As of 8/12/07 (sunday as time goes by) you can put the on a big iron fishing pole and then sell it or give to your alt and keep passing it around. Please for god sakes dont tell blizzard about it. I'm tired of the soul bound BS.

there is a bug with the fish loot when the "looting this item will bind it to you" comes up dont shift click the bobber or it will cancel the looting box. in meaning you cant catch any of the 3 rare fish because of it or it cancels and will go away make sure you dont hold shift for the quick loot system!

I two have catch the fish twice in a roll as well! put it on two big iron fishing poles. though I cant remember if it was from the same fish pool. Might of been.

This item is part of the Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Competition. Which takes place every Sunday between 14:00 and 16:00 Server time.

These are the items that can be won if you are the first person to hand in 40 Speckled Tastyfish to Riggle Bassbait in Bootybay.
Arcanite Fishing Pole and Hook of the Master Angler.

Once someone has won the fishing competition, you can still hand in your remaining Speckled Tastyfish to Jang in Bootybay. (repeatable quest)

As of 3.3.3 this item is bugged, showing +2 to fishing skill instead of +5.

With the release of 3.3.3 you may see an erroneous message when applying High Test Eternium Fishing Line. If an enchantment already exists on the fishing pole you will be asked if you'd like to replace your current fishing pole enchantment with "+2 Fishing". This message is incorrect and applying the High Test Eternium Fishing Line enchantment will still give the proper +5 Fishing.

This is slated to be corrected in an upcoming patch.

I won this item by catching a rare fish during the SV fishing competition.

Used it on my big iron fishing pole and it says "Eternium Line Fishing +5"

I have caught the Blue striped Racer 2 weeks in a row so I would assume you can get this fish more than once too.

+100 is a lure, completely different than the +5 to pole "enchant"

I just won this today, both. I applied the Eternium Line to the Arcanite Rod just for kicks. Low and behold, there's an "enchant" line now on my Aracnite Rod that says Eternium Line....and below is the standards Equip +35 Fishing. Checking my skill list shows a +40 to my Fishing, and the line is permanent.

If you get the lucky queen fish in the competition more than once then what to do with the soulbound eternium line?
Well it can be applied to a second fishing rod and sold as the rod doesnt become soulbound!
As to what's a reasonable asking price for a Strong Rod (+5) with line (+5) I've still to see. Tried 3g it went in 2 minutes.
You have to advertise it as otherwise it looks like the standard rod.

Now I need to catch more magic fish (plus need a spare for the Comp Rod +35 if I ever get one) to test the market.
Sadly havent thought of what to do with the spare Nat boots as I caught two lucky racers last week.

Fishing off a basic 300 +5(rod) +5(line) +5(boots) +100(lure).

how did u get your skill to 455? i thought 452 was max. arcanite rod +35, +2 fishing to gloves, +5 boots, +5 hat, +5 line, 300 skill, +100 aquadynamic fish locator = 452 max fish skill. afaik, there is no +5 fishing enchant to gloves.

It's only +2 on gloves. You can check the enchanting section, but I am an enchanter and you can't get it =)

Yes, I'm a warrior.

I love to fish. I've got the Arcanite Rod, The lucky Fishing Hat, Nat Pagle's Shoes, the +2 Fishing Enchant, I even have an alt whose sole purpose is to make me Aquadynamic Fishing Lures. The only thing I lack is the High Test Eternium Fishing Line for my Arcanite Rod.

Ever since I got into fishing I've wanted to collect every little bit of gear that has anything to do with Fishing. The Terminator is on the list. I got Nat Pagle's Broken Reel last week with my guild as no casters wanted it! So really all I have left to collect is the fishing line and the Fish Terminator. I cannot wait until my collection is complete!

Does the rare fish go away after 1 hour of the comp and can u give it 2 fishbot then?

All the tournament fish (tastyfish and all of the rare fish) will show a timer towards the end of the tournament. It can be up to 4 hours, but even if you catch a fish at 3:45 it won't last a week and the turn-in NPCs disappear at 5:00PM game time. You must turn everything you catch in by 5 or it won't last until the next week.

The questions I have are about applying this line:

-Does the pole you apply to become soulbound even if it wasn't before? (Big Iron/Strong Poles)
-Can you apply it in the "Not to be Traded" box like an enchant to give it to someone else?

Edit: answers.
-You can apply it to poles in your inventory, if the pole wasn't soulbound before, it won't become soulbound when you add Eternium Line to it so you can add it to a Big Iron/Strong Pole and still trade it off when you outgrow it.

Ok, I did these stats AGAIN, please upvote this post so it doesn't get deleted another time. Since people didn't seem to understand how I got these numbers before, I will explain them.

When thottbot tracks data, it does not (and probably cannot) record conditions such as if a fishing bobber was inside a tastyfish spawn. Therefore, it isn't possible to get a "droprate" for the fish. So, the only way to get a feel for how often the rare fish drop is to compare its data to that of tastyfish, since tastyfish are the only other item caught exclusively under the exact same conditions as the rare fish. Fortunately, we know the number of tastyfish that have been caught, as well as how many rare fish.

This logic would be flawed if, for example, tastyfish could be caught in the competition long before rare fish were added, therefore making the tastyfish seem more common. Since, to my knowledge, the rare fish always have been there since the competition started, we can simply divide the number of rare fish caught by the number of tastyfish. Note that this does not take into account the other items that can be fished from tastyfish spawns (stranglekelp, oily blackmouths, ect), so a more accurate description would be for any number of tastyfish caught, an average of x% will be rare, where x is the following:

Keefer's Angelfish: 0.25% (1 in every 400 tastyfish)

Dezien Queenfish: 0.22% (1 in every 450 tastyfish)

Brownell's Blue Striped Racer : 0.18% (1 in every 550 tastyfish)

ANY rare fish: 0.65% (1 in every 150 tastyfish)

So if you were to catch 100 tastyfish every Sunday (which is about how many I usually get), you would have a 20% chance to get the Dezien Queenfish, or a 48% chance to get any rare fish. Personally, I've probably caught around 750-1000 tastyfish, and have found 3 x Dezien Queenfish. My chance of finding an angelfish (the one I want) with that many caught is somewhere around 90%. I shall keep on trying...

I don't see why Blizzard would make the droprates different for each individual fish, so we can probably assume that they share the same rate (The average is 0.22%). With this in mind, there is obviously a rather large margain of error for these rates. This is because there is very little data on thottbot for the fishing competition (only a total of 233 rare fish are recorded at this time). If you wish to help, run thottbot while you farm and upload your data.

if you didnt catch any fish.... go to elwynn forest, get the cheapest rod they got... the one thet is equivelant to a zebco 33... then go the closest river bank, and learn how to fish in WoW... it takes a minute but once you get the hang of it, you will be 375 b4 you know it

I have 375 fishing and Seth's Graphite fishing pole. That and the Fish attractor and I can fish Furious Crawdad without too much problem.

Do the Fishing tourney for fun and don't get too worked up over it. I did the Tourney once, and that was enough for me.

i got this 3 weeks ago along with my friend got the fishing hat within a minute of eachother. yesterdays tourney i won the first prize pole, unfortunately i already applied the eternium line to my +25 pole from hinterlands. It brought it up +5 fishing in my skills section.

Still want to clarify - can you apply this to someone elses soulbound pole through the non trade window?

The yellow post above is the closest. Thot, and nothing else either, has been designed to compare percentages of pools. So total % is not going to be correct.

how best to explain "random"..I flip a coin 3k times...1k it comes up 501 heads 499 tails, second 1k it comes up 501 tails and 499 heads..thats statisticly what happens most ofter..within a few one way or another..but hey the 3rd 1k it comes out 998 heads and 2 tails..while that isn't most probable..it IS random. It COULD happen..i.e. random.

The more important question is, can you enchant another person's fishing pole through a trade window? That could get you a couple of pesos.

The effect in-game is that you have a higher probability of not losing a fish in a high-level fishing area. Example: the Bay of Storms fishing area requires roughly 375 fishing just to cast out, and more like 425 to consistently catch without losing a fish on the line. I'm up to 342 with all of my gear, so I still have to use Aquadynamic Fish Attractors. Once I'm up to 352 with all three rares, the arc pole and the glove enchant, I can switch to baubles to fish the zone instead of having to make Fish Attractors.

I picked this up yesterday and popped it on my Arcanite pole. Now if I can just get the other two rares....

Though it is not schowed on pole itself but you can see on your skills tab that this line increases your fishing skill by 5. Once used it can not be moved to other pole, its like enchant.
Just today i won my 2nd contest and thus attaining maximal fishing level of 452 - Ashbringer, here i come ;)

My seven time participating contest, but still not won main prize, but got this one. It doesn't say "+5 fishing" and my pole still adds +20 as it was, at least it looks like this, but when i'm casting my fishing line now is not black as it was, but it blue one... some one said "it's stackable", so i'm wondering if i won't arcanite fishing rod, can i move that line to a new rod... hm.... :/

I have a +25 pole from Rev village quest and my guildie had a fishing line (Had is key word) and we were wondering if it was possible for him to use fishing line on my pole through trade window.

This cannot be used to enchant an item in the "Will not be traded" slot.

I tried to use one that my alt fished up to enchant the Arcanite Rod on my main and got the error "Can only be used on an item you own." So, I put it on a Big Iron Fishing Pole, which remained trade-able after enchantment.

Noticed an odd thing in Classic WotLK prepatch... my Arcanite Fishing Rod that had Eternium line on it now only has +2 Fishing, not the +5 It should have. Strange. Also confirmed that a pole with the Truesilver line still had +3. Filing a bug report on the PTR.
