Gorillas don't need any bananas. I don't think I fed my pet once after I figured out how to spec them.

Gorillas are absolutely, no doubt whatsoever best pet there is. And people are starting to catch up. My MC hound that I got one of the first on the server is permanently in the mothballs.

Hunter changes in 3.1

Thunderstomp -

Thunderstomp is now a pet talent available to any Tenacity pet. Now your bears, crocs or ESPECIALLY CRABS can join in the AE tanking fun. Assume the gorilla pet will be about as useful in PvP as the pets with stuns, of which there are several. Most of those have cooldowns in the 60 sec range. Pummel could probably be less than that.

Note that this pet is no longer the best for aoe, since Thunderstomp is available to all tenacity pets in the third tier as a talent. This means you have to be at least level 44 to aoe grind solo the way you could with gorillas at level 32.

On my hunter, i tamed a gorilla as soon as it was available and my gorilla (grapeape) was very good at holding aggro. i was rarely hit and he took alot of hits and it is somewhat easy to go 5v1 just keep mend pet up

IMO gorillas would be one of the best hunter pets in-game if they came at lower lvls as it stands the lowest lvl you can get 1 is at lvl 32 in STV other than that they also only have like 5 different tamable skins atm but other than that they are a great pet (srry for the mild QQ).
it appears that monkeys are getting their own family now they will still be tenacity but their family skill hasn't been announced yet also it seems that all the gorillas have vanished for Stranglethorn so it is impossible to get them b4 level 70 tame them now

I found this pet to be great against bosses. As long as you turn growl and taunt off but leave thunderstomp and pummel on. Both together can take care of the adds too. You just gotta watch for aoe from the boss or the adds.

When soloing I prefer my gorilla as a tank. I've tried several other tenacity pets and they just don't seem to click as well as the gorilla does.

The Gorilla's ability Pummel allows it to hit multiple targets at once combined with it's strong defensive passives makes it an excellent multi-target pet. Just keep in mind it has a restricted diet eating only fruit and fungus.

The Gorilla is in practice not a Defensive pet but a General balanced pet like a Wolf, Hyena and Carrion Bird.
Comparing the stats between a Gorilla and Wolf:

Gorilla :
Defensive modifiers = 2.04 total (Health mod : 1.04 + Armor mod : 1.00).
Putting it into relative terms, Health = High and Armor = Low, overal Defensive = Medium
Offensive modifiers = 1.02 total (Damage mod : 1.02) = Medium
Tanking bias abilities : Thunderstomp AoE Damage for AoE Tanking.
Passive abilities : Same as Wolf and all other pets, there is no difference in passive abilities between pets.
Wolf :
Defensive modifiers = 2.05 total (Health mod : 1.00 + Armor mod : 1.05).
Putting it into relative terms, Health = Medium and Armor = Medium, overal Defensive = Medium
Offensive modifiers = 1.02 total (Damage mod : 1.02) = Medium
Single DPS bias abilities : Dash, for faster single target DPS.
Passive abilities : Same as Gorilla and all other pets, there is no difference in passive abilities between pets.

So when comparing the stats, Gorilla's are slightly higher DPS and slightly lower Tank than Wolves and with the ability to AoE damage they have slight tanking advantage on multiple targets. But overall clearly a General balanced pet like the Wolf.
To put things into perspective, below a real Offensive and real Defensive pet:

Cat
Defensive modifiers = 1.98 total (Health mod : 0.98 + Armor mod : 1.00).
Putting it into relative terms, Health = Medium and Armor = Low, overal Defensive = Low
Offensive modifiers = 1.10 total (Damage mod : 1.10) = High
Single DPS abilities : In addition to Bite, they have Claw and also Dash.
Passive abilities : Same as Turtle and all other pets, there is no difference in passive abilities between pets.
Turtle
Defensive modifiers = 2.13 total (Health mod : 1.00 + Armor mod : 1.13).
Putting it into relative terms, Health = Medium and Armor = High, overal Defensive = High
Offensive modifiers = 0.90 total (Damage mod : 0.90) = Low
Defensive abilities : Shell Shield
Passive abilities : Same as Cat and all other pets, there is no difference in passive abilities between pets.

Clearly the Cat is an Offensive pet with top DPS stats in addition to the DPS abilities Claw and Dash. The Tank stats are, together with the Raptor, the weakest in the game.
The Turtle is a clear Defensive pet with top Tanking stats, and the tank ability Shell Shield.

And if you are wondering, yes, the same case can be made for a Tallstrider and Crocolisk being General balanced pets.

A more logical Summary of Pets :

Offensive (Low Tank, High DPS) :
Cat, Raptor, Bat, Owl, Spider, Wind Serpent

Balanced (Medium Tank, Medium DPS) :
Gorilla, Tallstrider, Carrion Bird, Hyena, Wolf, Crocolisk.

Defensive (High Tank, Low DPS) :
Crab, Scorpid, Bear, Boar, Turtle.
