I spent the good part of an hour fighting through those dang elites in alteric, and i find the little goblin guy Bro'kin, and nothing, absolutely nothing. I am peeved, because the first post up there, made it sound like you could buy it from him anytime. Well just so everyone knows, it is limited, so if your gonna buy it from him, good luck. Or else you can spend 4-7g on AH and have it with no trouble at all. Thats what I did, and I wish I would have done it sooner. The Gyrochronatom runs about the same price, sometimes cheaper, be sure to grab it off AH too, or you will be spending a lot of your time searching for it.

The Gyrochronatom can be bought from the engineer supplier for 29 silver. It is a limited item however. As for the Frost Oil, check the AH or ask a alchemist to make it(x4 Khadgar's Whiskers, x2 Wintersbite)

Bro'kin Sells the Frost Oil Recipe in the Arathi Highlands In the Ruins of Alterac. He is by one of the towers on the walls around it easy to get to as any rogue or druid if not mearly need to watch where you step. The Oil takes 4 Khadgar's Whisker and 2 Wintersbite these can only be herbed in these ruins as far as I know of. The Best Places I know to farm Khadgar's Whisker are Arathi Highlands, Alterac Mountains, & Feralas. For the next step you will need to get a Gyrochronatom. These you can get from any engineering supplier but they are a limited offer item so you will be lucky to find 1. If not any 170 and up engineer can make them for 1 Iron Bar and 1 Gold Power Core. The odd thing with these is that you need 1 gold bar to make them but that 1 bar makes 3 of them so i suggest getting 3 iron bars and 1 gold so you can help friends or sell the other 2.

Second, Bro'kin is at 38.3, 38.9 in Alterac Mountains.

Third, Bro'kin sells the recipe for Frost Oil, he does not sell the Frost Oil itself.

If you're going to do this whole series of quest, you might want to stock up some items first.

Wowhead is not able to qualify this as a chain since there are 2 different questgivers, and completing one quest opens up for another.

These are the quests that require that you'll bring them some items

Stone Is Better than Cloth

These are all the items you'll need
Frost Oil
Gyrochronatom
Healing Potion
Lesser Invisibility Potion
Patterned Bronze Bracers

So you'll need a blacksmith, an engineer and an alchemist to create all of these items. Or look at AH.

The Gyrochronatom can actually be bought by various vendors

Currently waiting for Bro'kin to respawn the Frost Oil Recipe - so far its been 57 minutes and counting. So much for the claim its on a 10-15 minute cycle! Not for me it hasnt..... still waiting ......

For those of you using QuestHelper, don't. It's probably pointing you toward a mailbox in Stormwind or Org because people are buying it from the AH. That's why QH recognizes that as the point where you "obtain" it.

Just an FYI for all you folks. When an item is limited supply it means that the vendor will only carry one of it. When that item is sold it dissapears out of his window until it respawns. The vendor in question does carry the Frost Oil Recipe you just have to get lucky in getting it since it is a high demand item. Best bet in getting is to try early in the AM.

It is pointless to go to this trouble if you are not an alchemist so best bet is to hop over to IF and purchase a potion. So you don't bug anymore GMs about it the quest is not bugged or broken.

Bro'ken sells the recipe at exactly 38,39. You have to get past a lot of Lev. 37 elite ogres. If you don't want to fight them, you can come in from the northeast side of Allerac from Dandrel's Fold (the pass is at 45,26). You'll just have to fight some non-elite brutes. Work your way to a wall that's near 42,40. The map shows a tower near there. You can climb over the south side of the wall,, and you'll land next to the stone tower. Bro'ken is on top of the wall to the ENE of the tower. If you hug the mountains to the north you can avoid fighting the elites, and make it to the ramp up the wall. (The ramp is at 39,39)

In the time it took me to type this, the recipe respawned. Less than ten minutes.

Edit: climbing over the wall worked for my gnome, may not work with other races. My undead couldn't fit.

The Item isn't what's limited. The recipe to make the item is.

Just so you know.

Besides, you can't even make it unless you have Alchemy, as previously stated.

On Mal'Ghanis the oil sells for some crazy price on the AH. over a couple gold (3-4 if I remember correctly), and I figured it wasn't worth it to purchase it. I'll be getting my alchemist levels up so I can finish this one.

But the guy did not have the recipe. I was on at off peak hours and when I got there both the yeti's on the ridge behind the wall and the ogres in front of the wall were alive so unless a rogue or druid snuck in no one had been to him in at least 5-10 minutes. He had 3 life pots and 1 mana pot for sale but no recipe. I waited at him for 15 minutes clicking on him every minute and the recipe did not appear. I went and killed a handful of ogres and came back and no recipe. Went and killed a few more and again no recipe. After a half hour I decided to give up and just buy the potions in AH instead of making them myself. Thankfully the oil was selling for under 2g on Suramar. There were a few recipe's listed as well but what's the point after completing this quest?

When i got to bor'kin the recipe wasnt there... and it wasnt just out of stock there wasnt even a place for it. So far ive been talking to him about every 30 seconds for 7 minutes and he hasnt gotten it in the things he sells. This is really weird and extremely frustrating.

Brokin is at 38,38 as stated. For me atleast he has different vials for sale and the first time I seen him he had 2x of the recipees for sale so i bought both, learned 1 and sold the other at AH. I waited about 15mins and another never spawned so I left. A vial of Frost Oil NEVER spawned for me.

I am back tonight to try to buy another recipee to sell at AH, none is there and no vial of Frost Oil. My Lightning Shield has run out twice now so thats 20 mins with no spawn. The spawn rate of the recipee must be long. Atleast for me it was but I have never seen him sell just the Frost Oil.

ok guys if your not a alchemist dont waste your time going to alterac. pick one up off a alchemist or auction house. while your there you should also pick up gyrochronatom it will be requested for the next part of the quest line hope i have saved you some trouble :)

My human priest managed to sneak over the wall some months ago (before 1.12) but my human warlock ran into the famous "invisible wall," with or without her pet. Tried to get in from the hills on many other sides and finally had to face the fact: front door.

She's a 41 and the ogres are mostly 37 elites, so that would normally not be a problem, but for some reason they completely ignored the VW (with all kinds of aggro-grabbing stuff running) and went right for the kid, who is obviously in cloth with only an armor potion (OK, and Demon Armor). Too bad warlocks can't kite. Are these duh-monsters that smart? The trick seemed to be to keep running in a circle until the ogres just had to pay some attention to the VW. Mageweave bandage, rah rah rah!

So you can't just attrit (verb of attrition?) them. It would take a week and 24G worth of repairs. I took out the one on the right side of the main gate (long fight, as above), then snuck in around the right, hugging the wall. No problems. Ramp to the wall where Bro'kin is was guarded by a mage and a brute. Waited until the mage was at the farthest end of his patrol, sent the VW after the brute and ran up the ramp to the wall. Neither one followed me. Bought the recipe and called the VW.

We jumped off the wall to the outside (only -250 damage) and ran. The two ogres jumped off the wall and followed us. We ran down towards the lake. They followed. We hopped a shuttle to Chicago. They caught the next plane. We transferred and went to Mexico City. They had passports and followed us. I've never seen anything like it. At no point in the game have I ever been pursued to that extent or that distance by anything. Amazing. You'd think they were bill collectors.

It was actually kind of weird, in an amusing sort of way; kind of like a cartoon. Wile E. Coyote's eternal pursuit of the roadrunner. I was willing to sacrifice the VW (sorry Makhtaz but that comes with the territory) but they never really got so close that it became an issue. They just kept on coming. Will they keep pursuing after I sign off? Do you think they were annoyed that I scammed them? I don't think I'll ever know the answer, but I got the recipe for the potion, so nyaah, nyaah!

On Llane server, the wait time is around 20 or so minutes from the last time someone buys this recipe! Sounds like the respawn time on other servers can be from 10 mins to 1 hour or more.

Thanks for suggesting to just buy the Frost Oil.
I thought it sounded weird that the guy was going to show me how to make it. I'm a black smith, so yes it would have been a waste of my time.
Also don't have mod for cordinates, so it would have been a big mess to try to deal with that wall w/ my human.

The recipe is on an hour respawn on my server, if you're an Alchemist its worth the trip.
After getting the frost oil you'll need a Gryochromaton(Try and have both items before heading back to the Badlands to save time) from an engineer with both items turned in during the chain you'll have to kill a lvl 45 Elemental mob which was np for me at 44 lol.. but for the two items the chain gave me 1700 exp- 1700 exp- then 4850 exp and a +40% run speed for 10 seconds trinket. On the server i'm on it cost me under 2g for all items needs and I got a decent trinket for the chase down pvps.
Sorry if the story pisses you off, its the best way for me to get it across.

I am lvl 52 warrior, read the quest, checked the notes on thotbot and went there, got the recipe straight away, thought I was going to get the Frost oil as well, so I waited for a respawn that never came.

Took an hour before I rechecked the notes to realise that I was only going to get the recipe. MInd you, I had kept busy killing elite ogres over and over, making a cool, 4+ Gold in the time there.

Went to SW auction house and bought the Frost oil for almost two gold. Still ended up ahead a couple of gold, shame I gained almost no experience in that time.

Well, the spawn rate for the recipe is terrible. Been here for over an hour and a half, no recipe. However, the xp from killing the lites at the bottom of the wall is nice. Gained half a lvl just doing that =) and am currently only 2 bars away from lvl. yay! Currently 40 'Lock

To be honest its pretty pointless trying to go look for the recipie if you arnt an alchemist. Even if u are its a high demand quest so its not likely to be there all the time. Buy it from an auction house if you are willing to pay some gold for it. If your lucky you will get it cheap XD

Thats true, the quest is a waste. If you do decide to go through with all the quests the gnome gives you though, you do get a neat trinket (Nifty Stopwatch) that increases run speed slighty on equip and when you use it, it increases your run speed by 40%. So a bunch of xp for all the quests that will probably get you halfway through a lvl and a trinket, or saving the cash. Depends on what you want. I got the mats for Frost Oil for under 3g (for 2 frost oils), and sent it to a guildie to make. If you're lucky its not too bad :) Good luck.

Yeah I have been sitting here.. LVL 42 druid.. alchemist waiting and waiting.. ugh. I suggest everyone follow the previous posts. Buy it and get out fast. The ogres are nothing, but it was a waste of time coming all the way from the Badlands up here.

I got to this dude and he didnt have the recipe...so i just went away and started killing everyone...every 10 mins or so i went back to him and finally after about 30 mins he had the recipe...I also picked up sum useful stuff to sell on the Auction House from the ogres so the waiting around wasnt all that bad..

At 1st I bought the potion from him, then about 30mins later I bought the Recipe from him. He is on TOP of the wall, if you get aggro, run like mad past him to the ledge (don't fall off) and it should clear aggro.

The Forst oil Recipe is a 1 Time buy.

But this quest is not for the recipe. He wants the Oil. Alchys can go to the merchant and buy the recipe, but other will have to buy the Oil from a Alchy or off the AH

Recipe: Frost Oil spawns about every hour from Bro'kin. Confirmed this last week when I Vendor Camped him for 5 of them (three for people I knew and two to sell). May have been 45min, but I played an alt for an hr and checked every hour. Had great luck and got one every time. Fairly high demand item. I did this very early in the morning/very late at night during the week while on vacation.

Well that was awesome. Someone had already been in when I was heading there and cleared the pathway for me a little =) Just had to walk and see a ramp heading up. When I got to Bro'kin, the recipe for Frost Oil was already there ^_^; But I fought some ogres for Wintersbite lol since I had none to make it =P

The quest agent requests that you obtain Frost Oil, but note "IT IS NOT FOR SALE". You need someone to make it for you.

It is cheaper to buy the materials on the Auction House than to go for the 3 gold they want for it.

You need 4x Khadgar's Whisker, 2x Wintersbite, and 1x Leaded Vial. 1 vial is on alchemists supplies as 5 provided. If you're an herbalist at 225 you can farm them from various places or buy it on the AH for 1 gold each set.

I found a backdoor into the ogre camp that avoids all the elites. When you get to alteric mountans, make a left at the first ogre camp (non elites) and head to the yeti's (growless cave). Fight or run through the yeti's until you come to the backside of the castle walls - this will take you along the mountanside on a dirt/snow path. DO NOT GO DOWN THE MOUNTAIN. Head towards the last mountain where you can't go anymore and you will see a deposit of iron ore (33:47). Walk up the hill and you will see the top of the wall and a way to go up and around the wall. Bro'kin is actually on the wall and there is a stairwell underneath the confirmed location 38:38 (next to the tower on the wall). There is one elite ogre at the base but if you time it right, you can run past him. Bro-kin will sell you the recipe - I think it was 4 or 5 G (don't remember)

There is another backdoor into the camp at location 33:53 which is a break in the wall. It is a good escape route if you try taking on the ogres. Hope this helps

Bought my potion on the AH but in the past have gone to Bro'kin for it in Alterac. He spawns with 1 copy of the recipe, once an hour. If someone already bought it you have to wait, but ogres wont notice you if you sit by him or a little bit further down the wall. I went away and did chores and checked him every 15 minutes till he had it. Took 45. No big deal.

2850 xp, no faction. (yellow quest, lvl 37)

The location is 38,38, in Arathi Highlands, Things that confused me was the Elite mobs, The places is located at the Ruins, you have to sneak you thru all the angry Elite mobs, or find a way behind, and walk up, he sells you the Alch thing to craft the frost oil, and thats the quest!

When you came to Alterac ruins where the elite orges reign, go (run) to the northern wall, he is on the wall, and you can jump off the wall, away from the nasty killerorges. Only do this if you (or someone you know) are an alchemist, who can make use of it.

I went to Bro'kin at 5:26 and the recipe wasn't there. Logged off and came back at 6:29 (so roughly the hour that it should take to "respawn") and it was there.

So before I was gonna waste 22s on a recipe I couldn't use (cause I'm not an alch) I asked a guild member to check AH for me to see if any of the "Frost Oil" was there so I could just buy it instead of the recipe. It wasn't but he said the recipe was and it was selling for 5g, so I decided to just buy the recipe and go sell it on AH myself. When I click on the goblin again to buy it....it's gone!

I'm standing by the goblin the whole time, no one else is even close to me and it just dissappears, WTF?

It is now 6:50 - by the time I checked with the goblin at 6:29, came here to sign-up/b*tch/complain, it came back. Go figure.

Just saying I don't think it takes an hour to "respawn" like you guys are saying.

Found the guy and no recipe. So I bought the mana pot he sold and hope for recipe to "spawn" after a while. Waiting... waiting, and now he sells 2healing pot, darn. So another long wait and guess what... 2mana pots. This is getting boring. Logged of and checked ah with my banker and 5frost oil sell for 3g. Thinking of doing that but I want that recipe :)
Well, guess it's time for another check, hopefully he's got it for me now :)

edit* LOL, after writing my post, getting on my banker and got the oil from ah, there it is. So now I've got frost oil to last me a lifetime :)

Yep, the recipe spawns on Bro'kin about once an hour. I went in the north entrance in the mountains, and just hugged the inside of the mountains to the wall where he is. I never even had to kill one mob...

You'll have to go into ruins of Alterac, and head to the north wall, there you'll see a ramp, just go up there and he will stand there. I have Alchemy but he didn't have any recipe to sell me. Might be that I don't have the correct lvl. I think frost oil's lvl requirement would be around 200 in Alchemy, I only have 180, so...

requires:
1 Frost Oil (made by an Alchemist)
1 Gyrochronatom (made by an Engineer)
1 Healing Potion (made by an Alchemist)
1 Lesser Invisibility Potion (made by an Alchemist)
...and then you get the Lesser Stoneshield Potion recipe, which (1) is pretty useful for an Alchemist and (2) sells for bucks on the AH. Since it's known that the recipe is sellable for a high price, the Lesser Invis and the Frost Oil are inflated as well. Sorry. But if you're doing this you are probably an Alchemist that can make both of those. (Ingredients: Khadagar's Whisker is found all over Stranglethorn Vale, and Wintersbite is in the region of the Ruins of Alterac. Fadeleaf and Wild Steelbloom are best found in STV as well. And if you aren't overstocked with Bruiseweed and Briarthorn by now, you may want to choose a different trade skill.)

Should you opt for "This is going to be hard," you will have to kill a level 45 Elemental, the Fam'retor Guardian. The reward for that one is a Trinket that is essentially the same as a rogue's Sprint.

Reason he only sells you stuff is b/c if you read the quest - it says he can TEACH you...he sells the recipe - he doesnt give you the item... so unless you alchemy - off to the AH to buy it

The quest is fine. Bro'kin has the recipe in "limited supply" - hence the vendor farming for it. So, if you do not want to get it there: By 1 oil or the recipe in AH from people who did ;-) Later on friendly alchemists (ie. in your guild) will make you one, even free, because it is so simple to make. For the same reason frost oil is usually fairly cheap.

When you go get your Frost Oil from AH, make sure to also pick up these items, you need them for quests later in the quest chain:

I am an Alchemist myself and tried to buy the Frost Oil recipe from the vendor in Altarec Mountains. But gave up when a high level Alliance player also wanted the recipe and started ganking me. Then I bought the recipe on AH for around 1g. The Frost Oil also sells for around 1g each on my server (Bloodfang, EU).

To get Nifty Stopwatch, you need to complete:

Gyro... What? requires Gyrochronatom.
Coolant Heads Prevail requires Frost Oil.
Study of the Elements: Rock by killing Lesser Rock Elemental for Small Stone Shard.
Study of the Elements: Rock by killing Rock Elemental for Large Stone Slab.
Study of the Elements: Rock by killing Greater Rock Elemental for Bracers of Rock Binding.
This unlocks This Is Going to Be Hard which leads to This Is Going to Be Hard which awards Nifty Stopwatch.

Keep in mind, the quest items drop off of specific mobs, so don't kill the other ones when you're doing each quest.

You can complete the other optional item turn in quests for Lucien Tosselwrench, but this is not necessary to complete the chain:

Liquid Stone requires Healing Potion and Lesser Invisibility Potion.
Stone Is Better than Cloth requires Patterned Bronze Bracers.
