No need to kill the serpent. It goes back to full health and completes the quest. You can just walk away.

In case you don't notice them like I didn't for a long time, you need to kill the guys channeling into Arikara's shield before you can do any real damage.

You cant kill Arikara but yet the quest is completed. Is this quest bugged or is it supposed to be like this?

You just have to kill the grimtotem spirit around it
And then you could hit Arikara

It took me awhile to figure out about the guys on the side healing the serpent as well, but after catching on I killed them as they appeared. Problem was, after killing the serpent it instantly came back to life at full health. There was a message that said Arikara's Revenge - so I whittled him down again, and he re-spawned again at full health. At this point I walked away as I was tired of fighting, out of mana and potions, and low on health. I did receive credit for the quest, but I think it is still bugged as of this writing.

It's definitely bugged, but I managed to get it to work - sort of - after a few attempts. After I "beat" Arikara and it was restored to full health, I ran across the bridge to reset it. I ran back, used the Shu'halo Artifacts to start it over, and finally got the Twilight Hammer script to play just as the four spirits reappeared and healed it again:

Arikara yells: Stop! You have bested my wind serpent.
Arikara yells: I have been taken prisoner by the Twilight's Hammer.
Arikara yells: I'm not certain where. Start with their western base overlooking Highperch.

(on a side note: I got Thousand Needles Quests while just going for the end quest by doing all it's pre-requisit quests and some side quests that were in the same area. (Also did a chain started with but afaik this is not needed.))

pretty much the tauren you have with you will keep the serpent busy he won't die just wander around the perimeter and kill the guys with the lightning bolts keeping it alive. easy squeasy peasy

[I am familiar with these artifacts. I believe that they were brought here by Magatha Grimtotem herself. But she's not amongst the Grimtotem on Darkcloud Pinnacle. She disappeared right after she arrived, and no one knows where she is now.

Maybe we can find out.

Take the rattle, the writ, and the drum out to Arikara's Needle. If my guess is correct, the wind serpent will appear again. You'll have to defeat it to gain knowledge of where Magatha is hiding.]
