him off. Cast Remove Lesser Curse to get rid of his nasty present and run off to collect my reward. The ring is useful to a mage.

Fought him with a level 31 rouge. it was easysause. when i walked in his back was to me and i ambushed him and sin striked him a few times and then kidney shot and sin striked some more. i didnt get anything of value outside of xp and rep from the whole chain.

Just did it with lvl 30 hunter.. Easy he didn't even hurt me .. :D He was lvl 32 and i made fire trap outside the house (duskwood 77, 36) and made Hunters mark on him send pet and then just gave it all i could with all kinds of shots :D He died after a few seconds .. btw, i killed som lvl 29-30 before i killed Stalvan :D as i said .. EASY

After reading all the comments, I get the feeling that either I had a weird, lucky experience with Stalvan, or that Blizzard has nerfed this guy a bit.

I'm a level 29 rogue, and killed him last night:

I live in Central time but play on a Pacific time server, so it wasn't very crowded when I was on. Walked into Stalvan's "yard" and pulled/killed a few Fetid Corpses one-by-one, then sauntered within 20 yards of Stalvan's front door & learned the hard way that his aggro radius is HUGE...he came running out & started beating on me before I knew what'd happened. I vanished & he went running back into his cabin.

So I cleared all the Fetid Corpses (who gave me some rot disease), took a Jungle Potion to get rid of the rot, applied Instant Poison to both of my swords (didn't know Stalvan was a runner at the time, so I didn't bother with Crippling Poison), buffed with Scroll of Protection, Scroll of Stamina & Scroll of Strength, ate Mystery Stew until I got the Well Fed buff, then headed for Stalvan's front door.

He came running out & met me outside (about 10 yards from his cabin, out of the aggro radius of any newly-spawned Fetid Corpses, luckily), and we just started beating on each other.

I spammed Sinister Strike, and hit him with an Eviscerate every time I built up a few combo points. Got in a lot of lucky crits (I have Malice & Lethality maxed out & have a +crit ring), and the Instant Poison helped a lot. He tried to run away once at around 15% health, and I ran after him. He didn't go far...he ran 15-20 yards to a Fetid Corpse spawn point, but luckily that guy hadn't respawned yet, so he turned around & started beating on me again.

I had about 20% of my health left when I finally dropped him. His loot was terrible...he dropped the ring (quest item), a couple pieces of silk, one piece of wool, a melon juice, and some silver. But the 4100xp quest award for finishing him off really hit the spot.

Full chain almost finished half my lvl 30 (about 2000 exp) and a good about of rep with SW (would say about 1000rep).

nice quest if your bored of fighting monsters all the time.

Soloed at lvl 29 as a Warlock....it was a VERY CLOSE battle, i used both my healthstone and a healing potion, at the end i only had less than 40 HP when I drained the very last bit of his health (his swords were just about to swing down).

Lvl 30 NE Rogue, (just turned 30 due to this chain), double poisons on the weapons, (instant and crip) stealthed up on him and cheap shot, ruptured at 4, drank a heal, at the next 4, he tried to run but I cut him down with evis...easy fight.

Stupid chest in fireplace is bugged. Dont go off and report this. This quest is VERY easy and adding up all XP, rep and cash makes up for the bugged chest. The axe is only worth 73 silver, ring (I was told is) 15 silver. 4100 XP with 500 rep to SW. That is good, if bliz goes to fix the chest, they are also going to either cut down the reward or beef up the boss.

Level 28 warrior, soloed it.
Used Retaliation almost on pull, and a Healing Potion when I got to half health.
Made sure Demoralizing Shout and Thunder Clap were debuffing him, while my Improved Rend took care of his health.
After that, I just spammed Sunder Armor.

At low health he starts running away, so make sure to slow him with Hamstring so he doesn't run into other mobs!

If you are struggling It is possible to kite him down to the guards at the north of Darkshire. Making the kill very easy. Just put a DoT on him as you kite him back and you should be fine.

The Light only knows what sordid acts he is plotting. Travel to his cottage just north of town, <class>, and execute Stalvan, once and for all.

When the deed is done, travel to Madame Eva's and show her his family ring. After all, it was her premonition that led to this gruesome discovery. But Darkshire is safer because of her.
