Lore:

Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest is the legendary staff that will be introduced in Patch 4.2: The Firelands, aka Molten Core 2: This Time, It's Personal. After Malygos' death, the Blue Dragonflight must decide on a new Aspect in order to take on the power. The two candidates are Arygos, Malygos' son and an advocate of isolation, and Kalecgos, former raid boss within Sunwell Plateau and advocate for reconciliation with the other races. No points for guessing who wins.

After slaying a Molten Lord within the Firelands, you are shown an obscured future where Azeroth burns, but whether it does or is saved hinges on a mortal (you). In the course of trying to find out why the future is being obscured, you meet a dragon named Tarecgosa in the Nexus, and the two of you discover the Twilight Flight within the Nexus. Realizing something is horribly wrong, she sends you to warn Kalecgos. Before Kalecgos can leave his post, however, your raid must stop Volcanus from completing a ritual that would ignite a branch of the Nordrassil and set the world ablaze as shown at the start of the questline. After defeating Volcanus and recovering the Branch of the Nordrassil from the Firelands, the two of you head to warn Tarecgosa.

However, several blue dragonflight rebels ambush the two of you, and prepares to destroy Kalecgos, but Tarecgosa sacrifices herself to save him. Kalecgos saves her life by binding her soul to you, but the binding is not permanent, and must be strengthened with materials from the Firelands. After the binding is complete, you then take Tarecgosa's form to attend the draconic council, and thus are directly responsible for the choosing of the new aspect. After Arygos realizes that he won't be Aspect, he reveals his allegiance to Deathwing and storms away. Upon defeating Ragnaros and procuring his heart, the staff is completed and imbued with power thanks to Kalecgos, and provides a permanent home for Tarecgosa, who will be your friend and companion up until the Emerald Dream expansion comes around and you abandon her for quest greens.

Who Gets The Staff
This is the only legendary DPS caster weapon currently attainable in the game. Dragonwrath's approximately a tier and a half above Firelands gear, and on the basis of the sheer amount of stats alone will be best in slot for about every caster. The proc, Wrath of Tarecgosa, and the abundance of hit will make it a DPS staff, as she will duplicate your harmful spells and allow you to take her form. The proc has no internal cooldown, so it is useful even for DoT classes like Warlocks and Shadow Priests.

Whoever in your guild is getting the staff is something your guild leader should probably work out before you start Firelands, but here are some ways to determine who gets it if he can't decide:

It will be good for ALL DPS casters on basis of stats alone, so saying "This is better for <Class>" isn't helpful.
This will take a guild effort to assemble the mats and get all of the quest shards. Remember, Firelands has only 7 bosses, so it will take a while to get all of the drops. If on average 140 Seething Cinders is gained each full clear of Firelands (on 10 man), it will take a good two months in order to complete step 2 of 3, on top of the time spent learning the bosses and getting your Eternal Embers. Expect spending four months to get all of the materials to craft your first one.
Therefore, this should go to your most loyal and trusted raiding DPS caster of any class, one who won't quit the game or drop the guild while gathering the materials or soon after.
If there are multiple loyal and trusted candidates, decide who gets the first in a mutually agreed and fair way. While I don't like /rolling, if they agree to the outcome, let that decide. Your guild can also have fun with this by having them write a five-paragraph essay or something goofy. Even in relatively friendly guilds, being inconsistent with this matter can cause a lot of headaches and drama. Avoid it by making it clear and transparent what your plans are at the start.
DO NOT choose to give it to a player who issues an ultimatum to give it first or he will leave the guild. Such childish behavior shouldn't be rewarded with a symbol of your guild's dedication.

Edit: Why the down rating? its accurate info. Blizzard said at Blizzcon that this is a CASTER DPS weapon.

This staff can (and most likely will) have an actualy intellect value of 609, since the caster's will probably fill it with +40 int gems, and then the +30 socket bonus, until epic gems come out (probably in 4.3) which, as of current datamined stuff, will increase the value of the intellect to 639 (50 int per red gem, 30 int socket bonus). That is a HUGE amount of intellect, considering the other staffs in the PTR have 460 intellect.

*Edit* The intellect on the staff has been increases, meaning my numbers are lower than actual value. Increased all of my numbers by +19 intellect to match the recent change.

Okay, quite simply healers? You guys got Val'anyr last expansion. We casters haven't had a legendary since the end of Vanilla, and we only had it for a couple months before the expansion came out, making it obsolete, and THEN it was removed from the game entirely! Give us mages our shot in the spotlight for a little while!

The most important part: How to get yours! Contains spoilers btw
~~As a pre-requisite, you must have cleared the first tier of raiding (nefa/al akir/cho gall). Probably normal mode will do.~~ This has been removed as a requirement. Instead, you must kill a Molten Lord inside Firelands (trash mob) to pick up the quest.

1. A Legendary Engagement - Pick up the quest from a capital.
2. A Wrinkle in Time - Talk to Anachronos
3. All-Seeing Eye - Collect 25xEternal Ember (drops from bosses) and 3x Sands of Time (vendor)
4. On a Wing and a Prayer - Go to Coldarra
5. Through a Glass, Darkly - RP inside Nexus
6. Actionable Intelligence - Go talk to Kalecgos
7. Delegation - Go to Firelands and pick up Branch of Nordrassil. This drops of a named "boss" named Volcanus the Firelord, youll need a full raid to do the encounter. To get to him, kill bosses in FL and collect stuff from them while doing it.
8. Nordrassil's Bough - Give the bough to Kalecgos in Coldarra now. At this point, you probably receive the first stage of this staff, Branch of Nordrassil. Or maybe in the previous quest, w/e.
9. Emergency Extraction - Go to Coldarra with Kalec, RP ensues, probably a cutscene
10. At One - Tarecgosa wipes and Kalecgos does some inserting action (HoN Empath anyone?)
11. Time Grows Short - Collect 1000xSeething Cinder from Firelands (aka Shadowfrost shards). You get around 50 from 25man bosses and around 20 from 10man.
12. Alignment - Some more blue dwagon RP in coldarra - cutscenes galore again probably. Kalecgos becomes the new aspect.At this point, you receive the second stage of this staff, Runestaff of Nordrassil
13. Heart of Flame - Go kill Ragnaros (normal/heroic, both work. You get extra debuff in the fight) and loot Heart of Flame. In addition, you must FIRST leech 250 Smouldering Essences from bosses in Firelands. On 25man, heroic bosses drop ~17-18 of them. Half of that on normal. Assuming less on 10man.
14. The Stuff of Legends - Dwagon RP in capital + you receive your staff! Huzzah! Also, whole guild receives the minipet available for purchase.

The iLvl is the same as heroic ragnaros, 397, after patch.

Ok... there seem to be a number of people QQing that the new legendary is for caster DPS. Lets recap folks.
In classic WoW the legendaries available were:
Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros - 2 Handed Melee DPS
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker - 1 handed agility DPS
and the various flavors of Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian; Mage, Warlock, Priest, and Druid.
This gave pretty much every spec a legendary designed for them.

Then in BC we were given:
Warglaive of Azzinoth and its offhand, Warglaive of Azzinoth - Melee DPS weapons
But hunters had kinda been left out since they aren't really supposed to melee.
So then we got: Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury - Hunter ranged weapon

Now yes there were a bunch of legendaries available during the last part of the Kael'thas Sunstrider encounter in The Eye. However those could not be removed from the raid instance, and thus they don't really count.

Then in WotLK along came:
Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings - Healer weapon
Shadowmourne - 2 Handed Melee DPS

Caster DPS has not had a legendary available to them since classic and even those are no longer attainable. Its our turn.

Where's your logic there? If you have smaller damage ticks and the same DPS as somebody with bigger damage ticks, then it's safe to assume you're getting more of them, correct? Now, if the proc is a base % chance on any spell damage hit with no ICD, then it doesn't matter whether you have more small DoT ticks or fewer big DoT ticks because you will also get more procs.

For example: Let's say the proc has a 10% chance on spell damage to duplicate that spell damage equally. Caster A has a dot ticking for 25000 damage every 5 seconds. Caster B has a dot ticking for 5000 damage every second. They both use the staff in a fight which is 1000 seconds long.

Caster A: 200 ticks, 20 procs.
220 x 25000 = 5,500,000

Caster B: 1000 ticks, 100 procs.
1100 x 5000 = 5,500,000

Hence the damage is equal and neither caster benefits more or less from the staff than the other in this case. Of course, the proc may re-cast the dot, or there may be proc effects from having the extra dots, and these will change the value of the staff procs for different classes.

(For after the change, the staff used to have different stats) This staff has been updated in a new build. It now has haste instead of crit, a larger amount of spellpower, int, hit and stamina. It also has the proc 'Wrath of Tarcegosa' listed and described above. Amusingly, it also has 948 weapon dps and a 3.3 speed, outdpsing all of the melee weapons as well.

Though, taohu is right - the proc from this is a bit... insane in PvP circumstances. Methinks it will either just not work on players or have a reduced effect, unless they change it. Most of the other legendaries had procs which were not rare but were not totally gamebreaking either. In contrast, this would have to be a fairly low proc chance to be balanced in PvE, but on the other hand, it would often mean a one hit kill in PvP when it went off. So, my guess is they will increase the proc chance, and rip people off a bit by just reducing the damage.

I've read on the site that it will "allow you to take the form of a member of the Blue Dragonflight" so I think there's a pretty good chance the use effect would turn you into a blue dragon/drake, probably allowing flight at 310% too.

Definitely something that would allow the staff to be kept well beyond Cataclysm.

The synergy between the proc and Ele shaman Mastery has been pointed out before- but here's a question:
Anyone think that it can proc off of a proc?
example:
Shaman casts Flame Shock
Shaman casts Lava Burst
Staff procs, smacking the mob for a solid 40k or so
Ele shammy mastery procs from the staff proc while casting a lightning bolt

So, he'd get 3 spellcasts from a single GCD.
Is this possible? way off?
Or, could it get even better and have procs from procs from procs from procs?

Dragonwrath is designed to be DOT-friendly. Simply put, it has a chance to copy each tick of a DOT spell. There is no internal cooldown, since we want it to be good for warlocks and Shadow priests.

Furthermore, the proc chance is adjusted favorably for pet specs that derive a significant portion of their DPS from pets.

Our goal is to tune Dragonwrath in such a way that you can give it to any caster without anticipating certain classes or specs getting a bigger benefit than others.

We will likely see the additional damage being represented by the spell Wrath of Tarecgosa. Just speculation, but I'm sure blizzard has thought about the possible exploits of talent-procs etc. Imagine a fire mage doing a single fireball, having it crit, shooting a free fireball which also crits, proccing a free, instant-pyroblast.

No. I'm positive Blizzard has thought this through. The additional fireball won't be a fireball at all. It will be Wrath of Tarecgosa, with inherited damage and possibly spell effects.

The real question is, can duplicate spells like Flame Orb or Combustion? The spells with insanely high spellpower coefficients, or high synergy with other spells (Combustion works wonders with a crit from pyroblast).

I cannot wait to try it out. Well, I can. I'm not going to spoil this on the PTR - I want to experience first hand, with my raid group.

I didn't read through all of the comments, but... I'm curious... Disc Priests... Smite and Holy Fire healing... yes, I know, it's a caster staff, no one bite my head off, just hear me out. :P

It does say "duplicating the harmful spell." So... if it were to proc off of Smite... I wonder if it does proc a Smite and if we'd get that back in healing... so those that are Shadow and off spec Disc, could, technically, use it for both. If it actually worked that way.

Ele Shaman Mastery, Elemental Overload + The Staffs Proc
Potentially 4 spells form 1 cast.... Lava Burst- Staff Proc- Mastery Proc- Staff Proc off of mastery spell

Several points people seem to be missing.
It would be advisable if before you post you check the details and changes that have been posted and altered here in the last 2 weeks.
1. There is an internal cooldown as of 4.3. Thank you sas148.
2. It now has haste, not crit.
3. All caster DPS can use staves and this was BiS for all of them when it was released.
4. PTR tests confirm the 'duplicate spell' is not a true copy but an extra amount of arcane damage equal to the damage of the original spell.
5. It has a chance to copy each tick of a DOT, it doesn't automatically copy every tick or only 1 tick.
6. It is just as good for casters that rely heavily on pets for DPS since the tuning is changed slightly for them.

For me the quest to get this staff happened after killing a mob in the Firelands. It was an automatic quest from Blizzard so there was nothing to loot to get the initial quest.

It is 25x (Braci Eterne) needed not Living Ember(Brace Vivente). Living Ember is boe material for crafts. Eternal Ember is bop that also drops off bosses but only if someone has the quest. Compared to, for example, Shadowmourne, its a cheap legendary. Yes, you need to buy 3 Sands of Time (one costs 3k, so 9k overall) but 25 Primordial Saronites were anywhere between 20-50k.

Drop rate on Eternal Ember seems decent, I think the three bosses we killed today dropped 2 Embers each.

Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest has been updated with an additional bonus, it now has an on-use effect that will transform the wielder into the visage of Tarecgosa, which is a flying mount modelled after Tarecgosa. In addition, the item level of the Staff has gone down from 404, to 397.

O wow i just love all the ppl posting all this garbage about "oh don't make posts saying what class this item belongs to" (< this obviously came from a healer btw) WHY NOT?

this is OBVIOUSLY a dps caster weapon only and i mean ONLY. NO healer should get this.

Just on the first page there's a green post voted up like +50 that says ppl shouldn't state what classes these belong to. Why do ppl vote such garbage up? What, are they all healers hoping deep down that they'll get this if they deny ppl the ability to say that this is a DPS caster only item?

It pisses me off when classes keep greedily wanting a weapon that simply isn't designed for them. This is dps caster only and healers can screw off.

Anyway, the staff has a lot of haste on it, if I just reforged hit into spirit, I'd be very happy to have the opportunity to heal with this. I also love the idea of the dragon form, (though I'll admit it looks rather... odd). >_>

To bad that you are missing out on this piece of text on the weapon:

Equip: When you deal damage, you have a chance to gain the Wrath of Tarecgosa, duplicating the harmful spell.

Its not ment to be a healer weapon, as healers have the ulduar mace as legendary item.
Since old naxx-40 has been removed there has not been a dps legendary for casters. (with the exception of the legendary during the Kaelthas encounter in Tempest keep.)

So I've been getting hammered in tells about how this staff works. I've been doing some testing this past day and how it works is pretty simple, but the procs from DD spells and DOTs are different. You cast a DD spell, let's take icelance for example, the staff procs and instantly casts another icelance . The damage is applied instantly(there is NO travel time on the proc), but you can see the graphic of a second icelance traveling towards your target. Here is an example of the proc:

14:40:28> Siiz's Ice Lance hits Training Dummy for 1 Frost.(10466 Overkill) (Critical)

Now, when you cast a spell and it hits, if the staff procs and the second spell is cast, the second can crit even though your first one didn't. For example:

In return, the proc can also hit if you crit your initial spell. Example:

How it works with DOTS

Instead of coping the spell like it does with DD spells or instant, DOTs are different. If the staff procs on a DOT tick, instead of casting the same "spell", it will cast Wrath of Tarecgosa, and match the damage of the DOT. For example:

Right now it seems it will always match the damage of the DOT tick, unlike DD spells where the proc can crit or hit.

I tested the staff when I had 2 FoF charges up. I cast icelance and consumed my first charge of FoF, the staff procced and instantly cast another icelance and consumed the second FoF charge. Here is the combat log for this event:

15:46:50> Siiz casts Ice Lance at Training Dummy.

I'm still working on the proc rate of the staff, and to see if the proc rate could be higher for frost given that it's a pet spec. I'm also still testing how it works with DOTS.

Flame orb/FFO don't seem to be benefiting from the staff, probably because I don't think it's considered a direct damage or DOT spell.

If your "copied" fireball crits it will trigger ignite, and ignite also benefits from the staff proc.

PLEASE realize this is a huge work in progress and many things I have not tested yet. I am trying my best to test a lot of things so it will take some time. Be patient =)

Some new things that I've noticed is that if your arcane blast gets copied, it applies a stack of ab to you (ie: you can go from 1 to 3 stacks of AB).

If a target is hit by your initial blastwave cast and procs, it will trigger another blastwave + if you're talented into the flamestrike talent, it will spawn another one as well.

Flamestrike is considered a DOT and procs Wrath of Tarecgosa.

That brings up a question – how does it work with channeled spells?

Also, is there any visual when a dot procs it?

Channeled spells are no different than DD spells, it will add an extra missile if it procs. It is actually quite funny when you get multiple procs. Yes there is also a visual effect (you will see an extra missile). For DOTs the animation is the same as an Arcane Blast hitting a target.

Congratulations on forming the staff, Siiz! I'm about 2 weeks away myself :)

I did have one question though. If it were to proc from an Arcane Blast it would deal Arcane Damage. Would this Arcane Damage be affected by Arcane Specialization, or more importantly Mana Adept and/or Arcane Power? VPLC from Ragaros deals Nature damage and scales with the two prior.

The proc from arcane blast is simply the same spell you just cast. It is affected by everything (talents, procs, power gains, etc)

I logged 30 minutes of each spec for people to look at, I know this is not a big sample size, but to be honest the tests I do related to numbers won't be accurate enough. Here is the log to dig through.

This staff will be best in slot until 5.0, except if 4.3 item ilevel is higher than expected for heroic Deathwing.
The short log shows a proc around 10% of the time for all three specs, which is a flat 10% dps increase due to how it is working.

I guess this is the way they want legendaries to be, a 10% upgrade.
Some history about power of legendaries:

- for Sulfuras, i can't really tell. But mace spec gave rage at the time and sword spec was just a 6% proc and could proc on proc (had 5 consecutive proc once !) which in the end was just insanely better, also weaponskill was supreme king (reduced glancing damage) and the Obsidian edged sword was superior to it in a pure pve situation. its ratio "power/difficulty to obtain" was bad.

- TF was a 100% upgrade for a dw warrior (yes there was some :P), a 30% for a rogue, and a 10-15% upgrade even in the end of wow 1.0 but it was extremly hard to obtain on a specific player. The intent was a tanking weapon but it was usualy used for DPS class. its ratio "power/difficulty to obtain" was just insane both ways.

- Atiesh, honestly i cannot tell, i only saw it on tbc beta, it seemed rather weak to only buff 2% crit for the group (or something alike). its ratio "power/difficulty to obtain" was very bad.

- Azzinoth, here (for rogue) a 2% upgrade on oh only, a 8% upgrade with mh only and a 20-25% with both of them. its ratio "power/difficulty to obtain" was not really that good.

- Thori'dal was as i recall from logs on wws a 15-20% upgrade, hunters could break the 3k bar on bruta with it but being on the end boss of the final tbc raid, it was prolly as common as atiesh. its ratio "power/difficulty to obtain" was bad.

- Val'anyr was extremly variable due to the nature of its proc, it was around 2-4% (disc priest) to 30-40% for an holy paladin (if i'm not mistaken, not sure here). It was Bis for 3 tiers 3.1 3.2 .3.3 which is incredible, you could obtain it before finishing the tier in HM. Its ratio "power/difficulty to obtain" was very good.

- Shadowmourne was around 5-10% upgrade but was obtainable at the end of the tier in HM and there was no raid tier after. The ratio "power/difficulty to obtain" was however probably the highest because you could see it everywhere.

- Dragonwrath is around 10% upgrade but unlike shadowmourne who had a static str proc, which would have been supplanted if it was on second raid tier (258 ilvl instead of 284) here it is a real 10%. I can't really talk about the ratio yet but it doesn't sound extremly hard.

I've got a question about the completion of this questline (apologies if the question's already been answered).

Currently on my realm there is a huge ghost version of Tarecgosa floating over Stormwind. She's like.... the size of the Cathedral District. I'm not sure if someone just got the staff, but I was just wondering why the dragon's there lol.

Any answers to sate my curiosity?

The way acquisition of this item has been handled between 10 and 25 man has been ridiculous. Some 25 man guilds have 3 staves. All 10 man guilds are still waiting to finish there first staff. the devs really should have thought more about parity for the staff.

Now, Obviously, they didn't want 25 man guilds to have to change to 10m to maximize staves, but they should have followed through with that and made it so 10 man guilds dont have to change to 25m if they wanted a staff before 4.3.

Those of you pursing the acquisition of Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest; please note, while on Phase 3 of the quest line requiring you to use Runestaff of Nordrassil to collect 250 Smouldering Essence (Siphon Essence), you will not be able to acquire any from Ragnaros. There isn't a body to harvest the essence from on normal difficulty and even on heroic, where there is a body after defeating him, it won't allow you to do so.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##sas148##DELIM##

Completed this today, some helpful tips:

After the nerf, Ragnaros does not pose much of a threat (in normal, that is). You can easily survive all through P2 staying outside the group, with no healer CD's needed. I hugged for the Sulfuras Smash during Molten Seed, though. You should be able to as well.

There is no timer on the debuff you receive, but before you explode, a hellfire-like effect will start about 5 seconds prior to the explosion. This should warn you to move away.
After Ragnaros died, I did not receive the fire resistance buff. However, looting the Heart was no problem. Ask your healers to spam heal you. There is no cast bar - looting the item is instant.
Once you are done, report back in Orgrimmar/Stormwind. Save yourself the flight to Coldarra... which I sadly didn't.

A fun little fact about the staff is that the mount works even in areas which don't allow the use of flying mounts. Battlegrounds, dungeons... Pretty fun to see a big, shiny drake in those places.

So one thing I'm curious about, with the Ulduar legendary, they increased its stats to make it comparable to an item coming from 25m normal mode raids in ToC, would they possibly do the same thing with this come 4.3?

Apparently, the chance for the proc to occur is being reduced in 4.3.

This makes sense seeing as the current proc rate had this staff remaining best in slot until the amount of spellpower / int / secondary stats on a weapon amounted to more DPS potential than the proc, which probably wouldn't have occured until midway through the next expansion at its current rate.

ed: According to PTR testers, the current nerf is around 2-3% (proc is average 12% instead of 15%)

Silly downraters, keep being upset over the nerfs to casters. You had your two tiers of meter dominance.

1) If you use Ethereal portal while in Dragon form, you will create the largest possible ethereal gate in wow.
2) If you teleport as a Warlock while in "moving" in Dragon form, you will create a super gigantic poop and green ripple to follow.

What's in it for me?

Just in case no one's mentioned this, should you happen to suffer the misfortune of getting knocked off of the side of the platform by a stray lava wave shortly before the fight ends, and manage to keep yourself alive until the end of the fight, you can still loot the heart. The heart has spawned at that point, and you just need to get rezzed up and you can go and grab it. You don't have the reduced damage buff at that point, so its probably a one-way trip into the lava, but it works.

To test if the Staff can duplicate an Overload, I tried alternating Lava Burst and Chain Lightning on a test dummy for 15 minutes or so. (The log can be found here on World of Logs). Since Elemental Overload results in a damage reduction on a spell, it is possible to spot where a proc originated from. To keep this simple I have only looked at the Lava Burst damage, while using the Chain Lightning to distinguish the separate casts. For example:

The last three are pretty similar, and as far as I can tell, they all have a separate crit chance. Theoretically it could be possible to obtain a quadruple lava burst, but I can't say I have noticed any. It may well be impossible because it means some lucky burst results in one shotting a player. A bit of further testing reveals that flame shock will result in all three of these critting. Some pretty nasty burst there, particularly if its an instant cast!

Enhancement shamans have never had a legendary period...dont even try to say Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros because such a hammer would always go to the warrior or the paladin, never the shaman...

How bout a nice one handed axe Blizzard? Better yet, a set of legendary fist weapons? That would be nice....show us some love...

Spoken like someone who didn't actually play durring Vanilla. You should look up Unbreakable some day. Sulfuras was most deffinitely the ret Palladin and Enhancement Shaman legendary in vanilla WoW.

During Vanilla, Enhancement used 2h weapons and were Itemized for Str (same 1 for 2 Str-to-AP ratios as pallies and warriors).
Sulfuras was BiS for Enhancement, and every raid group that was serious about raiding had at least 1 (sometimes 2 for 40man's) enhance shaman that every melee fought to be in the group with because of Windfury totem.

Before 2.0 gave Arms Blood Frenzy, 1h DW Fury was the only competitive PvE spec for raiding DPS warriors back then

As result, Sulfuras (or the eye in any case) was pretty much auto-looted to Paladins and Shaman back then.

Edit: Pallies were Alliance only and shammies were Horde only, prior to TBC, so again there was no cross-class competition for it. Horde Warriors got a HoR only when none of the Shaman wanted it.

this is what I've found out through testing with this staff:

1. If it procs on a DoT it will cast a new, instant spell for Arcane damage called Wrath of Tarecgosa. This deals damage exactly equal to that of the tick of the DoT that that it copied. From my experience, this has never crit.
2. If it procs on a hard casted spell (ie, Fireball, Lightning Bolt, etc) or any spell with travel time (Hot Steak! and instant lava burst) it will send a copy of the spell at the same target. This copy can crit or miss like any other spell.

Will update as I get more accurate info.

As of 4.3, doing /mountspecial while transformed into Tarecgosa's Visage now has a roar sound (different than that of a normal drake).

Just completed this yesterday. Been working on this staff since the first day of 4.2. I am in a 10 man guild that doesn't do much heroic content. By the time we worked on heroic encounters, Dragon Soul came out and it was decided that we should just bulldoze FL normal until I get the staff. So for 10m normal guilds... it took that long. Maybe I could have been a week or two earlier but whatever I am now an owner of this staff.

For the final encounter, a tip I will give to warlocks is to set a portal on the edge of the pool of lava and have your healers spam heal you until you loot the heart in the middle (I didn't get the buff for fire resistance). After that just portal in and you are done. For Alliance turn in the quest at Cathedral Square. I left my raid group to do the turn in as I read somewhere that there's a bug for raid group completion. The whole battle with Ragnaros was not difficult. Set range 8 and stand by yourself. You will know when you will explode so be sure to move away from people. The stacking parts are the "scary" parts of the whole fight, but with the timing of the debuff, you should be fine. Congrats to those who own the staff, but also congrats and big props to the raiders that helped made it happen. Can't thank some of my raiders enough for continually do Firelands even though there was Dragon Soul and no benefits to them in terms of gear in FL.

I want to point out that this staff is an extreme pain to obtain in a 10-man raid simply due to the time it takes to complete a single staff. The construction mats drop in much lower quantities in 10-man. The notion that, "10-man raids will likely make this staff available to hybrids and healers faster then 25-mans will, simply because there will be less DPS casters that go first..." is simply not true due to the time it takes to complete one. Our 10-man runs with two casters that benefit greatly from this staff. Translation - nobody else in the raid will ever see this staff for another spec. Why? Well, we're still working on completing the first staff for our warlock, and it's 2/6/2012 as of me making this post. We've been farming Madness for five weeks now, and we're working on heroics, and we're STILL going back into Firelands once a week to try and complete this damn staff. It's a joke, especially compared to the legendary rogue daggers. Our rogue already has her tier 2 legedary daggers and is working towards completing her final step. Meanwhile, our warlock still needs another 120 Smouldering Essence and the debuff Rag kill. For reference, we were farming Firelands for a long time before Dragon Soul even came out. We've put our time in.

If you're in a 25-man raid, your chances of obtaining this staff are greater simply due to the fact that the staff's construction mats drop in higher quantities (double the rate). This means that 25-mans have to schedule and gather together fewer times. Bottom line is that more staffs are distributed in 25-mans, and if your performance and attentance is high, you'll have a better shot at this staff, regardless of whether or not you're a hybrid.

If you ever want to look like you have the staff u really should just get yourself a Potion of Illusion and drink it right next to someone that has the mount active. The potion will then make u look like the dragon for its full duration. WARNING though: You may have been transformed into the dragon, but you can't fly, so the only thing you can do is walk around.

This staff really should be BoA. It's really hard to do the quests today if you haven't a core to rush FL every week. In my realm isn't easy to pug a FL raid, everyone already have everything from there. And compared to another cataclysm legendary weapon as rogue's, Terecgosa's it's much more difficult and takes much longer to make it.

I've noticed that as a shadow priest, if you can multi-dot several targets in a battleground, and then get out of combat in time to mount up using the 'on use' effect, my Shadowy Apparitions will also be full sized Tarecgosa images.

This will be fun to get and is very strong(as you can imagine). It's amazing for Ele since you can double proc off Lava Burst AND Overload. So with some luck this is superrrrrrr good for Ele over the other casters. Fire Mages get more consistent use out of it tho since they don't need the double luck that Ele needs. Locks, well lets just hope that Blizzard ups it so the Mages/Ele can get theres and then we can.
