For a rough idea through the couple of runs I did today, here's all the info I have:

Raw materials (per):

6 bronze bar
3 wool cloth
1 medium leather
1 heavy leather

Destroyed on use
16x Shredder Turbochargers required (not guaranteed to drop)

Run 1: 2 of 5
Run 2: 10 of 16
~~= 57% drop rate~~

*edit* got my 16 in 25 kills putting the drop rate at around 64% with my limited dataset

I went through 28 Shredder Autosalvage Units to get the 16 Shredder Turbochargers.

Out of 32 Shredder Autosalvage Unit I got:

x19 Shredder Turbocharger

x6 Bronze Tube

x6 Handful of Copper Bolts

Around 30 grey items selling for 4 and 58 copper each.

XT:9 dropped a Turbocharger every kill I did so possibly a higher rate on that one.

After I failed a few times on regular shredders, I started using the units on XT:9 only, and can pretty much confirm that he drops it all the time. I used 10 units on him and got 10 turbochargers. Not a single fail.

As of today (12/8/23) I added up all of the units I've used and everything everyone has reported here... out of 271 s used, people got 175 s ... making for a drop rate of about 65% if you round up.

Again, it seems the drop rate is about 65%

This means if you want to farm 16x 's for the quest, the average person will need to bring 25x s with them (more if you have bad RNG). If you have any left over when you are done just put them back on the AH to sell. It's a pain to get out and farm these things, it's better to bring to many mats with you than to not have enough and have to make multiple trips back and forth.

As someone else said rogues can pickpocket these off of the mobs in the area as well.

There were other people out there doing the same thing and there are several spawns but I watched shows and sat at /way Stonetalon Mountains 70.8, 41.8

Out of 25 Salvage Units I only got 13 Turbochargers (52%). Buying the missing chargers for 1.6g each on EU-Lava Lash.

You can use these on Shredders that other people have tagged.
You can use these on the Shredders in the split second that they die before the death clears your target of the Shredder to absolutely grief other players that are trying to farm them.
It's super degenerate and happened to me many times.
Imo Blizzard should change it to work like Skinning, as in you can only Salvage other players' tagged Shredders after they looted them.

It's baffling that there's not a single comment on where to find these shredders to use this on. I mean I guess any shredder works but what is the best place? Ugh.. suppose I'll just run around and see for myself

You can buy directly on the AH and turn them in to .

Or you can buy ~25 or 30 (or more) , go kill shredders and harvest them, and farm your turbochargers with a maybe somewhat better than 50% drop rate if you're lucky, and you'll get some grays to vendor, and some engineering bits and bobs to maybe sell on the AH (e.g. blasting powder), to defray the cost you paid for the autosalvage units.

Or you can level up Engineering, buy on the AH (or farm it in Deadmines), mine or buy all those mats to craft autosalvage units for yourself, and even start a cottage industry selling autosalvage units on the AH. (Or farm up the turbochargers to sell on the AH.)

Any way you slice it, getting your rune requires a hefty tribute tax to the Engineering profession. You can spend a huge amount of time, or you can spend a huge amount of gold, or you can spend a good chunk of each.

Since no aspect of this farming grind sounds fun to me, and I've already sunk my time and resources into different professions, I'll be grinding gold in different ways which are more fun to me personally, and buying the turbochargers directly on the AH.

1. Travel to 62.1, 39.1 in Ratchet

2. Speak to and select the dialogue option

3. Obtain 24 Fish Oil, 20 & 16 :

Fish Oil:
Can be farmed around 54.4, 61.3 in Hillsbrad Foothills from Nagas

:
Can be farmed around 60.1, 52.1 in Wetlands from Dark Iron Dwarfs

It will require you to either craft from Engineering or buy off Action House the .
Each unit is 1-time use only and has around 60% to provide a so you will need around 25 of them.
Travel to 66.5, 49.4 in Stonetalon Mountains, destroy Shredders in the area, and use on them to obtain .

Alternatively, you can buy all 3 quest items directly from the Auction House.

4. With all materials travel back to 62.1, 39.1 in Ratchet

5. Turn all materials to and pick up the follow-up quest

6. Travel to 76, 33 in Orgrimmar to Zel'mak or 79, 46 in Stormwind City to Master Wood

7. Complete quest & pick up the following one

8. Return to 62.1, 39.1 in Ratchet

9. Complete the quest and talk to to open a vendor

10. Buy & Learn the
