the newest PTR updates, say that this tome will be buyable for 4 JC tokens and will learn you a random epic JC recipe.
you can also buy the epic gem recipe yourself for 5 JC each.

so after you bought the ones you really think are mandatory for you too know, then recipe collectors like me can start using this tome. in order too learn the recipe at a slightly quicker pace. although you have too get lucky with finding usefull gem cuts you didnt buy for 5 tokens.

The Tome of Burning Jewels can be purchased from the NPC Farah Facet in Stormwind for 4 Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens. Farah Facet is near Isabel Jones on the Test Realm.

Farah Facet also sells 51 new Epic Jewelcrafting Recipes for 5 Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens each.

For four Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens the Tome of Burning Jewels will teach you one random Epic Jewelcrafting Recipe that would otherwise cost five Illustrious Jewelcrafter's Tokens.

Question: Can you learn a recipe you already know by using this book?

Or is it confirmed to only teach a recipe you do not yet know?

INCORRECT. The best method would be to work out how many patterns you want to know immediately, deduce the number of tokens from what you have and the buy the TOMES first. Learn the tomes and if any of the recipes learnt are on your list you've saved yourself a token.

For example. I have 100 tokens and I have 12 designs on my list to get. That would cost 60 token (at 5 per design) So holding onto the 60 tokens I buy 10 tomes with my 40 remaining tokens and learn the designs. lets say that 4 of the ones I wanted to learn I learn through the tomes. So now I only need to learn the remaining 8 and I will have 20 tokens left over to spend on tomes. Therefore, I have saved 4 tokens and learn't one extra design for no extra cost by changing my purchasing strategy. Doesn't sound like alot but it will save you 4 days off JC dailies as well as having one extra recipe to craft with.

I have learned all 66 new epic gem designs through this book. As far as I can tell it will not double any previously learned designs. If you have 264 tokens, I suggest using this method to acquire your designs.

However if you do not wish to gather all of them, or want specific designs right now, I suggest you calculate the amount of tokens you need for the designs you wish to learn right now (5 * # of designs) and subtract that from the amount of tokens you have. (Total Tokens - (5* # of designs)) = X. X is the amount of tokens I suggest you spend on the random designs from the book, this way you have enough to get your designs, but have a chance at getting them cheaper, and a potential to get more designs.

You are not wrong, but you are not exactly right in all situations either. If a person has few tokens they could take a chance on Tomes. However, there is a better chance it will not work out for them than will, since the ratio of number of gem cuts to the number of tomes they are able to buy would not be in their favor. In that case it would be best to buy the cuts they know they need most. Then start messing with tomes to pick up other cuts that are less important to them.

If I did my math right, it takes 264 tokens to learn all Cata Epics from tomes, 330 to buy them individually.

I think that, even if you don't have a stockpile of tokens, it is still best to buy the most needed gems first. Losing four days of tokens for a cut you (or anyone else) don't need is NOT worth the RNG. As stated in a previous post by JGPenfield, the chances of obtaining the cuts you can use are low.

Just to make everything Clear, even though you are still able to buy the Tome after you learned all the designs you are not able to use it any further. When you try to use it after you learned everything, you will get a messege: "You have learned everything from that book" and the Tome is not refundable

I have all of the cuts that I need, but man, the past 6 tomes I've gotten had resilience recipes in them. And crap ones at that.

I'm starting to think that this Tome isn't 'random'. It's given me green elven peridot cuts for like the last 8 tomes or something, most of which are resilience ones which don't seem to sell. However, I will still continue to get the Tome because eventually it will run out of crap ones and HAVE to give me the good stuff right?

I suppose at least I can say in trade that I 'sepcialise in crap resil gems'...
