Dropped by Balzaphon, a Scourge Invasion boss who shows up in Stratholme on the Live side, though it's quicker to do through the back door until undead strath and reach him there. He is only there while the Scourge are invading, whether or not this will reoccur, I don't know.

If I remember correctly, this staff had about a 30% drop rate, and I got it on my 5th attempt. I got https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=23126 the second go.

This staff is on a level with the Rod of the Ogre Magi, whith the Rod having higher stats but less +damage.

If you have the chance at this staff, take it over the rod. It's easier to reach, the +damage makes it better (IMO) and for people who don't have time to raid, this will be perfect.

Hey first one to post i just got this staff today (first day it came out0 i believe im one of the first) it looks like an illusionary rod cept a white head and it glows black amazing.. =D

Been farming the living hell out of Balzaphon.

Coming in from UD Strat, kill the first group at the Service gate, then just head left to the entrance there that leads into the courtyard where Skul (rare) and Hearthsinger (varies) can spawn. It's the grey area between UD and SS Strat that hardly anyone ever completely clears.

Balzaphon patrols around the fountain along with a level 58 Patchwork Horror. The two aren't linked and move at different speeds, so with patience you'll get Balzaphon alone. Have a hunter or whatever suits you pull Balzaphon just when he's directly in between the group of undead to the left and right of the courtyard entrance.

You'll have to do some running back to the first area to break line of sight, since Balzaphon is a caster. Run straight away from him first to avoid him running into either group to the side, then once he starts to close on you for range and is in the actual tunnelway into the courtyard, get back over by the gate for line of sight.

Other than the fact that he spams a huge Frostbolt like he's affected by the old 'perma-Presence of Mind' bug, he's a fairly easy boss.

He drops great caster gear such as this staff, as well as two Corrupter's Scourgestones a pop, and is worth 25 reputation with the Argent Dawn.

Downed five times last night in forty minutes, dropped two of this Staff, two Chains of the Lich, and one Waistband of Balzaphon. On the fifth kill we just proceeded to do UD Strat to avoid the instance lockout.

The casters in my guild are getting more farming runs today, and hopefully by tomorrow we'll control lower Manhattan.

I got this today, along with the +22 damage and healing necklace he also drops. Farmed him with two other people; he dropped the staff three times and the necklace twice.

Just got this staff, 2 corruptor stones and a thorium lockbox by two manning him. I burned him down with the new combustion,improved scorch and fireballs while keeping my frost ward up at all times and the pally just healed me and tanked when needed. We thought about farming him since he's so close to instance entrance but its was getting late.

We decided on a whim to run Baron last night. Saw this guy while we were in there and killed him and this staff dropped. None of us had seen one before and since I was the only caster, I got it, its sweet and looks good.

Is he a rare spawn? Just tried a few times and he was never there.. went in UD side.. killed first mob.. went left through open gates. Skul was there once and thats it. Guess our server got left out?

As a hunter, I have been killing him as a good source of scourgestones since the patch came out, but he has now been moved further north from his previous spawn point. This move may have something to do with the fact that he could be soloed in his previous location.

Edit: He can still be killed solo in his new location.

Went in with a 5-man group, and farmed him until we couldn't enter the instance any more (I think it's 10 times).
4 out of 5 in the group got themselves a staff, plus some scourgestones, and some shards from the other blues he drops.
Nice and easy, and well worth it!

Had a group that was farming him last night,

2 Druids
2 Mages
1 Rogue

Killed him 8 or 9 times over the night, he never spawned by the fountain, always down in the corner to the right, near the hallway for The Unforgiven.

His placement there makes for a great Corrupter's Scourgestone run.. you can get Skul if he's up, Hearthsinger Forresten, then Balzaphon for 2 stones, and then The Unforgiven... all in about 10 minutes. Only have to clear one part of the center area, easy to AOE down.

Take advantage of this and the great loot drops while he's up!

I just planned and coordinated a Dire Maul Tribute Run and was lucky enough to get a Rod of the Ogre Magi a few days ago... then this super easy to get staff comes along. Both are pretty equal in stats, but geez, takes the specialness of my staff away.

I got this on my Warlock alt, it's like a mini Staff of Dominance but costs 0 dkp. You only need to clear 2 groups before pulling this boss, and he drops 2 Corruptor's Scourgestones every time you kill him. Excellent for farming.

Get it fast because the boss will be gone when the scourge invasion is over. I 3 manned it with a priest, druid (tank) and myself (mage). We had a few wipes due to pats. Learned it after a few and didnt have any problems.

He dropped the belt 3 times before I finally got my staff! No more DM Trib runs for me!

I just got this nice staff about 10 minutes ago on my 60 troll mage. we killed him once, and the warlock won the staff. Then we did Baron. After that, we reset the instance twice (the staff dropped second time, belt the first). I got both, and the Staff of Balzaphan replaced my Glowing Brightwood Staff. Now, I just gotta get 22 intellect on it - and it will be awesome!

I just did UD Strath, and he was there, and the Staff dropped, but I lost to a looser Priest, but he was certainly there, unless this is all an illution.

For those who dont know, this boss will be removed permanently from any server that wins 150 battles with the Scourge; if you dont get your Staff by that point, the Scourge invasion ends and you can never, ever get it. So hurry up.

We ran Balzaphon 4 times last night. 1x Staff and 3x Belts (grrrr). But he was not were we were expecting.

1x Resto Druid, 2x Tank Warriors, 1x Rogue, 1x Elemental Mage. All 60 or high 59.

Enter UD Strat. Do first pull. Go left through arch. Pull 2x Patrols around fountain. Pull left group by fountain. Pull right group by fountain. Follow right wall to road leaving fountain area. Pull group along that path. Pull 2x Patrols along that path. Pull single mob hiding around the left corner as alley turns left. Balzaphon is in the corner of that left turn.

Total for each run: 20 minutes.

And I got my Magister Boots when Hearthsinger Forresten spawned in our way during one of the runs. w00t!

Im a 54 lock, and I wonder if I'm able 2 take this boss out if my lvl 60 mage and 60 shammy m8s help me? is it far in baron, or am i just 2 low 2 get into the instance?

a friend of mine said that the Staff itself would despawn after invasion, any comments on this? i hope it doesn't, i already soled my crappy soul harvester.

Staff does NOT despawn. Invasion has been over for a few days on my server and I still have my staff =)

Did three farming runs on him yesterday and he dropped this staff three times.

If the scourge invasion is not over on your server, you should get this staff NOW! It is probably the best blue caster staff available and it is, without a doubt, the easist one to farm.

I got a group of several people who wanted this staff (and the other 2 drops this boss has) and we farmed the boss 10 times. (4 staff drops, 2 belts, 4 neck pieces) By the third run we had it down to a science and were downing him every 12 minutes. I even brought in my level 50 alt for the last few runs and got the staff for him.

The best thing is that this staff is STYLIN'! That black glow is pimptastic and soon the staff will no longer be available, making it just that much cooler!

I'm a paladin that a while ago I went to Stratholme Crimson Side with a warrior, rogue, mage and a shadow priest (he was an awesome healer though)and the mage said something about a new boss somewhere near the Unforgiven's gate so we went there and he dropped this staff.
Our priest had Simone's Cultivating Hammer and a wierd offhand healing orb but he let him roll need for it and now he's gonna keep it until he'll get Benediction/Anathema...

Is it really worth keeping for that long? =S looks kinda lame for a SP to me.

This drops off of Balzaphon in Stratholme and it has a 24% drop chance

It doesn't have the nice shadow effect, but for 6 less dmg you get 3sta and 4 int. And you can get it still from DM tribute run.

Easy to drop. Yesterday i did 4 run in 40 min about, same party. Killed 5 groups of mobs ank 3 patrol. Then the boss. He drop 3 cloth item any run and the staff at 4th run for me. Mage 60 server khadgar Holymagician.

since u now can reset the intances without changing the party leader, u can get like 3 or 4 of this in less than 15 mins... if u are a priest just bring a mage with u and heal him like hell at the 1st skeletons group, then... its a piece of cake... pull Balzaphon and the hearthsinger and u loot at least 2 blue items -> d/e =))

This was true as i did it several times to allow the whole party to get the staff, just tried again and he had been moved further in, past his normal pat route (have to kill most of that courtyard and a few more)to get to him. Second time this has happened, did blizzard move the easiest boss in the world to grind or what?
