The ring well outways all the running around you have to do for this story arc, well worth it, plus all the xp from the Deadmines and the Stockades. But if your doing the stockades, make sure you have all the quest that go with it:
Bazill Thredd (Stormwind)
Crime and Punishment (Duskwood)
Quell the Uprising (Stormwind)
The Color of Blood (Stormwind)
The fury Runs Deep (Wetlands)
The Stockade Riots (At the Stockades itself)

I did this quest at level 20, got runs through VC, Stocks, and got a high level to help me kill the 2 30 ish guys at the end. Even though i spent about 5hrs and 5 or 6 deaths on this quest tree, it was majorly worth it when i got my hands on this ring :).

This chain is definitely one of the best quest chains in the entire game. The ring is good too.

I ran through this line (still need the duskwood and redridge parts), but want to put a little clarity here.

The quest tells you to speak to "King Varian Wrynn". A search here for that King does not find you anything.

When you get to the court, you are questioned marked by "Lady Katrana Prestor", which is the NPC you need to speak to for this quest. She tells you that the King is away on "...a diplomatic mission...".

She gives you the ring, 3750 XP, and 500 (non human) Rep points with Stormwind.

Very nice twink ring.

Keep in mind that if you're going to use it for your twink, you should start "The unsent letter" quest from Van Cleef immediately at lvl 16. The whole quest chain gives you 12515XP, mobs excluded.

For your other ring you should choose the Warsong Gulch PvP reward ring.

I disagree with the previous poster. I completed this quest series at level 24. I had help along the way, but that's how you maximize your quest rewards. Not only did I get a ring that is somewhat helpful to me as a caster (gnome/mage), but I got 3750 XP, which bumped me to level 25. All in all, I thought it was a very long, but rewarding quest chain.

I do wish that Thottbot would get the quests from "The Attack!" to "An Audience with the King" appended to the nine-step Defias/Van Cleef quest chain. They are all part of the same series.

To the person who talked to the GM:

The king has not moved location.

He is the Missing Diplomat, trapped on Altraz Island. His son is now king.

Since the son is now king, Lady Katrana speaks for him.

The Onyxia quest must have recently started if you can't turn the quest into Lady Katrana. Wait a few hours or an hour after Onyxia is defeated and you can turn it in easy.

Thats strange, I got the Seal of Wrynn: +3 Strenght, +4 Stamina, +3 Agility, +4 Intellect, +3 Spirit

And 3750 XP

I guess is matters what level you do it at?

The ring was updated after patch 1.9 and now is really really really good. Before the patch it really sucked, i found this out from one of my guild members. Anyways, this mission is a one time thing so don't screw up!

Went on the next day and it was fixed

along with westfall rewards for vancleef and being honoured in storwind i definitely think these quests are worth the effort ....

OK if you can't speak to the Lady then The reason why is that another quest is in progress. Still around for a bit and you get to see a really cool fight with the Lady next to the king turning into a Dragon oxiyia and all the guards around you doing the same think then they start killing everything. Just move out of the way let the guy who started the quest finish it and then wait 4-5 mins for them to respawn.

Why isn't Seal of Wrynn listed here as a reward for this quest? Also, the Seal of Wrynn page does not list it as the result of this quest.

I had to laugh when there appeared this line in the last step of the quest(not quoted,translated):

You should hurry up, it is a long way to the castle.

Good reward for a feet hurting but interesting quest!

To those of you that complained about the reward...WTF do you expect? This is a hella good ring for this early in the game. Plus to all stats? What more could you ask for. if you think the reward is no good for this early on in the game, just stop playing now ...

For you who think this quest line was so long you could kill your self. In the Onyxia key chain before the end you will either kill youself or cry for a week. This quest is so much better so doing this quest line was nearly like a good dream compared. I did it on my 21 pala. Took arond 2-3 hours after i got the Q. :)

Storyline: You kill bad guys, you work like the police (running around like crazy doing something that seem pointless for every1 else) your job is to stop something and then you get the ring from that little boy. I didnt bother reading anything...

She gave me the ring .. but i have to wait until she respawn after the fight of one of the Onixya chain quest .. so the only thing u need to complete the quest is to wait.. in the hall of the Keep.

the ring may be crap for higher levels, but it's TOTAL PWNAGE at level 19. Find a good friend to boost you through this quest line and you will have a mighty blue ring to use in lvl 19 WSG.

ok my friend got this at lvl 21. buut, according to this u have to be 31 to do the quest that starts the chain to be able to do this quest. can someone clear this up for me? is this the first quest?

I know a lot of people complain about how crappy this ring is. Honestly, for the level its pretty good considering the Alliance doesn't have access to the Seal of Sylvannas and I don't see many groups for SFK for the Silverlain Family Seal. If your a Hunter, Druid, Shaman, or Paladin you WILL use ALL of the stats on that ring. In my opinion that's crazy to get so many useful stats. Thing is every class benefits from this ring. Clothies get Sta, Int, and Spirit; melee like Warriors and Rogues get Str, Agl, and Sta.

Seriously, unless you wait a long time to do this chain, say post 30, yeah, this ring may not be as good but you'll be hard pressed to find a ring to replace it with as rings are not easy to come by unless you have lots of gold to spend.

heres how i did it.

i got the letter, did all the quests (with help with some guildies lvl 60mage)

then i got the quest called "the attack!" i got a lvl 28 pally 2 help me kill the 2 lvl 30 guys we did it. i did the 3 other quests then i got the ring and im happy :P

One more try to get this in the right place.

Can this be completed at a level <19? I have the letter and can get high level escort for the work, but I don't know whether the chain will continue or if it will stop because of my level at some point? Currently I am at level 14 and wanted to do it now so I wouldn't level THROUGH 19 before I got the ring.

OMG you all dont know the NPC HISTORY

Heres why theres a child as king.

The true king went with an escort to see lady proudmoore in dustwallow marsh but he get kidnapped and for the Human race the king is important so the king child took his place for now but on the supervision of Lady Preston and High Lord Bolvar
both control Stormwind i wont talk of detail because i dont wanna spoil...
but its why theres 3 guys standing there with 1 that is a child

the quest will contignu from off the start! when u get the letter of van-cleef. even if u get the letter on lvl 1. (if i could) you can still complete the whole chain. i competed it onces with a lvl 12

For the storyline - saving Stormwind from great retribution - the reward is terrible. Guess it's just xp.

Prestor is NOT his mom, and the child is NOT the "King" he is the Steward standing in until his father returns to Stormwind.

You turn the quest in to Prestor, there will not always be a question mark above her head, because starting the Windsor escort won't allow you to turn this in. Its just a matter of being there at the right time.

First of all, that lady is NOT the mom of the king. Second, the boy is filling in for the "real" king (his father), who has been kidnapped. Last, the guy in the Onyxia quest is NOT a Stormwind guard. He is a past hero of SW who has been imprisoned in Blackrock Spire and the players free as a lvl 60 quest.

The reason the name's are different is because the people outisde of the keep do not know the king has been kidnapped.

You can not talk to Lady Prestor wile the Onyxia Chain quest is going on. You would know it is starting when you see her yelling.

You will have to wait for her to respawn before contenuing with the quest.

It appears that you cannot return this quest after the sequence starts where she will turn into Onyxia (after she yells "Seize them"

someone help? It says I'm supposed to deliever the message to the king. yet there is no question mark above his head. and he has a different name than the quest. Is there another king hidden somewhere, or what?

Confirmed. I was trying to finish the quest when a lvl 60 guy triggered the Onyxia quest first.
After that point i had to wait until he finished his quest and until the mother of the king re-spwaned.
When she appeared again, she had the "?" over her head allowing me to finish my quest.

On the side, the quest ends with the king's mother not with him. Also the king's name in the quest log is wrong.

At level 25 xp was 3750.

Guys for gods sake, Lady Prestor isn't his mom, shes Onyxia. He isnt true king either. The real king is imprisoned in Alcaz Island guarded by Hydras and Naga in Dustwallow Marsh.
I have a question. Did the kids mom die at like the kids birth or did she die from like orcs?

Step 1. Ask somebody high level in Stormwind to help you and they probable will seeing as it is not far away.

Step 2. Kill them!

Step 3. Get awesome ring!

End exp at lvl 33 was 3750. Exp for steps before were from 250 to 650 each step.

The lady next to him is not his mother, she is a dragon. There is a quest where you go with some Stormwind guard guy who is the REAL king to confront her.

The ultimate reward for this quest chain is Seal of Wrynn, an incredible twinking or levelling ring. The entire chain rewards a ton of XP and has you visiting multiple instances and zones. Twinks would be best to commence this long chain as soon as is practicable, at level 16, and of course you'll need some buddies to carry you.

The Unsent Letter - a drop from Edwin VanCleef in The Deadmines, who might also drop Cape of the Brotherhood, Cruel Barb or Blackened Defias Armor if you are really lucky!

If you can't get her to speak to you, chances are that someone has done the Onyxia event and everything is on hold until its over. Then she'll start talking to you again.

A terrifically frustrating quest, not because of difficulty, but because of the ridiculously bad decision - made almost two decades ago by Blizzard's design team - to have Prestor "lock down" following completion of the Marshal Windsor quest for upwards of 1 hour (not to mention that she takes 5-10 minutes to even respawn after flying away).

This means that, if anyone has done the Onyxia questline recently (and if you are on a busy server, that questline is essentially being chain-completed), you need a window of close-to-60 minutes to pass with nobody doing that quest, just so you can hand THIS quest in.

Stupid. Incredibly, insultingly stupid.

I accepted this quest while The Great Masquerade was bugged (no Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in the keep), and turned it in. It isn't everyday one gets to receive an item from Onyxia without killing her. :D
